[This is a free role-play meaning anyone can join in. Old friends of Chailyn are especially encouraged to drop by to see her but new friends would be wonderful as well!]

The hot summer sun of June made Chailyn feel rather lazy as she attempted to find something to do in the early morning. The air conditioner was broken and the house felt humid and sticky, so the Tale found herself looking for things to do outside. If she had been little, there probably would've been no hesitation to pick up the phone and try to find others to play with. But seeing as still hadn't told anyone she'd grown, she was feeling a little too nervous to call anyone.

Her mind wandered to the subtle argument she'd had yesterday with her mother. Against her wishes, she found a summer wardrobe resting in her room- a few swimsuits laying on her bed. The argument consisted mostly of Chai claiming she didn't need clothes because she found it impossible to explain her new hatred for looking like everyone else. Still she couldn't very likely go swimming in her current clothing so she'd given up trying to argue. She gave a nod of her head as she made up her mind to go to the beach. Whether she looked like everyone else or not, at least she wouldn't be sweltering hot.

It took her less than half an hour to get ready. Once her messenger bag was stocked with towel, cell phone, extra sun block, ponytail holder, and her journal, she set off for the beach. No siblings or mother in tow, at least for the time being. And though Anemone's house was right on the coast of Barton and she could've just gone there- she decided to head for Gambino instead.

Picking a spot that was nearly deserted, Chailyn flopped down on her towel dressed in a dark purple tankini and black flip flops. Her long hair pulled back in a braid and done up in a somewhat elegant bun, she probably wouldn't be very recognizeable to her old friends- except for her purple eyes, then again it was hard to say how many people had purple eyes- still without her stomach symbol they were almost all that was left of the old Chai unless one noticed her harem girl outfit peeking out of her bag.

Armel was there but no one could see him. He was some distance away covered by sand except for his face. Believe it or not this had been a prank, a prank pulled on him by some smart-alec five-year-old he was humoring, before the child’s parents pulled him away to go home. Armel glared up at the sky with a small frown, at least the parents could have uncovered him but they hadn’t. They left the ram-horned youth there covered by sand that seemed quite a bit heavier than it did earlier.

I Should’na ‘ave fallen asleep. The boy thought to himself, as obviously the five-year-old somehow had a license for a bulldozer and plopped a ton of sand on him or so it felt. He wriggled and the sand-pile cracked in places but he couldn’t seem to pull free.

“Uhhm, somebody ...? Anybody? ‘Elp!?” he called out after figuring out he could not do this alone.

As for how no one could possibly notice a boy trapped under sand ... Well he just looked like one of those random piles of sand on the beach that may have once been a sand structure at one point and had been worn away.

This certainly answered one of Armel’s quandaries, however, but that is a thought for another time when he is done being embarrassed over this particular situation.

A cry for help reached Chailyn's ears as she stared out at the water. She turned her head to look for the source but while there were plenty of people around most weren't near her and none seemed to be needing help. Still- she'd heard someone. With a bit of a shrug, she stood up slipping off her flip-flops and heading off to look for the person.

"Hello?" she called out after walking for awhile. She waited a moment, shifting her weight as she waited for an answer. Of course the only thing nearby was an apparently destroyed sandcastle. Deciding she'd wait until she heard the voice again, she headed to the sandcastle and sat down on her knees. "Maybe I should rebuild it while I wait?" Chailyn mused to herself.

She scooped up a handful of sand ready to begin shaping the sand when she thought she noticed a face. Or the profile of one. Raising an eyebrow, she twisted around and flopped down on her side staring at the apparent person trapped in sand.

She didn’t have to wait long in fact, the trapped head turned to look at her, with some difficulty; golden eyes stared at her in a pleading fashion. “Uh-uh, can ye help me out of ‘ere?” he said flushing lightly in his embarrassment. He wriggled a bit more forming a few more cracks but not quite getting anywhere.

“I did’na think I’d be buried for humorin’ a lil’ one.” He chuckled a little uneasily. “Seems ‘e got th’ better o’ me while I slept...” It was the only way he could explain it and not seem as if he was aware that he was the butt of a cruel toddler’s joke.

“Kids these days,” he added with a small mutter.

Chailyn went from being momentarily scared and startled to slightly amused. She pushed herself up and began to dig with her hands, not having thought to bring a pail or shovel with her...then again how would she have known she'd be digging someone out of the sand?

"Never sleep on the beach, kids will do anything..." she mused with a slight chuckle. Of course she never would've done that- then again some of her siblings were sure to have wanted to bury people in the sand. "How long have you been buried?" she asked as she continued digging.

Working mostly on moving the sand around on his first, at least then he'd be able to move his head. She paused for a moment, her memory slowly catching things. She'd only met Armel once- when she was smaller but so many things from then had become fuzzy. Still there was something familiar.

"I'm Chailyn, by the way," she introduced herself still pondering on if she could know the boy. She was so distracted with her thoughts she didn't notice the ram horns when she'd gotten the sand around his head cleared away.

His head was gradually freed allowing for him to move his shoulders more easily. As he wriggled a bit his bare shoulders shifted a lot of the sand off, “Mm, aye, kids are liable to do anythin’ I guess.” Armel laughed a bit, “Though I feel silly talkin’ like an ol’ man sometimes,” though on some days the ram-horned boy felt quite ancient.

“Not long, I think ... I hope.” It didn’t seem that long, as he had simply dozed and then awoke sometime later buried. He had little concept of time.

Chailyn ... Chailyn ... He had met a girl once named Chailyn. Wasn’t she Lance’s friend?

Yes, that’s it. He paused in his wriggling about and stared at her for a second and then nodded, “Yer Lance’s pretty friend. Dunno if ye remember me but I’m Armel. Ye certainly grew from what I remember, that is if yer that girl.”

Upon hearing Lance's name, her memory stirred. She'd gone to Lance's house once to meet his friend- a ram horned boy named Armel. Looking down at him, she noticed his horns and it dawned on her. "Armel?" she asked. She gave a laugh, "I didn't recognize you. I don't think you were so sandy last time," she teased gently.

She laughed as she moved the sand from one of his shoulders she nodded, "Mm, I grew. I'm still getting used to it- it's weird. I look like everyone else now," she murmured the last sentence rather sadly. She just couldn't get away from the conflicting emotions she felt about looking normal. A part of her felt very angry and hurt to look normal but the rest of her didn't really care.

She gave a slight shrug continuing her efforts to free Armel from the sand. "Once we get your arms free you should be able to get out," she thought aloud.

He scrunched his nose a bit, “Aye, I guess I wasn’t.” Armel gave a small chuckle as he wriggled a bit more to help give Chai an idea where his limbs and stuff are. He listened to her all the while and stopped wriggling and now stared at her, his golden eyes scanning her for a brief moment. He remained silent as he seemed to consider something before speaking again.

“Dunno if I’d say that, lass,” he muttered softly, “Ye’ve pretty purple eyes and lovely long brown hair. I don’ think ye’d want to change that f’the world. Sides there are ways to change your appearance if’n ye ‘ave the mind to, I am sure.” Armel felt his arms become freed shortly after Chai had stated her thought out loud.

Now with his arms free he pulled up his hands and began to sit up with some effort. “Thank ye, lass. Ye ‘ave m’gratitude, how about I treat ye to some ice cream or somethin’?”

Her eyes flickered a moment- something rising inside. Closing her eyes briefly, Chailyn forced the feelings down. She would not let it- herself snap over something as silly as the color of her hair. With a bit of smile, she nodded. "I suppose that's true. Thanks Armel."

She was quiet a moment pondering things as he sat up. A bit of a smirk appeared on her lips as she imagined getting a tattoo to replace her stomach symbol- her mother would love that. And yet, the thought of her mother's anger about a tattoo seemed to take her mind from her normal looks and cheer her up.

Snapping back to Armel, she nodded. Why not? She couldn't remember the last time she'd had ice cream. "You're welcome. And ice cream would be nice." Standing up, she offered her hand to Armel to help him stand. Perhaps going out and meeting old friends wasn't so bad after all?

Armel, naturally, was unaware that he had said something that was unwelcome for he had perceived it merely as a compliment. At least it is how he meant it to be. Still he was looking himself over dusting the sand off of his torso and arms, but no matter what he did the sand was too wet to actually come off all the way. Not that he cared either way. It felt a little comforting to be covered and seemingly coveted by the children of the Earth Element and so he gave up.

With Chailyn’s help he got to his feet and he released the girl’s hand going a couple of paces away until finding a plain white shirt and slipping it on. He made sure his black trunks were still in one piece and then slipped on a pair of black flip-flops. “Okay, then, let’s get some ice cream.” He starts forward before pausing to kneel thrust a hand into the sand and then pulling out a wallet. “Almost forgot this. Kid buried it.”

How he knew could be chalked up to witnessing the act before drowsing off to sleep. Armel moved to stand next to Chai as he double checked the contents of his wallet. “Everythin’ is still there.” He muttered to himself.

"He buried your wallet? I hope I never run into him." She shook her head gently, that kid sounded worse than any she'd ever met or run into. Though she wasn't sure she would've let the kid bury her in the first place. However, with the wallet stealing issue- she was unsure if she should leave her bag even if the kid had left.

Holding up a finger to ask Armel to wait a moment, she went back to her bag- making sure there was nothing important in it before she remembered, that she hadn't brought her allowance or any money- just her cell phone. Slipping it out, she shoved it in a pocket of some denim shorts before pulling them on- just in case she got a call, though she doubted she would since no one but her mother knew her number- save Lance.

Trudging back to Armel, "I didn't want to forget my cellphone but I'm afraid I forgot to bring any money," she added a bit quietly. True he hadn't asked that she pay or if she had any money- but she still felt a little silly forgetting it.

He waited patiently stretching out his arms and yawning. Despite the prank it was a decent nap, at least the child left him a space to breath and all that, so he couldn’t become angry no matter what all happened before Chailyn came to his rescue. Armel’s stomach grumbled plaintively and he just rubbed it muttering under his breath, “Soon, soon.”

He looked up at his friend as she approached him and he simply waved a hand dismissively, “My treat, lass, don’nae worry about it,” he grinned at her offering his arm to Chailyn. “Would ye do me th’ honor of escorting ye?” Armel could be charming if he wanted to be.

Taking Armel's arm, Chailyn pondered about what kind of ice cream she'd like. It took her a moment to settle on strawberry before her mind wandered- she wanted to know what the other Tales were up to. "Have you seen any of the other Tales lately?" she asked- not really caring who he'd see if anyone. Still it was all she could think of talking about.

Outwardly, her life was dreadfully boring- much too boring to find anything to talk about. Inwardly, her mind was confused- much too confused to try to talk to anyone about her feelings or thoughts. So what better subject to turn to.

If she'd been wearing her veil she could've made a joke about feeling like a princess- but perhaps it was better that she wasn't. Her thoughts sometimes felt like they belonged to someone else and "princess" may have upset her current thoughts.

Armel took in the question as he walked arm-in-arm with Chai and he shrugged a shoulder idly before he responded, "One jus' recently, but she is a lil' new, I guess? At least she was new t'me. Then I meet with Khalindra a little before that," he breathed out a sigh, "other than that it seems things are quiet for now..."

"What about you? Anythin' new with you, lass?" he queried as his mind ran over his options in ice cream, he was simply trying to hold a conversation with a girl he believed to be his friend despite their one time meeting. "Want t'do anything after the ice cream, maybe a movie or somethin'?"

"I saw Lance shortly after I grew. I expected to see Nalira..." Chailyn trailed off, sighing sadly, "but she left before I woke up." She gave a shrug, not really wanting to elaborate on the matter. It still stung quite a bit to have awoken to find her friend, her sister, gone with only a note left to say good-bye. "Truth is, I'm rather nervous about seeing most of the Tales- it feels odd to be older," she admitted with a soft blush. It sounded so incredibly stupid to be nervous.

Turning her mind to his next question, she pondered a moment. "A movie would be great. I've never been to a movie theater, we always have to wait until they come out on DVD to watch at home. I'm not sure a row of seats at one would fit my family," Chailyn laughed at the thought of trying to stuff the large group into one row and all the trips to the bathroom one would have to make, not to mention the soda and popcorn and candy. It'd be rather close to a nightmare and yet the thought was entertaining- so much that it pushed away her "moodiness" letting the real Chailyn shine through.
