So, while making stuff, I decided it might be nice to have a numeric Armor/weapons rating system instead of just a worded one. who's with me on this idea?

I'm actually liking the worded system. It gives you a good sense of how useful it realistically is rather than giving some random number that you can't really understand at first glance.

true. So i came up with a hybrid system using words and numbers, 11 words, 100 numbers, each of the words up to 'infinite' has a set of ten numbers, showing the relative strength more specifically. sure you could still just say heavy, and it would have more or less the same meaning. but saying heavy; 65 as opposed to heavy; 62 shows that one armor is slightly stronger than the other, though stil in the same weight/strenght category.... A little more complicated, yes, but it still keeps the simplistic worded system for those who don't need specifics. I had it written up but the computer it was on died crying i'm using someone else's computer with none of my stuff on it.... *dies*

Ouch. Well a hybrid system sounds even better, best of both worlds. Let me know when you get it up : X
Still procrastinating on the carrier write-up...

I'm just jotting down notes for further construction of the damage/health system. Still working on this post....
****
HEALTH
Ship Classes: Corvette, Destroyer, Frigate, Cruiser, and Finally Battlecruiser.
A 'Carrier' is simply a ship that holds room for smaller craft. A corvette is simply too small, so anything of the Destroyer Class and up may fit into the role.
****
DAMAGE
Personal Weapons Classes: Pistol, SMG, Assault Rifle, Battle Rifle/Sniper Rifle, Special Weapons (Grenade Launchers, Rockets, Missiles, Etc. )
For Personal Weapons, Machine Guns may fall into the Assault Rifle range to the Special Weapons range. The logic behind this is that a machine gun is basically an automatic version of these classes. For example, a M242 SAW fires the same ammo as the M16, but with a big ammo cap and full auto. The MG3 fires the 7.62 bullet, the same as many snipers, yet is fully automatic accompanied by that classic belt of lead. And then there's the special class, which something like the M2 Browning will fit into. It's more like a light autocannon in regards to the sheer power it has. And looking at the M82 (which has been recorded to blow people in half) the classification fits.

You know, and I don't know why, but I envision destroyers as smaller, but hard hitting ships. Frigates as all purpose craft, and cruisers as the long endurance ships which soak up fire, may operate for extended periods of time all at the expense of hitting power . Hmm. A cruiser is a long endurance ship. A battleship is similar to a cruiser in size and tonnage, but has larger, more powerful cannons and does not focus on defense as much. A battlecruiser would be a combination of both features of hard hitting and endurance. Just jotting more notes down...

For the ship classes, what is the size range for each class?
Also, We need to use Sections to give us the proper health ratings for ships. How many sections do each class have contributing to their health?
Something like a corvette should have no more than two, while something the size of a battleship or battlecruiser could have upwards of ten sections.
