Hirun Hikari

So, Hikari's PSP (an old Black Fat) has been shot for a good time now. I've gotten it to turn on and boot the menu, but the IdStorage (contains all codes to link hardware) has been mucked up to the point where it doesn't read disks or start up games from the MemStick. Unfortunately, this means I have a pile of PSP games I purchased that I can't really play. >____>;

So, I'm toying with the idea of getting a new PSP Slim. It's about $200 for a new one that comes with a game and a movie. I currently am looking at a nice Red limited edition one. (God of War Edition)

However, Shoy owns a Slim as well, and says me buying a new PSP is a total waste of money. He borrows my games and plays them, but he can be very pissy when I play with his. When ever I bring up buying the new one, he barks that I could borrow his and I should buy something "sensible" like a PS3 or X360.

WalMart has a deal where you buy a $400 PS3 and they give you a $100 gift card. Now, when I think "PS3", I think "Sony's deadweight console / George Foreman Grill". X360 sounds fun, but they're $340 (WalMart offers a $50 giftcard).

A PS3 is one of the last things I want, and a PSP would allow me to eventually play Birth By Sleep (as well as all the games I already own). But every time I go towards a PSP, Shoy brings up his conversations with Roy of "you're wasting your money" or "idiot, buy a console".

Any ideas?
Anyone else going to buy a PSP?

I personally don't get a PSP because there's not really a lot of competitive games out for it, and the online-shooters don't match up to the 360's line-up. If I got a PSP, it probably wouldn't even really be even touched. This doesn't really answer your question, does it?

Well, if you decide to play the PSP, the scales are about Fun vs Money Spent. Are you really going to enjoy the PSP out of the money's worth it takes to buy it and play the games? Or are could you have even more fun playing on another console (PS3, 360, Wii, etc) and perhaps spending a bit more money? If you enjoy playing the PSP a lot to the point that you can satisfy your entertainment just by doing so, then by all means, go ahead. If you can spare the money and make up for not wanting to buy it, do so as well. (Although you might want to save your money anyways. confused I can't say the same for my DS and Pearl that's been neglected to the point of being lost.)

I don't know, perhaps my non-motivation to not buy the PSP makes my opinion biased. It's all up to what you decide. wink

I say try to find a new PSP. Not a slim one, a "black fatty" as you put it. Why? Custom firmware, or some other techno jargon term, can get you to play SNES/PS1/other good system games on it from free (illegal, but everyone does it anyway) downloads. For that reason, I regret getting a slim.

Buuuut, don't put the PS3 out in the gutter right now. They've been searching for momentum, and that momentum is coming, slowly but surely. With titles like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Little Big Planet, the system is slowly getting actual decent games. Don't count it out, if anything, count Xbox 360 out, since they're getting slower and slower. If it matters, Wii is keeping it's momentum with stuff like MKW and SSBB, and WiiFit, but they're running out of things to milk.

But yeah, it really comes down to what you want. It IS kinda stupid to buy a new PSP Slim if your bro is going to keep his word. Remember to ask him with please and thanks before you play it. >.> I know that sets me off when people touch my things without asking.

lololol My PSP is a Slim, and is hacked. Slim isn't unhackable.
Just beg someone with a fat PSP to borrow their battery for a day. >3>;; (ThencallmeorHirun)

My main reason why I say "DON'T GET A PSP" is because we don't have any of those other cool systems *cough360/PS3cough* and getting a third PSP when you can use mine, just ask damnit. I find it incredibly silly to get another system that we already moan and groan about how shitty the selection of games is, just because you want to play Birth by Sleep when it comes out.

It's not that I hate you using my PSP, it's just I wish you'd ask. It's one thing to use it, it's another for me to not know where mine went and find you fiddling with it without telling me. -3-;; (Though I guess it's not all bad, because last time you did I got to play Pokeymans Shinygold for the next week. <333)

Why am I equals heart?

By the way, there's another thing to factor in. You guys may be parting ways after highschool, so (lets say Hirun got the PS3), Hirun will be PSP less with a pile of PSP games, and Shoy will be PS3 less during the time that it's probably thriving. Of course, you guys at that point can buy it again later, but just something to keep in mind, unless you guys are going to the same post-secondary institute.

tbh, I stopped reading after one of the 'sensible' suggestions was a PS3

Sharing is stupid, if you want a PSP, buy one.

But I mean if Shoy is offering to share with you, then do it. Im not use to this sharing concept since between my brother and I it use to be "I BOUGHT IT, ITS MINE, YOU CANT USE IT"

Though do keep in mind that:

1) BbS has no announced release date.

2) By the time it is released, a PSP's prices may have gone down.

3) MGS4 comes out next week.

4) SC4 comes out end of July.

5) The FFXIII's

6) Guitar Hero 4

7) Rockband

Just throwing things out there to help your thought processes. Not going to tell you what to get.

Fix'd some moar

For the most part I was just throwing out games that were both PS3/360 (with the exception of MGs4 and the FFXIII's). Really, not trying to throw much of opinion in the matter.

User ImageIf you're planning on sharing with shoytoy and getting a console, i'd personally shove the xbox 360 in your face until you suffocate.

One problem i find with the ps3, is that the majority of the games out for it so far are sports games. Fine if you're into that sort of thing, but it's not for everyone. My boyfriend's brother bought a ps3 and the ONLY game he plays on it is little big planet. He regrets buying it extremely, and wants to ninja steal my boyfriend's 360 every time something new he wants to play comes out, and he comes over.

Perks of the 360: ARMY OF TWO, LEGGO SERIES (BATMAN [sept 08], Indiana Jones, Star Wars), Mass Effect, HALO (1, 2, 3!), Ninja Gaiden 2, ROCK BAND, Call of Duty 4, Oblivion, Grand Theft Auto 4, etc. (games named are ones my boyfriend enjoyed, the ones in caps lock are ones i also loved.)

Also, there aren't many really good games for the ps3 that aren't cross-console with the 360 (little big planet exempt)

Also, i agree with Druki in that by the time the game you want comes out, the price may have gone down. Also, there may be a "package deal" with it where there's either a cool skin (like god of war), or the price includes the game. And if you're comfortable with sharing Shoy's psp until the game comes out, you might end up with both a cool new system AND a new psp to boot. 3nodding User Image

To support the PS3, almost all games that Toastie mentioned, aside from Ninja Gaiden 2, which there is Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3, and even the originals on your VC on the Wii, Mass Effect, which is REALLY hard to just put aside as if it was nothing, and Halo-overated, everything else is available on PS3, as are PS3 sports games on Xbox 360.

Right now, I'd honestly say Xbox 360 has the better lineup of games, however, we all know Sony's reputation of getting the most and a lot of the best games, and they've just had a slow start. Really, it's either instant gratification or gratification in the long run, both which don't matter if you are planning on getting both. Sony will not be dropping out of the platform race, at least this generation, and if there is one that will be, it'll most likely be Microsoft, if there was to be one.
