The summer hadn't been unbearably warm so far, which was a blessing Leon counted happily. He didn't really mind the heat so very much, but it did tend to wreak havoc on his mane and tail, as well as wilt much of the greener he had come to appreciate so much under the tutelage of his beloved one, Gemma. But the air had turned humid early that morning, just as the sun had begun its ascent. Dark clouds had rolled over, and distant thunder had promised a wet afternoon.

Gemma had rushed off on one of her rescue missions, leaving him feeling rather bereft and alone. He didn't like her running off like that, because sometimes those missions turned dangerous, and she'd come home injured or disheartened. He had a strong urge to shield her from all that. But for the time being, he had a welcome distraction. The thunderstorm had rolled over the mountain and now was rumbling above them, scattering a surprisingly gentle but rather warm rain over the land.

Opting for a walk to enjoy the change, it wasn't long before his mane was plastered to his purple neck, and his hide was streaked to a deep shade of dusk. He closed his eyes and he very slowly walked through the light forest. The sound of raindrops on leaves pattered three dimensional pictures into his mind, a visible rhythm for his imagination's delight. He inhaled the heady secent of wet earth and green things, nostrils flaring appreciatvely. Eyes still closed, a sudden slash of color swept across his mental rain-pattern as a bird called loudly nearby, it's lilting, repetitive song dancing across his mind, accentuated by the pauses between calls. He stopped in his tracks, savoring the sounds, muzzle tipped upwards to meet the falling rain, ears pricked to catch every sound, and eyes blissfully shut.

For a brief moment during his wandering, the forest truly came to life right in front of him. Animals everywhere, on the ground floor hunting, in the treetops playing, suddenly scattered. Golden eyes watched as a little gray ground-squirrel paused in the middle of its evening meal, sniffed the air, and bounded off to a more sheltered patch of fallen moss. The sensitive fibers on his own nose were aquiver as well, sounding a purely instinctual warning that he should do something similar. The rain was coming and his path be reduced to mud quite soon.

Teagan trekked on. A moment more in this heated wood could result in a lapse of his memory just as it had time and time before. The sea beckoned him to her mysterious girth, though he had not even once glanced at her since the time of his birth. But he had heard her name on the lips of other travelers, he had found himself immediately taken by her rumor. If he was to find inspiration, he decided, he needed to behold this 'ocean' of lore. If only he could find himself away from these woods, he thought. Any other time he would have been cheerful to be oblivious. Was he wandering now even closer to the sea? Or had he taken a wrong turn and put himself on a path right back where he'd come from? He didn't know.

Suddenly there was something warm thumping against his muzzle and back, collecting in the curve of his spine, pouring down the shifting muscles of his legs. It was the rain, and a warm one at that. Teagan didn't find himself minding all that much. It was like a heated bath he had never had. He was a deep violet in color, nearly black when he came upon the sight of Leon. And yes, it was quite a sight to him, automatically pausing his step at the recognition of another equine.

Teagan felt strangely touched. The other male looked so peaceful where he was, taking in his environment. And here he was, trying to just make his way through to a purpose. The unicorn felt almost ashamed of himself, perhaps even jealous of his fellow's perception in that moment. Ears lowering slightly, Teagan actually waited, not daring to break such a serene picture lest something within him give out and kill him for it.

Eventually it was rain rolling down his nostrils that broke the reverie. He lowered his nead with a gurgly choke, coughing out the liquid that ran down his throat, then sneezing out what was left in his nose. Bleh, that hadn't felt very good, he mused. Maybe next time he enjoyed the rain, he should keep his nose pointing down.

For now, he shook his head vigorously, scattering drops of water everywhere as his curls swung and twisted. Still wiggling his muzzle comically, he began to look around himself, his mane an odd combonation of wetly damp and vaguely fluffed, due to his shaking. It was then to his chagrin that he noticed a visitor. A deep colored stallion stood quite nearby, his hide too dark to distinguish in the rain. A sinking feeling made the somewhat shy stallion duck his head. He must have looked a fool, inhaling rain and choking on it.

In the old times, he would have panicked and spun to dash away, mortified beyond words. But his loving and trusting relationship with the sweet and bold Gemma had changed Leon, so that instead of fleeing, he merely heaved a resigned sigh. If the other stallion thought him short on common sense, there would be nothing he could do to convince him otherwise. In the meantime, he might as well be polite and prove himself to be at least friendly, if not quite all there.

"I'm sorry, I didn't notice you there," he began hesitantly. "Please pardon my daydreaming. It's a habit that's hard to kick." He offered a weak, rueful smile, only vaguely hoping this other would understand what he meant. Few did, after all. His mate generally simply accepted him as he was, though he didn't think she always entirely understood his bouts of daydreams. "Let me introduce myself. I am Leon, it's a pleasure to meet you." He noted the striking markings on the other male, and his elegant horn. Oh, what Leon wouldn't give to be so dashing in appearance!
