Just as we have "Imagery from Music", here's the place to post videos about our favourite music videos from artists who sing in the fantasy genre. Of course, this thread is the sister of the other, and references can be made in between.
NOTE: This thread as well as the other are not for just posting lyrics and videos. This is a discussion guild, please remember, and therefore we're here to talk about them as well.
If I have to tell the differences between the two threads, this one is for a.) listening to the songs, and b.) interpreting the stories within them, and 3.) discussing how we can connect it to fantasy in general. Imagery from Music is to talk about what we personally see within the songs themselves. Do not feel under any obligation to discuss songs in either thread if you have not listened to them.
Part of me isn't sure whether this thread can be made significantly different from the other one though. Suggestions are welcome.

I love Within Temptation, and The Howling was the first song i ever heard by them, they are one of my favorite bands
Anyway, I just watched the video from your link above, and i have to say, i love it. I think it could be that she is seeing into the future possibly.
When she opens the door, its as if she is going into another dimension or something like that, or possibly to a different time period.
I really liked the part where the butterfly turned into the scorpion. I could show what the little girl was like. She's all happy and seemingly harmless holding her doll. But in the darker world, she's all angry and unhappy, kicking her doll around the place. Or maybe is shows both their main two personalities, like Gemini.

Well, as she says "when we start killing, it's all coming down right now, from the nightmare we created, I want to be awakened somehow", I believe she's talking about the state of the world and what we've done to it and each other.

Gee I, I rarely listen to music so don't expect me to post here a lot. I'm sorry that I can't add anything worthwhile to the subject but I feel I should check other threads in the little time I have. sweatdrop

Nice one Mel! I like Fleetwood Mac! They're one of my favorite bands from the 80's. There's no doubt that the 80's had the best music ever, he-he.
The video was pretty cool too. Seems like a story told in oldest times (I wonder if I said that right). sweatdrop

A few hundred years ago I'd say. Not the OLDEST times.
I've only come across this song as a good one from them so far. Had a listen to a couple of others last night and didn't really take to them, but of course one isn't going to like every song from their favourite bands.
That song (and I got a friend to download it for me) makes me think of my pirate and the childhood friend who he's not seen since they were kids when they finally meet again. She fancies him but he won't commit. He's a sailor and is on the see most of the time, and regarding that, he's not going to want to commit.

Nice lyrics, though I don't think they exactly fit with the video. I guess my mind didn't click with the '80's music and the old setting.

Thanks for the correction there FP! I still can't believe that with all my years of learning English, I can still mess up like that, he-he.
Anyways, I feel like posting a song that can fit the thread but I can't think of one for some reason. I guess I am not much of a music lover, am I? sweatdrop

I think the video does fit. It's about two people that love one another, but it follows the conventional theme of "forbidden love". That sort of thing only really happened back in those times. Just because most 80s music is techno in one way or another, it doesn't mean you can't put a different type of image into it.

Also, the lyric from The Howling "Is this the ending of what we've begun? Will we remember what we've done wrong?" goes along that sort of line, only looking into the future of it.
As far as Fleetwood Mac and forbidden love. I don't listen to 80's music that much (sadly) so I have a few forbidden love or doomed love songs to share. A few good sad/romantic ones are Love You to Death by Kamelot, Loreena McKennitt's The Highwayman, and Nightwish's Bless the Child. There are a ton more, but Kamelot and Nightwish both have wonderful fantasy videos if you like a less-screamy form of metal with a fantasy base. I'd be happy to link by request. ^_^
