I looked up elves on Wikipedia (obsessive nerds that edit would know best anyway) and just FYI, I was mostly in the traditional and Norse stuff, since I've never been a fan of Lord of the Rings.

From what I could gather, there are a few types of elves.

>Dark Elves- Not necessarily evil. These elves live underground, as black smiths/miners. Some versions say that the work turned their skin black.
. . . [rant] Black skin? Sounds like soot, and deposits, maybe dirt. (but dirt is rarely black, more like brown) Not just that, but if they took a bath it should wash off. From what I saw, most elves are white, and that can't be just from races, which is likely why they made the black skin more a a permanent attribute. Funny thing is, you don't hear about the non 'black'/dark elves having a born profession. From how far I got, I didn't see payment or a reason to work there either, but probably for the elves on the surface when they wanted to war.[/rant]

>High Elves - Brighter than the sun, live in heaven.
. . . [rant] Not much on them, but nothing more needed to be said. Pure, beautiful, white white white. >.> >.< [/rant]

(Leaving out regular surface elves because of conflict of interest. Some times wood elves are the same as regular or surface elves.)

>Fairies - Did you know, that all those bagillions of spelling of this word meant something different? They do. One spelling is for tiny elves that may or may not be gods of fertility. So are like tinkerbell, big fireflies that dress similar to the wood elves, green/leaves and skimpy. Those Tinkerbell ones are the more magical, if you hadn't guessed. Oh, and sometimes the mini-elf fairy things, have wings, so I'm not quite sure what the difference is, besides one being more common in stories, and therefore more commonly god-ed.

Oh, and the pointy ears came solely from Tolkin's 'leaf-shaped ears'.

Vampires.
This ones is a bit random.

I'm not against making your own rules for it, nor using someone elses, but for Sanity's Sake TELL US WTF YOU ARE GOING BY. -_-

Here are a few of the more common pick and trade traits
>Required to drink blood
>blood from dead thing=poison
>blood is optional
>can only drink blood
>Live or dead
>super-powers
>monster

Apparently vampires are either beautiful or aren't vamipires. >.>

*cough*

Anyone else? I'll have more later, most likely. If you want I could post my skewed view on the wood/surface elves, along with what facts I don't 'forget' to leave out.
