She couldn't believe she'd let that happen. She should not have bothered that goddess, should she? Now she'd never grow up. She was stuck like she was forever. Now, not that she ever wanted to.. y'know, get old and all that snazz... she did want to get bigger, but that wouldn't happen. She'd always be runty. Just great.

She hadn't really told anyone yet, though they'd probably notice when her siblings grew and she remained small. Juust great. she wouldn't ever beat Chokuto and Mak, either. or maybe, if she fought well enough, but they were huge next to her! They could sit on her. It sucked.

Which was why today she'd slipped by the scouts and patrols and snuck into the elephant graveyard. she wasn't a cub, at least. she'd always been curious about hyenas anyway.

Tibuka was a different patrol, and the patrol she hadn't slipped past yet. Now, the graveyard was full of white, really. but the thing is, white in here was usually dull and graying.. perhaps even reddish or yellow. But when he saw that white of the adolescent, he knew the difference, simple because her white was... different. It was white-white.

He snarled, picking up pace. This was definitely a lioness... and she was trespassing.

The large male came out from behind her, blocking her path and snarling loudly. "You. You're trespassing. " He eyes her for a moment. This female was rather small for a lioness, wasn't she? .. this one should be easy.

Wingu was surprised, spinning quickly to face the hyena, ears perked. In the back of her mind she took note that this guy was bigger than she'd thought. She was still taller than him, but his larger bulk was obvious to her. And.. the teeth.

But, daring as always. "Yeah. what're you gonna do about it? " She demanded, raising her head boldly. Now way she was afraid of this guy.

Tibuka perked his ears at her, his growl deepening. Daring fool. "Oh, I don't know. " He said, moving closer, beginning a tight circle around the lioness, ears relaxed despite the rest of his body seeming tense, his hackles raised and tail twitching irritably.

"What do you think? "

That actually made her heart speed up a bit, nose wrinkling as he got closer and started moving around her. Those teeth were so close.. and her pride stopped her from simply running. "Not going to offer me a meal, I expect. " She folded her ears backwards, remaining stock still, save for her eyes that followed him as far as they could.

"You're prolly just gonna chase me out, aren't you. " That seemed most likely to her.

Ooh, witty comments. he loved those. Feisty little girl, wasn't she. "No. " He smirked. "No food for you. " He continued to pace around her, sizing up this lioness calmly. Ah, so thats what she thought he'd do. It was heart-warming how kind she thought he was, really.

"Oh, see, little girl.. a while ago thats what I would have done. I'll give you one hint at what I'll do now. It starts with a k. " He paused somewhere behind her as he said this.

Wingu tensed, ears drooping to the side. She knew what he was getting at, and didn't like it. But might as well stall him a bit while she thought of a way out of it. She shouldn't have come here, should she. "What does it end with? " She asked, trying her best to sound like she wasn't shaken.

"You'll see. " He snarled, a sound like loading a gun erupting from his throat, cutting the otherwise quiet atmosphere of the graveyard like a warm knife on butter, then launching himself towards the lioness, crashing against her and biting at her hind legs.

Wingu had expected her stall to work, and when he snarled she felt frozen, unable to react quick enough to get away from him and soon enough she felt the teeth connect with her ankle, yelping in surprise and rolling, twisting her body to reach at the hyena's head with her front paws, claws out and ready to fight back.

She just hoped she would get out.

Tibuka clenched his jaws, using that known strength to bite into the white lioness' leg, shaking his head vigorously and walking around her, as if to make it harder for her to strike him when he was dragging her around. Soo enough, though, he actually pulled her towards him, remembering his usual strategy. Her paws where what hurt him; so if he broke them, she couldn't attack half as well.

The hyena let go, leaping over the lioness and trying to close his teeth around one of her front legs, making sure to step on her belly with one of his hind paws, if only to wind her.

She gasped as pressure was made onto her, but twisted away to protect her paws, ending up instead with teeth in her shoulders, to which she groaned, but recovered quickly enough to bite on the back of his neck. Sadly, there he had something like a lions mane, something she didn't have as a female. And her bite was loose and weak, despite the strength.

Not what he wanted, but good enough. Tibuka bit as hard as he could here as well, before letting go, twisting his neck then yanking away from the female, biting this time at her head, teeth grazing her muzzle before her managed to grab somewhere near her jaws, to which the lioness pulled away as well, despite him knowing that it'd hurt him.

She was losing and she knew it. this guy didn't fight like chokuto or Mak, he fought to hurt.. badly. His teeth were the worst, but the entire time she felt blows from his paws to her chest and sides, his dull hyena nails scraping painfully against her. With a surge of adrenaline, she pushed upwards with her hind paws, wrapping her front around his neck so that her claws dug into his back, biting at his shoulders.

Tibuka bit back a yelp as he felt teeth and claws in his back. However, he was smart. The bones were hard in his shoulders, of course, Wingu should've predicted it. He wasn't much heavier than her, but even then.. The hyena twisted, gaining speed and throwing his back towards the ground, intent on squeezing the lioness' head against it.

"Not so clever now, are ya? " He sneered, rolling off the lioness.

Wingu was winded, and let go pathetically once she struck the ground, remaining on her back and looking dazedly fore ward. She felt numb, like she couldn't move and get up, or if she did she'd simply collapse onto her side. She closed her eyes, rolling lamely onto her side, and as if subconsciously reached out a pall to pull herself up.

He smirked. He was feeling particularly mean right now.. killing her was easy as biting her throat.. but first he wanted to make her hurt. With a growl, he bit at the paw she'd been using to pull herself up, using it to drag her across the ground, making sure to hold her in the most uncomfortable, painful way possible. His nails had cut light wounds, and that first bite in her hind paw and shoulder were definitely going to feel some pain from this. His idea was confirmed as he head the female groan slightly.

Next he bit somewhere along her back, before grabbing one of her paws again and pulling her upwards, only to toss her carelessly to the side. "Get up. "

Wingu was waiting. She was finally coming back to since the blow to her head, and she felt her wounds throb painfully. Not that many were deep, and no vital place had been seriously struck yet, but she was sure he intended to do that soon enough. Anger surged through her, she didn't want to die. Rolling to her paws, she got up, staggering slightly and growling. She glanced at her hind leg. The worst wounds were that, and the others on her two front paws, despite her shoulder hurting as well, it wasn't as deep. if she got out now she'd still survive, but she couldn't run.

Sucky. But she snarled, watching as the hyena leapt at her again. She kicked and clawed, but soon found herself on her belly, against the floor.

He was in a bit of a dilemma now. Though Tibuka's teeth were firm around the back of Wingu's neck, she twisted and kicked violently. Now, he'd hard a hard time to get her pinned like this below him, but from here he couldn't reach her throat. With a growl into her fur, the hyena stepped onto the wounds on her front paw, to which the lioness yelped loudly.

"So, " He said through a muffled pile of fur. "What're ya gonna do now? " Tibuka wasn't showing it, but he was quite injured too. He'd had an advantage, yes, but her shoulders hurt horribly and her scratches stung like hundreds of bees. He wanted to get this over with, but this stubborn girl just wouldn't let him kill her! But he was stubborn too.

She winced, closing her eyes tightly. "I don't know, what do you think? " Wingu growled, trying to lift herself, only to feel his bite tighten and flop onto her belly again. Dammit, this hurt like hell. She should've dragged Choku or Mak with her. She didn't usually like hiding behind their strength, but if they'd been here, at least she wouldn't be in this situation.

She could beg, but Wingu was too proud for that. She growled, glancing around and trying to think of a way out. Maybe she could just throw him off and run? She'd look like a coward, though. And she felt rather lightheaded. Worse, she was beginning to feel a loss for air, her exhaustion making breathing rather hard, and the weight on her back didn't help at all.

This wasn't going to well for her, was it?

Now where had that darned girl gone? Makali had looked for someone to hang out with today, but Choku was nowhere to be found, and Wingu wasn't either. However... Mak had caught her scent as he padded by the border, looking for some fun. Determined to not spend the day alone, Makali followed the scent. At first, he thought nothing of it, just follow the scent, but then... Then he noticed where it had gone, and he didn't smell Choku's scent with hers. Wingu... Runty wouldn't have been stupid enough to go to the hyena's packlands alone.

... would she? Now concern rose in the adult's heart. He knew Wingu was a tough girl, and he had a sneaking suspicion that nothing bad would happen, but he also had a feeling that something bad would. He picked up his pace, careless of whether he was being watched or followed. He padded among the bones, the scent constantly getting stronger. And yet, the closer he got, the more he smelled an odd smell, similar to anything he smelled whenever he managed to make a kill- blood. His ears picked up snarling voices, and the worst of what he had imagined was slowly becoming true as he crested some elephant's skull.

Golden eyes found the sight, Wingu, bloodied with a rather strong hyena pinning her, and he knew that it wasn't a game. His blood boiled at the sight. Nobody but nobody hurt his friends. Makali roared harder than he ever had, he felt his pulse quicken and much of what would be his diplomacy vanish. The grey male charged without a word, taking a swipe at the hyena when he got there.

He perked his ears, cyan eyes snapping to focus on the lion as it came towards him, yet despite the current situation, all he could do in his mind was.. be snarky. Typical, lions and their little emotional habits. He growled as the lion approached, but forgot to move as he raised a paw, and found himself pushed out the first, landing rought only the ground a few feet away, but getting up quickly

"Ooh, about time some knight in shining armor showed up. " He said sarcastically, beginning a wide circle around the two. This lion was bigger... but perhaps his little 'girlfriend' over there could slow him down.

Wingu wheezed as the hyena was suddenly off of her, coughing and curling up slightly. She didn't want to get up now, depsite Makali's intervention the bite on the back of her neck was now deep, though thankfully it hadn't gone into anything important.

Still hurt like hell.

and her pride was probably worse now, as she glanced at Makali quickly before looking away. Dammit, she was being saved. She never needed saving. She was supposed to be able to handle herself, not need anyones help!

Under normal circumstances, Makali would be fretting over his friend, but these were, by no means, normal circumstances. Normal was a bruise or a minor cut that were quick fixes and often didn't hold anyone back at all. She had pretty deep bite marks, but he didn't exactly have the time to catalog her wounds. The problem piece-of-scum beast still stood before them, ready for more.

"Shut up." He said tersely, the male wasn't about to make pleasant conversation with the beast. He had been pleasantly surprised when he found that his blow had connected and done the job. Priority one was to get the pair of lions out alive and in one piece. He didn't care if it meant running away. Makali may have had as much pride as the white lioness behind him, but he had his sanity. His emotions wanted the brown thing dead, but he knew the best way to get out of here was with most of his strength and with Wingu.

He remembered quickly what Choku had said about these beasts. Wild dogs, only bigger, meaner, and typically dumber, but he wasn't going to throw caution to the wind. It'd managed to beat Wingu, and Mak knew the girl was tough. He had something she didn't, though. He was much bigger, and he was bulkier.

"Get out of here, Runty, if you can." he said, not turning around to look at her. His eyes never left his opponent. His tail flicked behind him as he tried to think of what to do, as quickly as he could think. Hyena's real weapons were their teeth, they didn't have the benefit of sharp claws like a lion. He figured the best place to grab would be just at the shoulders, there was no way anything could reach back there. That was his target when he lept again. If he could grab that area and toss the hyena, he was sure he could buy enough time to get her and go.

"Can't. " she grumbled, looking at her paws. three of them were hurt, so unless she learned how to bounce on one, running was an impossibility. And she needed to catch her breath before she did anything. She did slowly start getting to her paws, though, and soon was.. sort of sitting.

"So proper, aren't you. " He grinned, continuing his walk. Tibuka seemed calm, perhaps annoyingly so. "Runty! What an adorable nickname. " He laughed that famous laugh hyenas have, but his attention was on enough so that when Makali jumped him, Ribuka ducked, simply rolling beneath the jump. Tibuka was a smart seasoned fighter-- but he knew he wouldn't get any kills today.

So as one last annoyance, while Makali was recovering from his lunger, tibuka leapt at wingu, but rather than a real attack, he bounced off her like one would leap from rock to rock to cross a river, landing a few feet away and turning with a smirk to look back at the duo, Wingu having just been thrown back onto the ground. "I'd love to stay and chat longer, but see, I'm no fool. I know when I can't win. I'll leave now, and I suggest you two hurry on your way out. I'm coming back here soon with more hyenas, and if you're still here by then, I guarantee you won't win. " He chuckled. Despite his wounds, Tibuka was always up for playing the a** a little longer.

"By the way, don't try to attack while my back is towards you. I'll just yelp so loudly everyone in the graveyard will hear, see. Thats just not smart. " With a mock-polite bow of his head, Tibuka turned and trotted off.

He was glad it was over. damn feisty little female.

Wingu huffed, once again winding up winded on the floor. But she pulled herself up again, watching the hyena go.

"a**. "

Makali had been quick to swivel around and face the hyena (who had put himself exactly where Mak hadn't wanted him; between Wingu and himself.) When his golden eyes fell on emptiness where he had expected to see the brown creature, his eyes quickly trailed the hyena and found him, a snarl lingering on Mak's face. He gave a last growl at the hyena's words before it vanished. His rage was enough that he hadn't really registered much of the earthy-brown creature's insults, Mak was good with selective hearing. He did catch the warning, however.

He finally turned his attention down to Wingu. The odd feelings of joy and anger filled him. Glad that she seemed at least moderately ok, but upset that she'd been foolish enough to come out here on her own. Kind of like the feeling you'd get when someone who ran away came back home.

"Yeah." He said, with one last glare at the last place he'd seen the hyena. "Come on, we've gotta get out of here," Mak said, lowering his body. He knew that she couldn't run, maybe not even walk, and he wanted to take no chances on getting caught with a pack of those things. "If you can walk, then you'd better, otherwise I'm carrying you." There was no room for argument, and he showed he was serious by lowering himself a little more so that she could climb on if she needed.

Wingu gave Makali a glance from the side of her eyes, twitching her tail tip for a moment. She blanked out for a moment, looking blankly at Makali before suddenly snapping back to herself, forcing her legs to work so she could stagger away from him. "I'm fine. " No, she wasn't fine, of course, but she was damned if she'd lean on him like those prissy sissy girls that couldn't wait to have their prince charming.

"Lets go. "

She mumbled, and started to walk, wincing every step and grateful that for now, adrenaline stopped it from hurting.. too badly. But she did make note to try and not wince on the side Makali was. Last thing she needed was for him to get all... worry..y.

Makali would've chuckled at her condition if it was a little less severe. The male couldn't help but smirk, though, as she hobbled up by herself. He rose fully and padded along at a respectable distance from Wingu. He knew her well enough to know that she was trying to cling to what shreds of dignity she'd have left after that episode, and he understood completely. He knew it must ache walking after that, but he let her struggle. He'd catch his friend if she fell.

"What an uncool jerk. Too bad we didn't get to chew on him together, huh?" Mak asked with a smile, and what would've been a nudge. He had stopped before he touched her and gone back. An attempt to lighten the mood on the way home.
