He stood in front of the mall, and had to fight the urge to flee.

RuiZhi loathed the mall. Well, that wasn't right; he loathed the girls inside, and the memories it brought back. Memories of Rylenn, of being stalked by the girls, of pretending to be dating to get them away but it only served to backfire... Yet now, here he was, trying to force himself inside to buy something nice for his real boyfriend, who was nowhere in sight. The Chinese youth swallowed hard. It was JUST a mall. The fear was unfounded, but it was still there; first impressions were hard to break.

The young man tugged at his sleeves, taking a step towards the entrance before turning on his heel and walking away. He would stop, turn to look at the mall again, and repeat the process. He probably looked quite mad, darting to and fro as he was.

Zach, in turn, was headed to the mall for some off time - as he rather enjoyed wandering around looking at all the stores. He paused when he saw someone outside doing something odd. What in the world...?

Going up to RhuZhi, Zack tilted his head. "Hey... are you lost?"

Releasing a sound between a squeak and a cry of surprise, RuiZhi jumped and turned in the air at the same time, staring wide-eyed at the youth. Determining that the other was not a girl, and therefore nothing to be immediately afraid of, the Chinese boy smiled with embarrassment. His cheeks flushed a little as he shook his head, eyes shifting over to the mall as if it might sneak up and bite him.

"No, not lost, just...well, maybe, but..." Real smooth, RuiZhi. He sighed, laughing quietly. "S-sorry, I've got to go inside but...I'm not really familiar with the mall." There, a partial truth, but a truth all the same. He'd been too focused on his companions the two times he had gone in that going by himself was near foreign a concept.

Zach gave the other boy a bit of a strange look, but he smiled then. "You've never gone in the mall before...? How long have you been going here not to have gone in there?" But in the next moment, he dismissed the question with a quick little wave of his hand.

"What are you looking for? I'll help you, if you want..."

"Oh, I..." He'd been to the mall before, but he'd rather not remember it. Or, more accurately to say, he didn't want it to be the only driving force in his memory of the mall. RuiZhi paused at the inquiry, smiling a little, recalling his purpose to this place. "I want to buy a gift for someone special. I was thinking...maybe...a charm of some sort."

The youth extended his hand. "Sorry, I'm RuiZhi. I don't think we've met before."

Zach blinked a bit at the answer, wondering what the other boy had been about to say before he cut himself off like that. But he wasn't one to pry, usually, so he let it go with another quick smile.

"I'm Zach," he said, reaching out to take that hand and shake. "Full name's longer and more complicated of course," he said then, with a playful little roll of his eyes. "So yea, usually I just go by Zach." If RuiZhi asked, he'd tell him the whole thing, but he tended not to.

Then he titled head and considered what the other was looking for. "A gift huh..? Hm. Probably your best bet would be the bookstore or maybe the nature place. What kind of person is it that you're lookin' to buy for? What do they like?" Zach seemed perfectly willing to continue helping the other out - after all, he had nothing else to do right now. It could be fun!

The introduction elicited a grin from RuiZhi; it was different, and he liked that. "You can call me Zhi if you want. It's nice to meet you." He wouldn't press for the other's name, as that would be far too rude for the Chinese youth on a first meeting. If they became friends, well...that was a different story all together.

At the inquiry for the kind of person, the young man laughed. "He's, uh...he's a rule breaker, a bit rough around the edges, but he's a good person." He hoped that answered the question sufficiently, as he wasn't sure how else to encompass Scyeth in small phrases and words. Also, just calling him his 'boyfriend' didn't seem very descriptive, either.

"Ah..." He took another step towards the mall, looking at Zach apologetically. "...what are you here for? I-I don't want to keep you, and I have to go inside anyway, so..."

Zach tilted his head a little at the description, and smiled slightly. Sounded like some of his own friends back home. And also like there was more to it than just 'a friend'. But he wouldn't push. "Well, nice to meet you then, Zhi," he replied with a little nod.

"As for what I'm doing here, I was just gonna wander around for a while and look at things, so I've got nothing else to do. I can help you look, if you want."

"I'd like that," he replied, moving towards the mall with a little more certainty. It was a boyish, irrational fear, but it was there and he wouldn't let him conquer him. At least, not when he had someone else with him. RuiZhi gave Zach a small smile, pushing open the doors to the large building and entering.

It took some control not to tuck his head down and walk as fast as possible; while that would get him through the mall, it wouldn't let him look around for his objective, now would it? Keeping his chin up, he looked around at the first few shops, nodding slowly towards the length of the mall. "Do you know where those shops might be...?"

Zach paused for just a second when they went into the doors, a little smile playing on his lips at the other's still-obvious nervousness. He was quick to hide it though, and act like he hadn't seen anything out of the ordinary. "I end up at the bookstore a lot... it's down this way," he said, nodding his head off to the right.

"Hm.. only went in the nature store once or twice, but it's at the end of that other hall. Where d'you want to go first?"

The youth bit his lip, nodding. Dang, they'd have to go into the bowels of the mall for this, wouldn't they? Nothing like proving your affection by facing one's fears, right? RuiZhi sighed a little, offering a dejected smile to Zach. "I suppose the nature store." Scyeth was a bit of an animal himself, so it seemed only right to start in such a place.

Crossing his arms over his narrow chest, RuiZhi glanced over to Zach, trying to pay more attention to him than anything else they might pass along the way. "The bookstore, huh? I don't think I've ever been." Which was somewhat surprising, in retrospect, but the youth had too much studying to do to worry about fanciful things, even if they did lend to the cause. Everything he needed was in his room, and it wasn't exactly healthy in hindsight.

Zach nodded at that and turned to head down toward where the nature store was. He didn't exactly remember the name of it at the moment, since he only really paid attention to the types of things inside - rather than the sign outside.

Watching the other, it wasn't hard to tell that RhuZhi seemed almost nervous, somehow. Hmm... well, maybe he didn't like crowds. Zach steered them both over to one side where there weren't quite so many people before tilting his head a bit.

"Never been..? At all? There's some pretty interesting stuff in there. I've even found some books that had helped with classes. Maybe if you're not in a big hurry we can go there too," he suggested with a quick smile.

"Mm, no, I haven't," he repeated with reluctance. "I've never been beyond the food court, to be honest." And that was where his fear originally stemmed from. It would take a good deal of persuation (or dragging) to get RuiZhi to return to that place, especially in his new uniform. He cringed inwardly to think of what the girls would do to the two, especially since Zach seemed to be a kind and well-meaning individual...not unlike himself, so long ago.

After a moment of thought, the youth seemed to relax in the slightest, some of the tension draining from his shoulders. He welcomed the distraction of conversation and the possibility of visiting a new place over his own internal turmoil. "I'd like to visit, if you have the time," he agreed at length.

"Sure," Zach replied with a friendly sort of shrug. "I don't really have anything else planned for today, so we can do whatever.

Then he fell quiet for a few minutes as they walked, shooting sideways glances at the other boy from time to time.

"Ah! Here we go," he said then, stopping in front of the store they'd been heading for. "See? Like I said, there's a lot of neat stuff in here," he murmured, wandering inside and looking around. "D'you see anything your friend might like?"

He blinked, then snapped his fingers. "Oh! You could probably buy stuff to make something yourself if you wanted to ... instead of getting a pre-made thing." A shrug. "But that's up t'you."

RuiZhi smiled and nodded, content for the time to walk in silence, unable to completely stem his nervousness at both his task and his new company. He still was far from a social butterfly and wasn't the best at handling everyday things like small talk and pleasantries. He was all work and no play, by his own decision; he was a-okay with that.

His eyes lit as they entered the store, looking around at all the baubles and items, his stride slowing to take it all in. "There is a lot," he agreed, a little more than overwhelmed at everything within his sights. At the comment, he gave a startled laugh, shaking his head. "That's a great idea, but I don't have an ounce of creativity in me." RuiZhi smiled, almost embarrassed, looking over a few charms and jewelry pieces. "Something natural would be best...something more like him."
