she's kind of a wimp, she can't let her own kid boss her around. it's not the his fault he was raised so terribly, it's no wonder he's turning out the way he is. i think it's hilarious that she took this to dr. phil, which was the only thing mildly entertaining about the clip.

Makes me want to smack the living crap out of the kid. It is partially the mother's fault too since apparently she never disciplined the kid. Gotta be their mother, not their friend.

Partially? I don't think you could blame a kid that young, and she's clearly a poor mother. It's unfortunate for the kid what kind of person he'll likely grow up to be.

This got posted on a WTF community I'm in on LJ yesterday or something.
I can't BELIEVE that kid has gotten that bad. If any of my sibling or I EVER lashed out at my mom, we'd be finding ourselves learning to write with the other hand from then on.
How do parents let their children turn into that?

Okay first off, you have to know the full story before blaming either the mother or the child.
The mother actually lost a daughter a couple years before that to brain cancer, a piece of her died with the girl and the boy never expressed sadness, anger or any emotion at all for nearly a year.
Then he suddenly became very aggressive and angry. Arguably it's the mothers fault for not getting her son to talk about the daughter, because he truly did need comfort at that time. You can also blame the mother for basically shutting down and no longer mothering her son.
Yet you also have to understand that the boy is also accountable for his own actions. Yes he's still a boy, but he's old enough to understand the differences between right and wrong. If you knew the whole story you'd know that the boy not only slapped his mother he also constantly tries to make people believe that she's an abusive monster, when in fact that's not true.
You'd also learn that the boy is a liar, on the show Dr. Phil told the boy he could no longer speak because of his constant lies. The boy also has a problem understanding that he is not the one who's in control, it's very clear when Dr. Phil yet again has a conversation with him about that point.
All in all, I think that boy is pretty much lost. He showed no remorse for hurting his mother, she should no desire to be his mother anymore. It's actually very sad, and they are both to blame for the entire situation.

just because you have your two boxes set up, one for right and one for wrong, doesn't mean you know what goes in what box. i still say the boy is too young to know what he's really doing, and he does need psychiatric help. the conditions which conspired against him to become the kind of person he currently is are definitely unfortunate, but he's responding to it like you'd expect someone to and now needs help with his problem. if he doesn't, he'll reach the age where he really will be fully accountable for his actions and still have his skewed sense of right and wrong and his tendency to try to manipulate people.
