Alright...Ziarre was hungry, but the next delivery of food from the huntress' bounty wasn't for a while yet. So what was she to do...well, there wasn't much to do but see what game might lurk near the pass into the Aali'makabila's valley. Tail twitching, she jogged slowly through patches of grass and trees in the mountainous terrain, ready to drop down into a crouch should she catch a hint of movement. There didn't seem to be much to see right now, though...

Pyralis was feeling particularly -grouchy- that day. Not that he wasn't normally grouchy, it was just that today had a special 'zing' to his grouchy. With all things for the Firekin-blooded rogue, he never really had to have any ryhmn or reason to it either. Simply today's day full of wandering was not really appealing to him as he forced his dark body up to it's feet and had started his 'daily' quest again.

He was no Phantom of the savannah, more of a 'demon' in his own mind, the image of both those horrid white Lionesses who had scarred his body burned into his head. For a moment, he dug his claws into the ground in a venting 'seethe', before he forced himself to take a deep breathe, reminding him of the chunk of fur missing from his mane.

By no means did this 'mask' him as he stormed out into unfamiliar territory. Perhaps he'd be attacked for intrusion.. it would make -him- all the merrier.

Indeed, the black and red shadow prowling near the pass was hard to miss, and Ziarre groaned. Well, there went any chance of a meal...anything not a lion would surely flee from such an obviously foul-tempered male. With a roll of her shoulders, she broke into a lope to intercept him before he made it to the pass itself and the borders of the pridal lands. "Stopping might be a good idea," she said succinctly as she planted herself squarely in his path. "That, or I'll have to take it upon myself to stop you so...your choice really."

Women, it was always those goddamned women who were getting in his way. As Ziarre planted herself in front of him, the dark male also stopped, making a very firm effort to not automatically lash out at her in frustration, settling simply on a low growl and a slight shifting back of one of his front paws.

"A good idea for -who-?" he snarled, more than ready for a confrontation. Especially the one she'd just threatened on him which earned little in the ways of him feeling wary of the female and more amused, complete with a slight smirk.

Pyralis stood himself up straight with this almost cocky expression on his face, the 'guard' he'd had put up for all of a few minutes partially melting away. "Make me? I'd -love- to see you try." he challenged, flexing his claws.

One eyebrow shot up like a rocket at the stranger's challenge, and Ziarre fought to keep from laughing. "You're kidding, right? Your hide, and possibly your life, would be spared. Because..." She set back on her haunches, smirking as her tail twitched, "Even if you slew me, perhaps especially if you did, and somehow managed to continue on your current path, you would find an extremely chilly welcome." With a tilt of her head, she grinned cheekily at him. "What, did you think prides only kept one guard? Or do you think you can take us all?"
PostPosted: Mon Jun 09, 2008 6:40 pm

Pyralis's expression turned a little less sour, now tinted with a certain degree of confusion. "Pride?" he asked. He hadn't even known there -had- been a pride there. Not that it mattered to him. An existance of searching or nothing and fighting for the same nothing really meant nothing to a 'horrible' end by a pride of lions.

Hell, he would have rather been taken out by a couple of lions than gone on as he was. "A -guard-?" he taunted, taking several steps closer to get up in her face with a -very- stern expression. "They need to make their guards less......" he paused, seeming to mull for some decent word to describe what the guards needed to be 'less' of.

"Less -pretty-. Some big male might come by and just seduce them away." His tone was less of a compliment and more of a quip at the female gender in general. But by many observations, more females had been swept off their paws by big burly lions, less like himself, as he'd far from tried any such things, to wherever for their little happy ending. Tch. He'd believe in a happy ending when he saw one.

"The Aali'makabila, to be precise," Ziarre stated, taking smug satisfaction from his confusion. "Outsiders are generally unwelcome, unless they're interested in becoming one of the pride. Of course, there are those of us that would be more than happy to make those that aren't interested...useful." She let the implication hang in the air, figuring that if he didn't realize that it meant slavery, well...then it was his loss. She was here to defend the pride, not educate tourists.

When the stranger--larger than most males she'd seen--stepped closer, she bared her teeth in a warning. "In that case, they were no true guards at all, much less worthy to be graced of the rank of ushujaa. My mate, if and when I choose him, will be of the pride one way or another...I'm hardly about to be whisked away by some fool who thinks leopards and cheetahs are equal to the likes of me."

It wasn't the snarky response he was expecting. It almost made the entire meeting a -tad- bit more pleasant to him, even with her teeth bared at him. Spunky, by all means. He'd met his handful of spunky females in his lifetime, they were nothing knew. However, he hadn't found one that would even suggest he'd be taken as a slave. "I'd -love- to see them try and take me against my will.." he said with a slight hiss to his voice before straightening his posture again so he wasn't as 'in her face' as he'd been moments previous.

Further, he implications about the standards of the pride vs his statement received a grin. Not a 'happy' grin, nor amused. Just.. he was showing his teeth in a sort of twisted approval. Very good. She was actually seeming..... well, there was no real 'white' to her as many of his previous problems had had, so maybe that was a source of less hate, but he wasn't about to roll over for this one.

And she wasn't rolling over for him. Beautiful.

"Ah, is that why you're here then? To stand as the single strong beauty to put all the other's who fail the position into their places?" he jested with an almost venomous tone, wondering how far he could prod with his words before she lashed at him. The fact she hadn't yet was almost disappointing. At least, until she hissed about the other species of the savannah, bringing a similar growl to his own figure. Horrid wench or not, his pride in both his own bloodline and species brought a certain anger to him at the mention of the other felines who littered the grasses. "By no means are those psuedo-creatures on equal standing on -any- lion who walks the grasses....."

"I'm here to guard the border," Ziarre corrected, allowing her lips to slide back down over ivory fangs as she allowed the quip to pass...for now. Two could play that game, and this stranger would feel his own share of jabs. "Putting pridal transgressors in their place, why, that's the mtawala's job. Mine is to admit those worthy who wish to join, turn away those who are not, and if I cannot take a lesser creature as a dhaifu, to kill it. If the unworthy persist, they, too, may take their place amongst the dhaifu." Tail twitching, she narrowed her deep green eyes at him slightly, looking him over...measuring him. "You are no friend of the lessers, but I wonder...are you worthy of us, stranger?"

If there was anything he liked, it was a challenge, and she was definately sizing him up for some moral challenge by all means. Still no physical challenge to his disappointment, however. Then again, there was no facial expression he could use for a 'FIGHT ME NOW. I NEED IT.' Confirmation of his existance. As the female slowly listed her self duty, he felt the void that was his current anger slowly rage again, reminding him of his lack of existance.

Horrid, empty, angry.

Her judgement was all the less he needed, her eyes making him feel uncomfortable, bringing him to soothe himself by slowly sinking his claws into the earth again. The feeling of at least -something- subduing itself to his might being all he needed to remind himself that he was powerful, even under the gaze of judgement.

"Worthy of you? I should be asking if you are worthy of me." he said self confidently followed by a calming deep breath. "Fire burns through my blood, and I have marked many who will never cross my path again, in fear of their lives. Others have been more than marked..."

Well, this male was proving to be an antagonistic sort, wasn't he? Ziarre decided that if he wanted to be taken down a peg or three so badly, she'd be happy to do him the service. She made a light snap in the direction of his nose, teeth making a soft click as a warning that he was testing her patience. "Are you really fool enough to think that I'd take on the rank of ushujaa were I the type to fear death? If I hadn't already proven myself, I wouldn't be here. Fire in your blood or not, you are nothing until you likewise prove yourself. So give me a reason...why are you worthy?"
PostPosted: Mon Jun 09, 2008 11:42 pm

The teeth snap seemed to call out an unheard of attention from him, as though he were trying to figure out what she'd just done, before he settled his semi-wandering attention back on her words. Wandering wandering.. it would have earned him a swat any other time, and he'd probably swat himself for it later.

"Death? Whenever did I say I was going to kill you, -doll-?" he asked with a straight face. It was a thought that had truely never passed through his mind. Though now the idea was there and was almost formulating itself into a sort of disasterous plot.

"Reasons are words, doll, and from what I've gathered, you're not exactly a 'words' kind of girl." he answered smugly. In all truth, Pyralis really wasn't sure why she wanted to know his 'finer' points, at least physically. It wasn't as though he were trying to enlist in the military.

Doll. She'd been doing just fine, if starting to lose her temper a bit...and then he had to go and call her that. She was no mewling cub, and she was hardly about to stand for being spoken to like one! The tawny lioness glared at the massive stranger, eyes flashing with anger. "Oh, I don't know, when you implied that I should fear you because you're apparently mighty enough to cause sooooo many to fear for their lives?" she snarled sarcastically. "Tell you what, a*****e. Earn my respect, and you can do what you damn well please, be it leave or gain Zaliwa's permission to join us. If you don't, you can just turn your 'fire-blooded' black a** around and leave. Either way..." Her tone dropped to a dangerous rumble. "Call me 'doll' again and you will not like what happens."
PostPosted: Tue Jun 10, 2008 12:22 am

Her anger gave him the jitters. As she grew more and more angry, the more and more excited Pyralis became. Anger was one way he got control. As long as he kept his cool, he wouldn't end up in so many other horrible situations as he had in the past. It was a training exercise, and the results were.. well, he was enjoying them to say the least. "I never implied anything.." he whispered smugly. It was the truth. He'd never been trying to threaten the lioness in any way.

He'd simply been trying to assert his own 'greatness'. A proud thing to do, but still a masculine habit to be expected.

"Ooooh.. how -mature-." he teased, slowly slinking closer, again to get up into her face, before lightly snapping his teeth in front of her nose, then pulling his head away. He was -far- too experienced to underestimate her simply for being female. He'd had his a** handed to him before, he'd rather have a head start on any a** kicking -not- going straight to his head if it came to that this time.

"Say I -don't- like what happens. I happen to -like- seeing you get angry. " A smug smirk followed this. "It's 'cute'. Your playing the big, mean, scary female guarding your home. Good. For. You. However, you're also letting me jerk your chain. Better for me." he had -no- qualms with sharing his little victory before he'd get attacked.

Since that's about why he interacted with females to begin with. They're were more excitable.

Ziarre couldn't help it. She was hungry, she had gone to get a god damn meal and been interrupted by having to do her job, and had been pushed to the brink by this...this...this a**. And the worst part was, he was right!

A paw lashed out, claws extended, at his face. He'd gotten her good, and she was going to make him pay.
