Adalina wandered through dense woods, shivering, cold and afraid. It was dark, she didn't know where she was, where her family was and didn't know what was going on. Bright jagged flashes lightened the forest floor and large booms shook her to her bones. There was nowhere to hide from it all, nowhere safe, every shadow looked to jump at her, every snapping twig under her hooves was some creature coming to take her away and never let her go. Wasn't there someone to help her? Anyone...?

Earlier that day
"Alright Lina! Now all you have to do is close your eyes and go count to..we'll say ten. Then once you reach ten, you come and find me. But it won't be easy, I'm a REALLY good hider," he said with a wink that made her giggle. Once her eyes were closed he trotted off to find a good hiding spot.

Lina hid her face against her legs as she lay in the grass and counted. "One...Two.....What comes after two daddy?" Momentarily forgetting the game she looked up and around but didn't seem to see the rainbow figure that was her father any longer. Even though she hadn't finished counting she figured he was hiding already and took off to find him. She looked everywhere and not a sight or sound of him anywhere and the one place she thought she hadn't looked sounded like a perfect hiding spot to her and probably did too to her dad...

Hours later though there was still no sign of him and it was getting dark, the large trees providing some shelter from the rain but not very well. She had tried to turn around and go back a long time ago but there was no way to tell which way she had come. She hadn't really even been paying attention to which way she was going, she was just worried about looking for a large rainbow figure. But he wasn't here. No one was. She was alone...

The small polka dotted little filly kept barely trudging along, her shaky legs barely able to even hold her up anymore. She'd have to stop sooner or later. Finally she did beside a large tree that had a small indentation in the roots for her to lay in. She was still cold, wet and shaky and it was still dark and loud due to the loud booms in the sky. And she finally began to cry. "Daddy...Where are you..?" she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Powerful jaws were ground to together violently, though the rippling cacophony of frail, twig-like bones shattering beneath the increasing pressure was muffled by the murky lake water surrounding pitch colored muzzle. Water frothed around the mountainous beast's head as the writhing fish in his mouth struggled to escape the clutch of imminent death. Its fins cut the water, surfacing in a desperate flap before sinking back into the lake.

It was something of a awe inspiring sight.

Pariah stood up to his knees and hocks in the chilled water, thick neck cresting in a bridge towards the surface where he patiently held his meal of the evening. Waiting patiently to feel the last throb of the trout's heart between his teeth it was proving a difficult task with the rain beating down on his broad back and the body of water where he held his prey. Sheets cascaded around him creating a miserable gray din that dampened one's perspective of the world. Not Pariah of course.

His perspective was already far too jaded to be influenced by something as trivial as the weather. Thick fur which had adapted to the harsh elements of his homelands repelled most of the droplets which cascaded over his backside and ran in thin streams to collect in the basin below his belly. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said of the stallion's bangs.

Clumping tendrils of twisting, platinum forelock hung heavily in his eyes, beading with water and making it difficult to see. Not that sight was particularly important at this point. Solid musculature tensed within the brute's neck as the twenty pound aquatic creature was lifted from its home, steadily trudging towards the shore as thunder clashed violently, causing the forest to shudder around the Talbuk stud. Lightning wasn't far behind, lighting up the ominous cobalt sky briefly before the world seemed to become darker than before.

Carrying hefty kill with head held high, there were few predators wily enough to attempt to steal the meal from such a worthy and able bodied opponent as Pariah. Flicking sopping bangs from his line of vision, mismatched stare looked on fearlessly, giving immense frame a rough shake to pry loose the wetness that clung to his tail and stocky legs. The burdening padlock around his neck jangling as a silent reminded of his past. Striding into the forest and away from the open clearing, a tiny figure did not go unnoticed by the stallion. Her scent found him first even in spite of the overwhelming dampness that filled his nostrils.

She was frightened whoever she was, and obviously alone as he scented no others in the area for miles. Nearly passing over the tiny figure hidden between the roots of an old tree, lumbering frame paused sharply. Midnight ears quivered at attention and his nearer ear swiveled towards the weeping foal. Intimidating head inclined slowly in her direction, fish dangling from his mouth as obsidian orb rolled down towards Adalina.

There was a large part of him that wanted not to get involved, but his own sense of honor wouldn't allow him to budge. Tail flicking irritably. He must have been mad, this was ridiculous. He was probably going to terrify her all the more.

Adalina had been trying her hardest to just keep her head hidden so she didn't have to look out into the darkness. It only made things worse in her mind. But something was coming closer, definitely something large. Very large. The big, loud steps were coming closer and they sounded like they'd be on top of her in any second. This was the end. She wasn't going to see her daddy again, or her momma or even her brothers. The few friends she had met would never see her again, they'd probably forget all about her. So now they only game she got to play, the last game of her life, was the waiting game.

But the steps stopped. Maybe the creature had wings and had flown away. Or she'd just imagined it. Yeah that was it, just her imagination! To help soothe her nerves she lifted her head and opened her eyes, peering into the darkness. Her eyes almost popped out of her head they grew so large. The huge white figure stood out in the darkness and had to be at least twenty times bigger than her! All she could focus on was his size, large sharp horns and pearly white fangs now digging into the flesh of a dead fish. Her shivering escalated not only from the cold but from sheer fear of this thing standing in front of her, staring down at her. There was no way something that looked so frightening would let her live.

Her reaction was predictable. What the hell could he expect from a foal lost in the woods in such disastrous weather? Watery blue eyes bulged from the filly's head with fear, though his attention averted more towards the tear tracks upon her cheeks. What little heart Pariah had that wasn't hidden by a shield as hard as diamond went out to her. Attentive ears flicking towards the low growl overhead, sighing from around the briny trout in his mouth. Foreboding eyes lifting to the patchy canopy overhead. Well he couldn't just leave her here in good conscience. Deciding to keep her with him until the storm passed, he would decide his next strategic movement when the time came for that. For now he'd concern himself with seeing she survived the night.

Come along foal. Heavy voice filled the space between them in a gravelly and tactless manner. Pariah hadn't spoken to anyone in years and the fact that thunderous vocal chords even formulated the brusque demand, in the first attempt, was impressive in its own right. Grunting from around his dinner, massive, cloven hoof steps were taken in a continuing motion of his previous path. Pariah didn't pause nor look back, expecting the filly to follow his order obediantly, though he couldn't force her to come with him. If she chose to remain on her own with wolves a foot, that was her choice. He wasn't one to force the hoof of a female even if they were ridiculously brainless creatures at times.

( sorry it's so short, not much to write. x3;; )

The small filly flinched at his deep voice and just stared at him as he started to walk away. Did he really want to help her? Or was he just using his voice to invite her to her doom? Every single bone in her body protested against going with the large creature, what possible good could come from following him?? He’d probably just step on her or crunch her with his teeth just like that poor fish! …But what other choice did she have? It was either stay where she was in the cold, dark night or take a chance that the large creature wouldn’t eat her and actually have someone with her.

Adalina stood up on shaky legs and wobbled after the large furry white figure. She wanted to ask where they were going, why he was out here in the dark, why he wanted her to follow him…what he was! But she swallowed all of them, including her voice in general as she followed after him through the dark forest. She wondered what her daddy was doing right now? Was he looking for her out here? Maybe he was still hiding and waiting for her to come find him! …Or maybe he’d just gone home without her…The thought almost made her start crying again but she swallowed the tears and just focused on walking and not tripping over any branches.

It wasn’t too long after they were walking before there was a series of howls that echoed through the forest, making it sound like they were all around her. She stopped for a second and looked around frantically for the source of the howls but only saw darkness and the large white figure, still walking away. Speeding up, she tried to catch up and darted underneath his body, making sure to walk right under him and right between his legs so she didn’t get stepped on. “Wh-what was that??” she asked as her bright frightened blue eyes continued darting around, looking for any sign of movement through the trees.
