Well..here it is, as promised...kinda: The official topic for the Allman Brothers Band, and also a place for discussion of ABB related bands. biggrin

I don't feel like getting together the whole list myself, so here's a site that has every band connected to the ABB listed:

http://www.abbdiscography.com/familytree.htm

My personal favorites are Gov't Mule and the Derek Trucks Band.

My dad named my sister and I after allman songs. I got "Sweet Melissa" and my sister got "Jessica." I love 'em. My dad went to the ABB and Skynyrd tour in Raleigh, NC...I was so jealous but I was in school. He is a truck driver and happened to be in the right place at the right time.

That's awesome that he named you two after him! xd And yeah...I WAS going to see that tour, too, but I missed it because of a stupid mistake. It came through San Antonio, Texas on a Sunday, and I thought I wasn't going to get to see it since it ends around midnight, and I had school the next day. It turns out that I had Monday off that week, but I didn't find out until 7:00 PM that Sunday....when the concert starts. stressed And it was an hour + long drive to San Antonio alone, probably 30 more minutes to the venue, so I was screwed...talk about a stupid mistake. gonk Fortunately, I've got the closest thing possible to seeing it. I bought the Instant Live for that concert, and it should be coming in some time soon.

My dad loves them. I think they're okay, from what I've heard.

If you like bands that jam, check them out, they're excellent. THE greatest southern rock band, and the one that started it all.

Great. biggrin What albums have you checked out? Let me know, I always try to help someone new to it. If your dad loves them he probably has alot of albums, so it's good to know where to start. xp

Ranblin Man'
Midnight Rider (Personal Fav)
Whipping Post
Dueling Banjos
Southbound

Yes, I know that that isn't a lot at all. Could you reccommend some to me?

Songs? Hmm...check out some stuff from the Live at the Fillmore East album to start...and Dreams, and Blue Skies...and...well there's alot. No need to mention that you download legally to me, I just see that as betraying the point of downloading. xp (Trying out music for free, before buying)

Yep, Fillmore East rocks. It sucks that they left Mountain Jam off of it though. Because it was too long or whatever. I think they have another one in which they put it on there. I'm not sure though, my dad just has the original where they left it off. It's awesome to jam to though, needless to say Duane Allman is the BEST slide guitarist. Oh yea, and my dad said he used a glass pill bottle as the slide for his guitar, which is great.

Yes, they have a two disc "complete" Filllmore set that runs for around $30. You can also get various versions of Mountain Jam on several recordings, although I'm sure that particular Mountain Jam would rule. And yes....I believe he did use that as his slide, although I'm not completely sure. What can I say? They didn't start out wealthy and he liked to keep to tradition, no frills, no bullshit. xp

Interesting story....at one time the band was at a Led Zeppelin concert, and when it got to the part where Jimmy Page plays his guitar with a bow Duane felt it was a gimmick and due to that he got so pissed off that he walked out of the concert right on the spot.

I was never really a fan of the Allman Brother's band...until I saw a recording of duane playing slide.

I never really liked Dicky Betts much, but what I'd like to to know is...

Who's the guy who replaced Duane Allman after he kicked the bucket...of peaches?
