I live with four cats, a dog, and sometimes an older sister. The last one was very hard to house-break.

Fire-belly toad? Bombina orientalis, perhaps?

Be an example to your men,
in your duty and in private life. Never spare yourself,
and let the troops see that you don't in your endurance
of fatigue and privation.

We have a dog and two cats.

Always be tactful and well-mannered and teach your
subordinates to do the same. Avoid excessive
sharpness or harshness of voice, which usually
indicates the man who has shortcomings of his own to hide.

We have two parakeets, who like their cage left open and are very shy of people.
Then there's the dead llama in the basement freezer, but that hardly counts.
There's also the zombified "moose" and scores of ghostly sea monkeys.

I had a little hamster that did. At night he'd get out of his cage and play in my room. The next morning I'd find him in a corner in my closet so I'd lock him back in his cage for the day and then let him play at night.

That llama has been frozen for quite some time. Probably a llama-cicle by now. I bet that would look cool in a museum. (Ba-dum chh!)
