Attention: Seven dolls were stolen from the NY Dolpa display. Hey guys, I apologise if this is in the wrong place, but I thought it needed to be posted here. This is copypasted from the announcement at Den of Angels, just in case any of you guys are not members or otherwise haven't seen the announcement. From the original mod post by Ashbet at DoA:
I'm just sick to make this announcement -- six of Volks' display dolls went missing overnight.
If you hear ANYTHING about these dolls, please let us know. Keep an eye on eBay, Y!J, and the DoA Marketplace, and we will be doing the same.
Here is the information about the missing dolls -- pictures will be up shortly. These are one-off, unique dolls. They do not have a headplate on the back of the head, they have an artist's signature inside instead.
(1) SD16 Girl "Ruby" w/black swan dress
(2) MSD Girl F-21 Fairy w/blue dress
(3) MSD Boy F-13 Fairy w/blue outfit (2 and 3 have matching outfits and long elf ears)
(4) MSD Girl F-22 Fairy w/yellow dress
(5) SD13 Girl F-29 w/yellow dress (4 and 5 have matched dresses)
(6) SD13 Boy F-31 Fairy w/dark green & red outfit
(7) SD13 Boy "Irvin" (FDQ Limited Model) w/Fairy default dress
Thanks, and let's all hope that these dolls are returned safely to Volks -- all of us here at Dolpa are really emotional about this, and I hope that no one has stolen the dolls for personal gain, and that they are returned without incident.
Mr. Shigeta personally stated that if someone took these dolls home and is willing to return them, no accusations will be made.
Thanks,
-- Andi, on behalf of the DoA Mod TeamLink to her original post on DoA. This has a separate post with photographs of the missing dolls. Please note the official announcement says in the title that six were stolen, but the thread lists seven stolen dolls. EDIT: An Additional bit of information from DoA member AyakaAn addition to this thread because I don't seem to see this information posted - though please take it as something I have heard from Volks staff, but NOT OFFICIAL INFO.
This morning when the Dolpa staff arrived, the Dolpa room was in use *unexpectedly* by another group and the Volks items had been moved. I left early in the afternoon and there was some question at that point that there was a *possibility* the dolls were among the boxes somewhere - since they had a lot of stuff with them and things were no longer where they had been left. (Mikey said something about going through the boxes in her announcement as well.)
But I wanted to add that it seems like a strong possibility that the dolls were taken, if they were taken, not during the night but in the morning - when the items were moved by whomever they were moved by. Crime of opportunity if there was one, it would seem.So maybe they've not actually been stolen at all and will be found. One can only hope. I have absolutely no afilliation with the mods of DoA or the Dolpa, but I was pretty damned disgusted to hear about this theft and I hope that you guys will be watching ebay and any other similar sites you can think of for these dolls, as I will. Hopefully we may be able to help them get these dolls back. EDITED TO ADD: Apparently, these dolls were NOT in boxes as was previously stated, they were left on the table and were snatched off of it.

I am upset about this too. I wonder who could be the thief?

Normally with things like this there is a good change that an employee took them (or a large group of kids did). I'd assume that they'd have a video camera up for something like those dolls.

I'm not even going to start with how much I dislike the security and how events are handled at FIT, I've been to four events in that college and there's always a mess somewhere and security is either painfully lax or obnoxiously tight, usually the former.
I've been hunting Ebay and Craigs List all day, I can't even look at the photos I took without feeling a bit nauseated. This was my first Dolpa and it was such a great experience with wonderful people. I hope it's not going to be the last after this.

I'm thinking an employee, too, 'cos it'd be a bit too coincidental that they handled the stuff while moving it so the other group could use the room and seven dolls just *happen* to go missing around the same time. I'm really hoping that there were at least cameras somewhere around the entrances/exits. And why does lax security not surprise me in the slightest? *snort*
Honestly, it makes me kinda sick. Hopefully, though, they will find the dolls or at least the person who took them, but I'm a little too much of a realist (or maybe just a pessimist) to honestly believe that's going to happen. I do have to wonder though, how in the buggering hell someone did not notice one or more people carrying seven boxes of that size away from where the Dolpa was being held. *shrug* If someone saw them, maybe they just thought it was someone who was staff for the event and ignored them. Whatever happened, it's not looking so good ATM.

I was picturing them like... all packed in foam in one big cardboard box. It's be way easier to misplace one large generic box then seven long, shiny volks boxes... but even then, that'd probably be a really heavy box... sweatdrop
Man, the president of Volks is probably so disappointed. I hope we can still have more Dolpas... sad
I'm almost kinda hoping that they were found by someone who doesn't even know what they are. I mean, every doll owner I've met has been super-nice, I can't picture any of them doing something like this...
If you were just a normal person, and found a random box of dolls... Well wouldn't you have turned them into lost and found? What if someone took them home and just gave them to their kids or something?! gonk
Whoever it is, they'll get found. There's no way they can stay secret... They can't sell them... Can't post photos of them... And if, for some reason, they get into the hands of some poor innocent, once they found out, I'm sure they'd tell where they got them from right away.
I can't picture it being an employee... They're all so nice... I mean, there'd be no way you could bring them on the plane home without being noticed. Not to mention, they'd have checked employees first thing in something like this.
I hope they've gotten the authorities involved, but I can't really picture the police taking missing dolls too seriously... sad

Maybe they were in one box. That would probably have made it easier. I was under the impression they'd been packed separately, but I wasn't actually there so I have no idea.
He's being really, really good about the whole thing. It actually surprises me. He's already said something to the effect of if they're returned no charges will be pressed, and then he said that if they're returned, they'll be donated to make-a-wish. I...have no idea how they're dealing so well with this.
Hopefully, most people would have. As for taking them home to their kids...*shudders and imagines them in the hands of careless small children*
These dolls are most likely going to be found one way or another. What would be the point of stealing them if not to sell or display them somewhere? If someone does have them, they are going to pop up sooner or later.
No, it isn't likely they could be brought on a plane easily, but what about mailing them? Might that be a possibility, d'you guys think? I know someone in the DoA thread mentioned a 24 hour post office nearby. How easy would it be for someone to take a box there and just go "Oh, hey, I bought these at the Dolpa. I wanna mail them home so I don't have to worry about getting them broken on the plane."?
I think they may have gotten the NYPD involved, at least I hope so. They might (granted, thats' probably a pretty big might) be a bit more inclined to at least make a token attempt to help in this case, with thousands of dollars worth of dolls and a company from another country being involved. I'm not holding my breath for any huge investigation, though. I can honestly just see them (and cops pretty much anywhere, to be fair, including here) going "Missing dolls? *snicker* Yeah, we'll get right on that. *snort*

I really hope these get found. I've been going all over E-Bay and cheacking DOA for any new info on 'um. How stupid can you be, stealing one of a kind dolls. The moment these dolls go out in public or are up for sale they person is gonna get caught.

The moment these dolls go out in public or are up for sale they person is gonna get caught. Me, too. I wonder how stupid these people can possibly be, did they actually think that the entire BJD collecting community, pretty much, would NOT be on alert and looking for the dolls the second we heard about it?

I also have something to add. Mr. Shigeta said these were going to Make-A-Wish if they are returned. I don't know if anyone else is aware of this because, I read it via the DoA fourms. I still find this incredibly heartbreaking. Also, check youtube for video's of these dolls. Sadly, people like to brag about thefts. It's a sad fact but it's also true.

it sucks that these dolls were stolen. and I'm not sure which employees you are thinking could have stolen these dolls, because I KNOW that the Volks employees wouldn't have. I've talked to Bailey from the Torrance store enough to know how loyal the Volks employees are and it really is amazing.
I heard FIT used the same room for some breakfast thing... I think that seems pretty ridiculous. :/ and then they forgot to lock the doors again- WTF?!

I think the thought was that it might have been someone with the event security or a FIT staff member, whoever happened to be working the Dolpa or just had access to the area. I wouldn't really think of Volks employees as suspects, to be honest.
Yeah, apparently they didn't bother to tell anyone that that was going to be happening. And forgetting to lock the doors? Pretty damn unprofessional, IMO.

This is just so incredibly rude. And stupid. Why the heck would anyone want a gorgeous doll that they can't show off at all? Hide it from everyone.. how boring. Do they sit in their room alone at night with the dolls, looking at them and snickering to themselves?

I sure hope they catch the freak(s) who stole those dolls. It's caused such a disturbance in the community, and I'd hate to think this would be the last Dollpa that Volks would hold in New York. It pains me and many others to know that our American integrity has been put into question. evil
