The Night Itself

Located in the depths of the weyr (conspicuously close to the kitchen), a wooden sign hangs above an open wooden door, proclaiming proudly in faded gold lettering 'The Broken Caravan'.

Basically, this place is the weyrs own personal trader. A nomad, renegade, wanderer, whatever you might want to call him, lives happily behind that door and will eagerly barter his wares for a few marks, or in exchange for a service or two.

User Image

"Hey, I'm open ya'know." Comes an accented voice, and a tanned redhead leans around th door. "It's open, ain't it?" He waves a hand at the door. "Name's Imirin, this 'ere is my broken caravan. Spend a few marks, huh? There's gonna be a new shipment in soon, so new things'll be comin and goin'."

User Image

Now, if you wanna buy somethin' there're a few rules you gotta follow." He states matter-of-factly, and points to a hide on the wall where a set of requirements follows, "You don't do 'em, then I ain't sellin'."

The Hide

1. Don't be stealin'
2. Nothin' leaves the weyr. Things are to be used only around 'ere, nowhere else.
3. Tell me what you like, show me the money, and I'll hand it over.
4. Tell me how much whatever your total is. I don't have the time to add it.
5. I'm willin' to trade for stuff you make, show me what you got.
6. Talk to me! shells, I ain't just going to pass on my hard-worked wares!
7. Listen to me! I ain't repeatin' much.

(Please post in formal RP as your character asking for whatever it is. Send the trade as well as the page number of the order. Only after I confirm the trade can you save the images. NO direct linking, I don't have the bandwidth.)

Example:
T'bell stuck his head inside Imirins' door, "Hey 'murrin, mind if I take a bowl and cup off your hands? Both with the green dragon design. That'll be 200g, right?"

"First off, we've got a selection of bowls and cutlery for your enjoyment." He gestures to a shelf, "Mostly for dragonriders, I s'pose, but just plain weyr folk are welcome to it as well. No touchin' unless you're buyin, remember! Each one of these is marked at 150g."

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

On a high shelf sits a row of wooden bowls. Each one has different colours of dragons flying around the sides. First green, then blue, followed by brown, bronze and gold.

User Image

"And here we have special mugs of klah, personalized with a dragon colour of your choice. Or blank, if you like 'em that way. There are 50g each."

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

On the shelf beside there are a row of heavy klah mugs, just a bit larger and deeper than found in the kitchen. These twoo are painted in the dragon colours, but a blank one exists for those who can't decide which dragon is their favourite.

User Image

"Over here is a bowl I worked especially hard on. Got rocks from all the weyrs too, in my travels." He gives you a smirk, "Only made ten though, and they're expensive at 500g, so you'd better grab one now."

User Image

Alone on a shelf sits another wodden bowl. This one has burned designs of falling leaves decorating the sides. It's filled with clear water too, and inside are many different rocks, smoothed down by a secret process. Apparently they're from every Pernese weyr. Must be good luck.

User Image

"I've got a collection of glowbaskets too, a bit different-lookin' than the normal ones. They're classy, I think. Since I put a bit'a work into 'em they go for 75g."

User ImageUser ImageUser Image

Three identical glowbaskets sit in a row on the next shelf. Apparently fresh glows are included too, because they're shining brightly. They're made from metal burnished black, and a glass globe protected by a metal cage of sorts holds the glows.

User Image

"Just finished these ones up, a collection of masks for all your needs. Decoratin' or wearin' or whatever. All handpainted by yours truely. These first four feature the standard dragon colours, all flamin' thread 'cept for the queen one, cause every deadglow knows queens don't breath fire. These four go for 50g a piece."

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

"Next we've got a few I've painted in the spirit of this here Weyr, in Rias' colours. They go for 40g a piece, I think."

User ImageUser ImageUser Image

"Lastly, this shelf holds masks inspired by a bunch'a different things. First we got a bunch'a fire burnin' thread, then one painted with colours from the sea. Beside it, a match I think, is inspired by the mass'a jungle out here in the South, and then the good 'ole red star. Next is, in order, a feline mask, klah, and everyone's favourite, a bubbly. All these ones 'ere go for 70g."

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

"Now, last but definatly not least, I present you with a special mask made for the recent occasion of the queen's risin'. This here mask shows both Airieth and Tallith twined in flight, brown and gold, and is a sign of not only a new weyrwoman, but of Rias Weyr's strength and endurance. This is leaving my hands for 100g. A bit pricey, I know, but for all it stands for I think it has its worth."

User Image

All the described masks sit carefully on their shelves. Hand carved from sun-bleached driftwood gathered on the beach, these are a sure sign of talent and hard work.

"Right 'ere," He says, motioning to a set of hooks on the wall, "We've got a set of rider knots. This weyrs' colours are silver 'n blue, right? Well we got 'em. Also with ribbons for the dragon colours. These are only for dragonriders though. Might make s'more down the line. They're ranked as wingriders too, for now, but you can still buy 'em if you're a wingsecond or somethin'. They go pretty cheap for 30g."

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

True to his word the hooks are decorated with ranking knots of wingriders, made from high-quality woven and dyed cord to match the weyrs' colours. The silver, gold, and bronze material even shimmers.

User Image

"That? Oh...just a bunch of food. I s'pose you can buy it if you like. Got meatrolls, cheese, and bubbly pies really. The meatrolls are priced depending on what you get with 'em."

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

"A single goes for 10g. A group is 25g. A group on a platter goes for 40g. And a whole load of 'em on a platter goes for 60g."

User ImageUser Image

"A wedge of cheese goes for 40g. Rias' got the best cheese of all I've tasted. A bubbly goes for a bit more at 70g."

User Image

"A platter just by it's lonesome? Lets say an easy 15g."

User ImageUser Image

"Now you'll be wantin' a meal, and they'll go for a little more. Some cheese and a pair of rolls will cost you 85g. If you're wanting three rolls and a bubbly for dessert you'll be handin' over 100g."

User Image

"That's all I got to offer y'all right now then, so pick somethin' or come back a lil later. I change stuff around, add stuff, all that sort of thing pretty regularly. Never know what might be in 'ere."

T'bell poked his head into the trader's room and looked around for the redhead. "Hey, Imirin." He gave him a friendly smile and stepped into the room, examining the wares. "Mind of I take a bowl and cup?" He smiled over his shoulder at him, "Both with a green dragon of course. Liliath wouldn't have it any other way." He picked through a small pouch and pulled out the marks required. "That'll be 200g, right?"

Imirin looked up from a piece he was working on. "Green bowl and cup, eh? Easily done." He took the requested items off the shelf and handed them over in trade for the marks. "Have a nice day, dragonrider."

(Had to stop myself from buying one of everything XD)
-----
Pausing briefly from her return trip from the kitchens, a meat roll half hanging from her mouth, Farin noticed a rather peculiar sign hanging from one of the doorways she had been previously sure was nothing more then a broom closet. She pulled down the meat pie, and chewed the rather bitter contents in thought, and with a careful slink of her eyes, pushed open the wooden door, and lightly shut it behind her.
Her eyes blinked in quite a show of surprise, as it seemed a gift shop had happened to open right in the very weyr. She swallowed the piece of pie, and gently nodded her head in the direction of the shop owner, any of her usual sternness faded in lure of some shopping. As it may, Farin could not deny herself the insatiable urge to shop; even though she herself had very few person belongings.
The rider carefully went over the various items within the shop, her nose slightly crinkled from a prolonged stuffiness of being in the bowels of the weyr too long. There was a clever little mug with a tiny green dragon painted upon it which she quickly, but carefully, lifted, a grin sliding across her face. "Ah, I could use that."
Don't spend too much, Love. Warned Moth gently.
'Ssh, ssh. There's a mug with you on it.' She lifted it up, and placed it in the crook of her arm, and continued down the rows of items.
She noted a small selection of bowls with little dragons upon them, but shutting her eyes she tried quite hard to pass them by. Unfortunately, this did not happen, and she carefully placed a green dragon bowl on her arm, and lay the cup inside.
Beside the bowls was a rather peculiar looking rock bowl, which looked a lot like a fountain. This, she adored. She decided it would be better to not carry it around the shop though, rather then risk spilling. There seemed to be ten, and with not too many people in the shop, she doubted it would go anywhere.
She turned past some rolls and food, not all too hungry at the moment, but before reaching the counter she gently picked up a green's ribbon, having decided hers was getting much too worn out as it was.
Farin walked to the counter, placing the bowl, cup, and ribbon in a neat row. "Good-Day, Sir." The woman spoke, her head tilting to the side. "I'd like to purchase these please; and one of those bowls with the rocks in them."
Her dark hand slipped carefully against her side, fishing out a bag of marks. "How much would that be?" Her head tilted, looking the young man over briefly, and wondering if she'd ever seen the man before. How unusual.

Nico strolled around the outside of the store once as if she had eyes that could see through walls. The little pocket that she used to keep her change was growing lighter every day. She sighed giving into her temptations and entering the shop gazing around at all its wonders.

"Err," The Bluerider mumbled petting the edge of a beautiful bowl full of stones then was distracted by the knots a blue one glittering in the slight sunlight. "Ahh...Mr. IÂ’ll take that bowl...the one full of the stones and a blue knot...Ooo and that other bowl with the blue dragons." She added then digging around the pocket. "500 plus erm 150 is 650...oh yes and the knot makes 680 gold right?"

Imirin smiled from his desk where he was painting another bowl. "680 it is, miss. You're welcome to 'em as soon as I get yer cash." He gave her a mischievious smile and held out his hand.

"Well well, seems I have a few fans of my latest bowl, hm? Your total's 730." He stood from his seat and carefully lifted one of the rock-filled bowls from the shelf. "Good taste, miss. Not many of these eft. I coulnd't stand to make a bunch of 'em. Takes a while to burn in the design." He grinned, "Didn't have many rocks either."

A smile slipped across Farin's face, her head nodding forward as the shopkeeper fiddled about behind the counter, returning with the lovely bowl of rocks and water. "That sounds very reasonable." She plucked her fingers about the sack of marks, laying an assorted amount of types upon the table for payment. "It is a very pretty design. I'm afraid I could not make ten if I tried, regardless of how many rocks I had."
She took the bowl off the counter, carefully arranging her items about her, latching the mug on a loop of her belt. "Water is very relaxing, so I am sure it will be a fine addition to my otherwise slummish weyr."
She shook her head gently, her blonde hair still in a state of rabid tangles. "I do not remember a shop being here." She spoke, her voice a little taunt. "Will this be here long? Or are you just a traveler?" It would be nice for a permanent place to purchase goods to remain in the Weyr.

"Been here for a good while." He smiled mysteriously and scooped the marks into his hand. "I suppose you just never noticed. I only put the sign up today. Fitting I think. I was part of a caravan a while ago, 'bout halfway through the sickness. My wagon broke down and the train didn't feel like stayin' around a dangerous place like this for too long, not with everyone droppin' like thread."

He gave a nonchalent shrug and plopped himself back down on his stool. "That explains the name of the shop, I s'pose. I figured on stayin' here until I fixed the wagon, but the weyr needed some'a my supplies and I just haven't left yet. Been makin' stuff though, earnin' marks." He gestured around the store. "Not used to havin' stone over my head, but it's growin' on me. I like the food. Guess I'll be stayin' around until I rebuild my wagon."

Farin nodded, a bit amused by the seller's manner. She would have to make note to come back on some later occasion and see what other wares he may eventually stock. "Ah, I see." she furrowed her brow. "I'm afraid I do have a bad memory, so I probably have missed you around. But these have been hard times. It's good to see someone willing to hang around; I hope you do not repair your wagon all too fast. I'm afraid we've lost a good deal of our craftsmen and drudges, and it's miserable finding much of anything, let alone items that we can actually use." She shook her head, adjusting the position in which she held the bowl filled with the water and stone.
With a simple head nod of formality, she began to bid her farewell. "Well, I'm afraid I would hate to spill this water on your shop floor, so I shall go take these back to my weyr presently." She took a moment to let her eyes look about the other items in the shop. "I suppose I shall come back then, if you will be opened in the future. Those glows do look fetching."
And with that Farin bid her farewell, and scuttled herself out of the shop to deposit the items in her weyr, her mind once again settling on happier thoughts of tapestry designing, and some new bedding for Moth.

"I'll be around alright. It's a good market with all the craftsmen and drudges gone, like you said." He gave her a wink and flipped the red tail of his hair over his shoulder as she left, bending back to his desk to concentrate on painting another bowl.

R'dard was on his way to the kitchens. Or he was trying to be, anyway... he didn't know Rias very well yet, and truth be told he was quite lost when he stumbled across the strange little trader. "What be all this?" he murmured, poking his head around the doorframe. "You be a-sellin' stuff here? Not a-movin' wagon, huh?"

He looked through the wares curiously, though. He always did like it when trader caravans came through, and one that was around all the time could be especially interesting.

Those have green dragons on them! Get them for me! Becketth demanded, suddenly.

For YOU? Since when do you be a-drinkin' out of human dishes? Still, R'dard was amused. "Hoi, trader... I'll be a-buyin' some of your wares, I guess." He quickly picked out a green dragon bowl, then a blue and brown as well.

What are THOSE for? Becketth inquired hotly.

The flits, R'dard mentally muttered at her, then picked out a green dragon mug for himself as well. After a few moment's thought, he added a glowbasket, a greenrider's knot, and - ooh. Food. He quickly scooped up a tray with bubbly pie and meatrolls, then added a wedge of cheese. "This?" he said sheepishly, trying to fumble out the required marks and not drop his newfound goodies all over the floor in the process.

((So... green bowl, blue bowl, brown bowl, green mug, glowbasket, greenrider knot, cheese wedge, bubbly/meatroll tray...
= 745g n_n))
