Okay!
Let's say you're going to China, and of course, u must learn a bit of CHinese in order to survive there =D

The Chinese language has 2 'parts' 1st is the writing and the other is the hanyu pinyin (pronunciation).
ill teach you the hanyu pinyin first as its easier.

Sry, my computer suddenly kinda freeze.

But anyway, someone approaches you and says

Ni Hao means -Hi, how are you?
Well, to respond you can say the same thing...
"Ni hao"

Usually, when u use web translator they will have numbers after the word like
Ni2 Hao3 the numbers actually tells you how to say it. Did u learn Chinese before?

I know ni hao. Heard it in a movie. 8D

I never learned Chinese but my cousin's family is Chinese and brings her Chinese books. (she's 3, btw) I tried to pronounce some of the words, and it was hard. D;
PostPosted: Sun Jun 08, 2008 7:40 pm

hmm, the numebrs might help. try to pronounce the word like English,

nǐhǎo

see those small sign on top of the words? those are what the numbers represent.

sry i dont have a mike thats why i cant pronounce it to u.

http://www.instantspeakchinese.com/dictionary/compound.cfm

Ooh, that site is helpful. :]
PostPosted: Sun Jun 08, 2008 7:53 pm

Sry about that, theres something wrong with the link

try this one
http://www.instantspeakchinese.com/dictionary/compound.cfm?from=1&searchType=5&pinyin=pin yin&CFID=15433971&CFTOKEN=68881644

yeah, so as u can hear, the sound is flat. that flat sound represent no.1

now go here
http://www.instantspeakchinese.com/dictionary/compound.cfm?from=1&searchType=5&pinyin=ming zi&CFID=15433971&CFTOKEN=68881644
click on míng
and listen to the sound.
as u can hear, the sound is going up, just like the small stroke above.
thats no. 2

Next, go here
http://www.instantspeakchinese.com/dictionary/compound.cfm?from=1&searchType=5&pinyin=ni hao&CFID=15433971&CFTOKEN=68881644

click on nǐ
listen to the sound,
the sound went down and then went up just like the sign on top.
thats no. 3

and finally no. 4
go here again
http://www.instantspeakchinese.com/dictionary/compound.cfm?from=1&searchType=5&pinyin=ming zi&CFID=15433971&CFTOKEN=68881644

u will see xiāng tóng míng zì

click on the zì
and listen, the sound came down roughly just like the sign on top.

Hope u understand this part, im not really good at explaining >.<
