the devil is a powerful force and many christians fall because they do not take him seriously. satan is indeed a thief and a destroyer... but his favored position against man is as a liar. He tries to get us to accept many lies: that he does not exist, that he has no power, that he does not care about our lives, that we are not sinful, that we do not need God. these are just a few of his biggest lies and if we believe them then satan is happy.
"satan is a liar" is a phrase christians use when they are doing something to bring glory to God and they encounter struggles. It stems from the knowledge that satan is trying to stop the gospel, combined with the power of the spoken word. Our words have power and so by declaring that "satan is a liar" christians are encouraged to keep trying and to praise God. We know that though it looks like we are losing, it looks like there is no way out, it looks like we will never make it... in truth we are victorious in Christ. so even though we are going through the storms, we may be hurting and aching, but we can press on because the things we see and feel are false. they are deceptions from the wicked one.
lastly, we call ourselves warriors but sometimes we forget that we are in a great war. satan is not a weak enemy and its foolish of us to think that we are stronger than him. It is God who is victorious over the devil, He alone can defeat the devil. Satan is always planning and attacking the saints of God. He hates it when we praise God, he hates it when we give God the glory. He does attack us and tries to discourage us from following JC. but He is defeated by the love of God!

I remember as a child that I once did something wrong and said in defense "satan made me do it"... I no longer agree with that excuse... its not an excuse.
however satan is responsible for trials that we encounter. consider Job and the struggles he faced, the depression he fought with. He had to stand and say "satan is a liar", he had to see that the attacks did not show that God had forsaken him. God never forsook him and so Job praised the Lord even when he had nothing.
So when you are talking to your friend about the love of Jesus and they get called away by someone else or when you determine to go to church on sunday morning then your car gets a flat tire, open your mouth and let satan know that you are not giving up that easy. Glory and honor we give to the God of our salvation ^_^
