It was late evening, the moon was already up and the stars were starting to come out one by one. Thoth was in a good mood, as was not unusual for the good-natured and cheerful lion, and the calm star-gazing only made him that much more cheerful. He was getting settled in for the night, happy to take a break after a day of wandering around aimlessly. It was tiring work, if only for the fact you didn't really have somewhere you were going. He only had to keep his eyes open for familiar lions, and so far that wasn't happening too easily.

But he was optimistic.

It was almost an addiction, rather than a habit, for Namir. He sat out in the middle of the grass, staring up into the sky as though a messiah of some sort had just come to the world and was up there glowing. Then again, in a way it was. Namir would have imagined that, in any other scenerio, he would have been rather bothered by the idea of the moon 'watching' him. But instead, as a child, he'd declared it a staring contest. Unfortunately, he'd sort of grown -attached- to that idea.

It was only after a moment that he shook his head and laughed to himself, forcing himself to look to his paws, settled into the grass which barely showed itself in the moonlight, in opposition of his legs which looked as though they radiated in it.

He allowed himself to dote on the memories for a minute, before he slowly rose up to his paws. Dreaming about a place wasn't as productive as actually -looking- for it, as he had been for so long. How many places could a little pride have hidden from him? Well, not a -little- little pride, but.. yeah...

Almost as the thoughts entered into his mind, Namir yawned, the night telling him to sleep after a day of wandering and finding nothing. Not even a familiar face.

"It's as though the Moon is hiding us from the world..." he said out loud, chuckling a bit.

The sound of Namir chuckling floated through the quiet, night air. Thoth hadn't realized anyone was around when he'd picked a place to stay for the night, he usually just dropped where he had happened to be at nightfall. He'd kick himself if he'd known he was so close to an old friend when he stopped looking, but of course you find what you were looking for when you stop looking.

His ears perked up and he looked around, but laying down in the grass wasn't a good position to get a good view from. With a yawn, he sat up and continued looking for the source of the laugh with narrowed blue eyes. Namir was a dark lion who was rather hard to pick out in the dark of night.

"Hmm."

It was the movement that caught Namir's eyes, his entire head to look towards the source of it. Part of it was a self-aware habit, the other was a suspicion he'd get attacked. While he had rarely been attacked, the possibility was still there, an invader of his mind. His weight shifted uneasily for a minute, but when no 'attack' came, the brown lion slowly lost the notion.

Namir turned his body to partially face the figure he saw sitting in the grass some distance away, his eyes narrowing to squint in the limited amount of light, before it finally focused on the... blue? Blueish.. gray? No....

As he tried to settle on a color, he slowly approached the lion who was sitting in the grass and was... staring back at him? Almost surprised, Namir looked around for a moment, pondering if in his unobservance he hadn't noticed someone, seeing nobody upon the check, then looking back to Thoth.

Wait.... not blue, not gray... Purple! Purple fur.... Not purple like that one female's had been, a...muter tone of it. Familiar... Familiar.

"Maybe the sun is burning away at my memory, but.. you look so familiar...." he said out loud, partially to himself, partially to Thoth.

Thoth continued to stare, the dark shape of the other lion becoming clearer and clearer in the dim light of the moon. His mind immediately flew to the missing Mwezi'Johari members that he knew, there were several lions that would be hard to see from a distance in the dark- but he'd never be able to tell from here. Decisively, he got to his feet and went to come closer- he had a job to do, after all- when Namir spoke up. It was loud enough to hear, but just barely. The voice immediately caught his attention, though.

"And you're voice is familiar," he said, daring to hope and jogging the short distance to know for sure.

If there was such thing a well placed tumbleweed in the savannah of Africa, it would have rolled by in the silence that came from Namir right then, his brain taking the familiar voice and coat and slowly going through the filing cabinet that was run by the turtle

A turtle that was working a -little- bit faster than normal, as it soon came to the 'ally' folder and was slowly sifting through it. Not fast enough for him, though. However, it did bring a little bit of hope as he slowly came closer to the male who was in turn approaching him. He -knew- that color.

"T-..Th..." he seemed to try and find a name, but wasn't doing as well as he would have liked, but it -did- lead to one conclusion. He hardly let a name stay in his mind unless it was some sort of significance to him. He couldn't even remember the names of many of the lions he'd met in his travels.

Which meant he had met this one before them...

Finally he dropped his voice to a whisper, not wanting any strangers to hear him utter it; "The Mwezi'Johari...?" It was all he was going to ask. If they knew what it was, great for him! If not, then at least he'd sound crazy with little explanation.

"Namir!"

The name was easy for the male to recall, he would have made a good historian priest if he had not been one class too low for such an important post. But they made use of his memory, it was why he'd been chosen to go out and look for the stray members. And there were very few other options, of course. But Thoth was happy to go, and not a bad choice for it. He didn't care that Namir didn't even seem to remember his name, they weren't any closer than having fought the same battles and lived in the same pride. It was still exciting to see him.

"Yes, Mwezi'Johari," he confirmed, a grin on his face now, "It's Thoth. I've been looking for you! Well, and everyone else who's still lost- but you're the first lion I've found."

Namir perked ever so slightly. "Yes! Namir..me.. Na.. My name -is- Namir.." it took a minute for him to get over his bit of excitement at being recognized that seemed to run off with his ability to speak properly. However, he seemed to have snatched it back out of the air in order to continue the conversation that had just come up.

"-THOTH-, that's what it is.." he laughed a bit and shrugged his shoulders lightly. "Names aren't exactly my strong suit." he admitted sheepishly, proud of himself for remembering just his and the name of the pride for the most part. But it was nice for him to hear he wasn't the -only- one walking around lost.

"First one, eh?" he parroted, but his entire demeanor seemed to droop just a -tad-. It was almost depressing to think that since he'd been wandering for a while he was the first one to have been found. "Well, guess if you found -me-, you can find pretty much anybody, hmm?" he jested to lighten the mood.

The excitement shown in Namir's stammering was heartening. This was exactly why Thoth had agreed to spend so much time wandering away from home. He was a pride lion, through and through. He'd never make it happily as a rogue, that was certain. But he would do it if it meant helping the others find home again. He just hoped he could find them before he spent a whole lifetime out here looking for them, but he wasn't about to give up any time soon. Especially with Otieno still out there, and especially where he'd finally found someone.

"That's OK," he assured Namir when he mentioned names not being his strong suit, it was enough to be recognized, and he laughed, "And I hope so. We're all eager to have everyone home and settled in again. We found the new lands some time ago, a rogue actually was the one to point us in the right direction!"

"New lands? I -knew- I wasn't going mad!" he exclaimed, giving way to know -exactly- where he'd been looking for the pride and being very unsuccessful with it. Yep, right where he'd left them! This, of course, led to more questions from Namir.

He didn't even think to presume that the new lands meant everything else was still the same.

"Where are they? Did anything significant change? Do we still have the same leader or did one of the previous's kids ascend?..." it was a longer strain of questions that went on forever. Namir wasn't even sure he knew who the previous king -was- anymore.

Well, no.. he would have been able to recognize them, but he would have also mistaken them for their son by chance as well.

Thoth couldn't help but chuckle at the questions Namir asked. It wasn't hard to imagine that some might be fuzzy on the details, especially a lower-middle class hunter who was bad with names and had been wandering on his own for quite some time now. In all the confusion between the end of the war and the migration, it also wasn't surprising someone had gotten lost and confused there, too.

"Unyezi officially took over, the King and Queen did not make it through the war or to the move," he explained, a touch of sadness in his voice at the mention of Nesibindi and Khalela, but otherwise he was optimistic, "He and Aureole were actually expecting last time I was home."

He paused and took a moment to remember exactly where he was with respect to the pride. Turning slightly, he looked off into the distance.

"The pride is that way," he said, "If you find a jungle, you're too far south. The beach and you're still a bit too far south, but following the beach north and west should get you in the right area. You should find someone you recognize."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 09, 2008 11:11 am

His overall demeanor fell at hearing that the Queen and King in -his- mind had passed on, without him even there to help bid them their final farewell. Not that he was a nessecary figure to do such a thing.. but he'd practically lived his life under those rulers. Namir couldn't remember far back enough to be sure of it, but it seemed right to him.

"Unyezi, huh?" he mused, his brain obviously seeking to put an appearance with the name, though it was going about it -very- slowly... very very slowly. Again, the turtle wasn't going very quickly about it. But then, he'd have a couple of days before he had to put a face to the name. He knew he wasn't 100% sure of the female's name, though... but he'd be able to meet the new Queen when he returned, he presumed.

Well, see at least.

As Thoth started to give directions, Namir slowly looked in the one he was looking in, nodding as landmarks were given. If there was anything Namir was good with, it was directions. Perhaps it was because he'd been a hunter his whole life, always finding one place to return to. Now he'd be finding it again.

"North of the jungle, northwest of the Beach..." he repeated, then grinned a little. He'd totally be able to remember that. "Really all the way out there?"

Thoth nodded when Namir repeated Unyezi's name. Unyezi shouldn't be too unknown a name to anyone who'd been around, Njiru only tried as hard as he could to make him look bad- and there was the fact that he'd always been heir. And when they got home- or when Namir did, anyway- there just might be another heir running around already. Hopefully Unyezi and Aure wouldn't have let themselves get into a situation where they had a second generation of Njiru and Unyezi on their paws; Unyezi couldn't want that for his own cubs.

"Well, we're closer now than if we were sitting in the old pride lands," he offered cheerfully, "I can go with you, actually, if you like."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 09, 2008 11:58 am

It wasn't that he didn't know the name, it was that he was horrible about connecting the dots. So for now, he was going to presume it was the white one.. white one? Yeaaahhh.. one of them was.. YEAH. His brain was totally functioning to some extent. Go him!

Thoth's offer received a light headshake from Namir. "Oh no.. I'm sure I'll be able to find it from those directions..." he assured with a grin. "If there's anything I can do, it's follow directions." Perhaps it was a hunter thing. Work in groups, follow instructions, work as a team...

Part of him really missed that and was looking forward to becoming part of the group again.

"But at least I'm not walking in the wrong direction anymore, hm?" he added in his own cheer, before he sat down in the grass, yawning quite audibly. It -was- nighttime, afterall. He should have been sleeping.

"That's right," Thoth agreed, happy to have some cheerful chattering going again. Following Namir's lead, he too sat down. He doubted that no matter how excited either of them were of having found each other that anyone would be heading off in the middle of the night. They were both getting settled for the night when they accidentally found each other. It was ironic, but it was lucky and Thoth was not about to argue.

"I didn't expect to find anyone tonight," he said, making small talk now, "It's funny that we both came so close but almost didn't spot one another. I don't even want to know if we've been wandering around nearby and just missing each other more than this."

He chuckled.
