She'd found a new love, one that had crept out of nowhere. One that she thought she'd never have. Love was odd like that, wasn't it? One moment it was a stranger and the next it was a familiar friend.
And what was her new love, you might ask?
The sea. She'd fallen for the ocean, completely and utterly.
It was odd really. Rokopelli had never been one for the sea. She'd been a sand cat through and through. The desert was where she had been born, where she'd grown up and where she'd been imprisoned. It was where she intended to stay with the Dawn Walkers and where she felt most comfortable. So what had changed? She had made a new friend. Her bodacious brother, the God of Surf. And after befriending him she had found out that actually, the water wasn't something scary. It was beautiful!
In fact, right now, the sea was the only thing that gave her peace of mind. So it only made sense that this was where she spent many of her confused days, staring out across the wide expanse - looking for the thoughts that she had misplaced somewhere. Or more accurately - which thoughts were true and which ones were muddled.
She yawned, stretched in the sand and glanced out across the waves, watching them play effortlessly towards the coast. Oh, it was beautiful. She certainly would miss it when she finally gathered herself and moved on.
"Ho hum, what to do, right?" Pelli questioned herself lightly.
"Swim!" Roko squeaked.
"No, no, not without Juuku. Might drown without him, precious."
"Drown?"
"Uh-huh, best stay here. Sand good, drowning bad."
And that was how she reasoned with herself, lying sphinx like upon the golden stretch of sand that she loved as much as she loved the water.

Not far from the shore, another God was seemingly talking to himself, although it was underwater so the words would've been impossible for most others to understand. "How many times have We told you not to come so close to shore? You'll get eaten. Being eaten is icky and wrong. You wouldn't like it." The large God was actually talking to one of his many creations; a small fish.
After being lectured, the small fish quickly swam back out to sea, leaving the God free to take a break from swimming. Swimming was effortless for him, as he spent almost all of his time in water. He only came on land to relax in the sun, and possibly to be admired by others. Today, he had no idea what he would be getting.
Once his paws reached the sandy bottom of the beach, the God of Fish stood up out of the water and started walking the rest of the way in-land. His fur glistened and shined in the sun, whilst his very thick and curly mane flopped elegantly over his body and face. With a quick shake of his head, he flicked back the mane that was covering his face, and wriggled his nose in an effort to separate his whiskers. Then finally, once he was completely out of the water, he flexed his spines towards the sky. The translucent pink skin between each spine gleamed as the sun's rays passed through them, bathing him in a pretty pink glow. It was quite a show, despite the fact that he didn't even notice that anyone was watching.

But someone was watching.
Rokopelli had seen him emerge from the water. At first she thought him a sea monster - which wasn't surprising since she seemed to have this idea in her head that monsters lived in the ocean. But as she watched the sun glittering across slick, shiny fur, she realised that this was another God.
A God with fins and pink-hued fur!
She'd never seen anything more beautiful in her entire life!
She stayed where she was a moment, practically trembling with excitement, her claws digging into the sand as if she were trying to fight back the urge to go and give this new, pretty God a great big hug.
"Pretty, pretty! Can we go touch his fur, do you think?" It was her lighter, childish side talking. Apparently relaxing enabled both personas to have an equal say in such matters. Either way, the moment Roko spoke, Pelli shoved her back, determined not to be beaten.
"No, precious, no. Don't you remember? Gods bad. Might hurtses us."
"Juukie not bad."
"Katana...rak...katak was...though."
"Who's that? The mother, bad, god, thing?"
"Uh-huh. Wait, no, not mother. Silly Roko!"
"Roko silly? Pelli is too."
The Goddess stood, shook the sand from her fur and stomped a paw. "Shush!" And with that the sandy Goddess trotted towards the other God, head and tail high, wings slightly extended.
"Where are we going?" Roko whispered.
"We're saying hello!" And she raised her voice to call to him. "Hellooo~"

Bahari'nswi raised a paw to sweep back a thick strand of mane that refused to leave his face when he flicked it. It was then that he spotted the approaching Goddess, who then went on to greet him. Wonderful, so his little show had been enjoyed by someone else as well as himself.
"Greetings." His tone of voice was neutral, but he smiled warmly. He had been spending much more time than usual in the water lately, and so hadn't had much chance to socialise. It was always nice to meet fellow Gods though, and this one was very pretty indeed. Especially her wings. As a fan of rainbows, he could definatly appreciate those wings.

She babbled nonsense to herself the whole way, stopping only when she was close enough to talk comfortably. Then she raised her head and glanced at him. He was a big God, with a thick, fuzzy mane and beautiful fur.
She was so tempted to reach out and stroke it. So tempted.
"You're as pretty as we are!" She squeaked. "We're Rokopelli. Goddess of something or other. Who are you? Are you a friend of Juukie? Juukie likes the water too. He taught us swimming. We likeses the sea." She paused, drew in a deep breath and then folded her wings neatly at her sides.
"Um. Can we touch your fur. Please?" Her eyes got big and pleading.

Bahari'nswi continued to smile until the Goddess reached him. She was actually rather small compared to him, but then, she appeared to only be an adolescent, so it made sense. Also, this particular God was pretty much as big as Gods came.
When she spoke up, Bahari'nswi chuckled and nodded. "We agree, you are just as pretty as We are." It wasn't long before the God noted that the Goddess spoke the same way he did. Others had often said that his way of speaking was very strange, but he had never paid them any mind. It certainly didn't sound strange hearing that way of speaking from another.
"Pleased to meet you Rokopelli. We are Bahari'nswi, the fabulous God of Fish." As he said that, he arched his wing spines in an effort to look even more magnificent. "We are not sure who Juukie is, but We are pleased that you are fond of the sea. It is Our creations that make the sea so splendid. It would be rather boring without Our creations. Fun to swim in, not so fun to explore." He finished with a sage nod, as if his opinion of the sea was actually fact.
At Rokopelli's final question, Bahari'nswi grinned and nodded. "Of course." Saying that, he held out a paw for her to touch. He loved when others were impressed by him, he could never get enough of it.

Rokopelli had always been little and she always would be. She had a slight frame, delicate and tapered. She had a narrow face, slender legs and a tiny waist. Without her wings she looked almost looked fragile, but with the feathered appendages she seemed a little more bulked up.
She blinked prettily and took a small step back when she heard him referring to himself as ‘we’. Could it be she had found someone with her predicament? Another with two minds trapped in one body? Bahari and Nswi! Just like Roko and Pelli!
She was about to ask him all about it when he continued speaking, answering her previous questions. And she was impressed by his magnificence. All Gods were different in their own way, but Rokopelli herself was rather lion shaped – except for her wings. This God looked as if he were part lion, part fish. He had wonderful whiskers, elegant spines and such a curly, beautiful mane that it reminded her of the tickly seaweed that danced beneath the waves.
“The sea is perfectses.” Rokopelli chirped. “Fish nice too! Shiny and smooth. We don’t have no creations. Oh, except these.” And she lifted each forepaw in turn, showing off the golden snake bangles with sparkling gems in their eyes. “But we didn’t make these. Don’t even know where they came from.”
And then he held up his paw and she all but ‘squee-ed’ reaching out to pat it gently. The fur was wet, slick and smooth. Purring, she rubbed her cheek against his paw. “Pretty…”
And then she looked up at him. “How do you keep your fur so shiny soft? Is there a secret we don’t know?”

Bahari'nswi adored the way that Rokopelli spoke, despite the fact that her tone of voice and choice of words were rather cub-like. She was quite adorable. When she complimented his creations, the large God puffed up somewhat, ever proud of his domain and everything in it. "We like the sharks best. They're not really shiny or smooth, but they're fabulous regardless. Everything We make is magnificent in its own way." Bahari'nswi was definatly not above tooting his own horn.
"Your bangles are much nicer than Our necklace." He said with a nod, before motioning towards the shiny gold necklace that was mostly hidden by his mane. "If you ever remember where you got them from, you must tell Us." Honestly, the God of Fish couldn't quite remember where his own jewellery had come from either, so he didn't expect for Rokopelli to remember anytime soon. The fact that she couldn't even remember her own domain wasn't a good sign, but he didn't mind at all.
When she nuzzled against his paw, Bahari'nswi smiled warmly. Once again, he had found a Goddess who appreciated him completely, and that pleased him to no end. At her next question, the God chuckled and shook his head. "No secret. Our fur is just very well suited to being in the water. When it dries, it remains all shiny and pretty. Likewise, our mane remains thick and full-bodied. We are just special like that."

"We don't know sharks, but if you likses them then they must be good!" She nodded, taking his words all in her stride. Rokopelli took them in without feeling annoyed or irritated by his own confidence in his splendour. She believed him whole-heartedly when he said they were fabulous. Why would he lie when he himself was so sparkling and pretty?
And then the Goddess felt her conflicting minds intertwine, and the personality once held at bay came shining through, like the rays of the rising sun as it peeks over a valley-top.
"You have the prettiest mane ever, Bahari~!"
"Shh!"
"No!"
"I said shh!" Rokopelli shook herself as if trying to rid herself of a fly. Then she blinked and looked up at the God again. "We come from a sand place. Lots of sand like a golden sea! The sand here is nice, but different. Something to do with the water." She smiled. "Juukie taught us how to swim. He has magic just like we do!"
"Be quiet Pelli!"
"Why?"
"No magics."
Rokopelli stomped her foot. "Magics not bad." She blinked, cleared her vision and looked to the God again. "Is it, Bahari'nswi?"

Bahari'nswi nodded with enthusiasm. "They are very good. We are so glad We created them." At the small outburst that followed, the large God grinned widely. "Prettiest mane ever." The strange God had a habit of repeating statements about himself that pleased him the most. He didn't have much time to savour this particular compliment though, as Rokopelli continued to talk, seemingly to herself. Bahari'nswi raised a brow, curious as to what was happening. He decided to shake off the curiousity though, as he knew himself that it wasn't fun to be addressed about the way you speak. Rokopelli was just more unique than he had first thought.
"A sand place? You mean like a desert?" Bahari'nswi frowned a little. "We are not a fan of deserts. The lack of water upsets us greatly. It's hard to keep cool without water." The God hoped that his views on deserts didn't upset the Goddess. "For Us anyway. We are sure you are very happy living in the desert."
As the Goddess once again changed the subject, Bahari'nswi tilted his head slightly as he thought how best to answer. "Magics can be bad, if someone bad is using them." The God of Fish had been around for many many lifetimes. As a result, he had witnessed many different things to do with other Gods and their powers, some of which were bad. "We are good, therefore Our magics are used for good things." He smiled. "You are good, therefore your magics would be good as well."

Unique was one way of putting it.
Rokopelli always came across as a little mad to people who didn't understand what was going on in her head. Hell, she didn't even understand what was going on in her own head. All she knew was that there was always a little voice in the back of her mind, talking to her, interrupting her and pretty much constantly confusing her.
"A desert. Yep." She continued brightly, though faltered when he said he didn't like them that much. The comment didn't seem to affect her for long, however. It made sense! Besides, she liked water a lot now too and thinking of how little there was in the desert made her sad.
"We would miss the water now." Rokopelli continued. "That's why we like the sea...see? There's sand next to the water at the sea. Perfect."
And then he answered her question and a thrill of panic ran through her. For the first time, Pelli openly questioned her counterpart.
"Are we bad...Roko?"
"Yes."
"We can't be!"
"No, I mean no, we're not. Not bad, not good, not anything."
She blinked, looked up. "We're confused. How do you know we are good?"

Bahari'nswi chuckled and nodded. "Sand is much better when the sea is nearby. Sand on its own is not fun, whereas sand with water is. The sand here is much cooler underneath Our paws than it is when We walk through the desert. Fortunatly, We only rarely need to visit the desert."
Soon after, Rokopelli's mood shifted dramatically. She looked scared and confused, causing Bahari'nswi to tilt his head, a rather concerned looked on his face. "Are you alright?" When she spoke, the large God blinked, a very surprised look on his face. Now both of them were confused.
"How do We know you are good?" The God repeated, thinking that the answer should be quite obvious. "We just know." He then fell silent, which was very unusual for him. Something seemed to be wrong with this Goddess, but he couldn't quite figure out what it was. He was positive that she was good though, and so he once again lifted one of his paws and held it out. "Would you like a hug?" It wasn't often that the God so openly allowed others to get so close to him, but since Rokopelli appeared to be young, he felt as though a hug was in order.

She didn't hear his question of concern, didn't realise that she was confusing him as much as she was confusing herself. But she did hear his answer to her question and it filled her little heart with hope. So just because she was willing to kill her mother - or anyone who threatened her - didn't make her a bad person.
After all, if she used her powers to kill the bad people, she was doing the world a favour, right? ...Right?
"Thank you Bahari'nswi." She replied with a small chirp.
And young she was. Rokopelli had always been a child at heart, always been innocent, despite these rather un-innocent thoughts. She didn't understand that taking a life - even the life of a mean person - could be wrong. Or atleast, one part of her didn't. Pelli had no concerns about killing, but Roko did. Roko knew it was wrong.
But Pelli was the one in control now.
"A hug?" She peeped, blinking curiously. And then a smile came to her maw, a glittering, pretty smile. "Huuu~uug!" And she threw herself against his chest, nuzzling against it, holding him close just like a child with a giant teddy bear.
Yes. Hugs made everything better.
And again, born from the joy created by the hug, Roko managed to get another word in.
"You know, Bahari'nswi. We never met anyone who gave good hugses like you. Not even mummy Koya!" At the mention of her adopted mother her ears drooped a little. Where was the grey goddess anyway?

"You're very welcome." Bahari'nswi replied with a smile, waiting for the Goddess to accept his hug offer. She soon did, and the God couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction. She was quite adorable. Still smiling, he moved his paw around her back and patted her gently as she buried herself in his thick and flowing mane. It wasn't often that something outside of his own domain made him happy, but making Rokopelli feel better truely made him feel good inside.
At the hug compliment, Bahari'nswi nodded. "We like to think that We're good at most things. It pleases Us to know that hugging is yet another thing that We are good at." At the mention of her mother, the God of Fish looked down, almost struggling to spot the petite Goddess' face whilst she continued to enjoy the hug. "Ah, so you have a mother then. Where is she?"

She blinked and looked thoughtful for a moment. Where was Mummy Koya?
"Oh..." A pause. "We don't remember! She's grey and pretty and really nice. She saved us from being lonely. We was sad and scared cos of other Mummy but she made us feel safeses...then...then we went to a pride and that was where we last saw her."
Another blink. She was confusing herself now.
What pride was it again? Was it the pride by the sea? No...no she didn't think it was.
"Shut up Roko!"
"We had to leave. We did something bad." And her ears drooped.
The little Goddess stamped her paw and scrunched up her nose. She certainly didn't look impressed with her other half. That was the last time she let her get a word in.
