Ariel landed in the clearing with the same grace that her mother was well known for. It was such a lovely day and she wanted to bring joy to those around her. What better way than to play with the foals? She hadn't been an adult very long so she still felt a bit of a kinship with the little ones. Besides, she liked making them laugh and smile as much as possible. They brought such life to the land. How could anyone be blue around such happy, youthful energy? Not that she was blue. Oh no, Ariel had never experienced any real sadness in her life, at least nothing more than the loss of a small pet frog she had as a foal. She had learned though that it was how life worked. Creatures come and creatures go, you simply had to make the best of it and always think positively.

"Oh, I have a wonderful story to tell today," she called out in the clearing, hoping to interest some of the foals. She wouldn't be surprised if they chose to run about instead. If so, she could always join them, but she did love to tell her tales so much. What good was it to think them up if no one was there to listen? "It's of a dashing stallion and a mare in distress and of the big bad kalona villain." She loved all the races and sometimes, even the occasional kalona foal would come up to listen to her talk. It was for that reason that she even played the villains with some level of awe and respect. The naughty ones needed their heroes too!

((No real posting order as I totally welcome random foal interactions and whatnot!))

While her family had stopped to rest from their travels. Darma had slipped away from them to explore. Really, she had no want to rest. She was always on the go. Always wanting to explore. There was just too many things to see in this world and not enough time it seemed. She hadn't gone far though. About within ear shot distance in case her mother or father decided it was time for her to come back to them. Though if she was gone too long her father might go a bit crazy. He was fairly protective and a bit over bearing of her wandering ways.

Coming to a clearing, she poked her nose around a couple of trees. Brownish red eyes widening as a Soquili with multiple wings touched down to earth not far away from where she was. She was so pretty! And--Darma had never seen this kind of Soquili before. Of course, curiosity got the better of her and before she knew it the filly bounded out from the trees towards the mare. Her tail flicking back and forth in excitement. "Story?" Tilting her head sideways, she looked up at the larger mare. Curious filled eyes. She had heard many stories from her parents, but it seemed like this story that the mare was offering would be something different. Well, she'd just have to stick around and see now!

The little unicorn had wandered away from her family. . again. But of course, as far as Zara was concerned, they had Rupali and Miki to worry about! With one shy as a button and the other lost with her head in the clouds, they had to spend all their time minding with the pair of them were up to. But not Zara, oh no. The young filly couldn't help but think of herself as the boldest of the trio, which in fact she was, as well as the most adventurous! As a growing lady one had to be knowledgeable about their world. . . And that's exactly what she was planning on doing!

She would learn everything and therefor when she grew she would know it all. And that's exactly what she wanted to do. Bright and chipper, the young, blue-haired filly moved carefully through the long grasses. Just because she was bold, mind you, didn't mean she was excused from getting dirty. Yuck. The boys and less graceful fillies her age could spend their time rolling in mud or splashing in puddles . . . Not Zara!

She was too beautiful for dirt, thanks, or so she liked to imagine.

Head held proud, her little tail swishing back and forth, a voice in the distance caught her attention. Two little pink ears pricked as some mare enticed those around her with, what luck, a story! Double treasure, not only was it a story to be heard of, but the mare herself was absolutley lovely! There were more wings on this stranger than she'd ever imagined possible and she was white as snow! Intrigued (as she'd never seen a winged soquili before) the little one made sure she beelined it towards Ariel's direction, not at all afraid.

As the daughter of a gypsy, stories were something the little filly adored. A shame Miki hadn't joined her . . . her younger sister seemed to adore stories the most between Rupali and herself. Step by step, the little one bit back the urge to run up to Ariel with excitement - oh no. She wanted to make her entrance look gooooood. . . and she did, step by step, proper as ever.

Despite her most lady-like approach, her eyes gleamed with good humor and delight. "Does the lady get to be rescued? And is the dashing prince really quite dashing?" Ooooh, she wanted to know! There were many stories about ladies and knights and princes and evil kalona's but . . . . but maybe this was one she hadn't heard yet. "And is the mare in distress really a princess in disguise!?" Her little tail swished faster in excitement, and Zara couldn't help but dance from hoof to hoof. The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to know!

((Edit: Sorry Yayoi! Didn't see you posted. x3 ))

User ImageWith a rustle in a nearby bush a tiny light lavender and pale pink head popped up and looked over toward where others seemed to be gathering. Had she heard right? that there was to be a story? head tilting to one side and hot pink eyes watching the VERY large mare with many wings the small usdia watched a little wide eyed at the sight. What kinda of 'giant' was this? She had heard of winds from her mother whom used to live with a couple, a mated pair infact. Though this one was completely strange, maybe someone had pulled a prank on a wind and attached more wings? No, then it wouldn't have been able to fly like it had. This was all too confusing to the filly as she tumbled head over hooves from the bush and into the clear.

"Story?" She echoed after another had spoken, though looked again to find yet another had appeared while she had had her back turned. "where you guys come from?" The small usdia asked the Uni and other filly whom were there for the story.

Curious it was as Melos rolled over and plotted over toward the larger foals, craning her neck a little to glance up at them. Even for their age and all, Melos was still smaller then them, not that it was a bad thing. After being talked to by an older of her own kind, she came to realize that maybe being small wasn't 'that' bad... Right. Looking from side to side, though right now she really felt..., dwarfed...

He wasn't sure what compelled him to near the growing group. The mare looked too nice. Annoying nice. The kind of nice that would probably jump on you every time you did something wrong. He hated that kind of nice. However, the idea of a villainous kalona was too interesting to resist. He had never been told a story before, at least not one that was clearly made up. It wouldn't hurt for him to give the mare a little bit of his attention.. just to find out more about the kalona in the story. Besides, his father told him to try to be open to the other races. That closing your mind could come back to haunt you later. Not that he had a clue what the heck that meant! If his dad said it though, it must be true.

He made a face when he realized that the other foals nearby were girls. Blech. He didn't want to be surrounded by females. One of them kept asking questions. Damnation found himself wondering how she found time to breathe. At least the other one was quiet enough. He wasn't sure what was up with the third. She was tiny. In fact, she was the smallest foal he had ever seen. It was as if she forgot to grow.

He kept himself a little further away from the mare and foals but still close enough to listen in on the story. He didn't want to be caught standing next to one of those blasted girls.

Ouriel shoved his way through the trees as quietly as possible, looking curiously into the clearing with wide, dark eyes. He didn't sneak away from his family, of course not - merely taken a detour! He would join them later, once he had heard this... story. He gazed expectantly towards Ariel at first, but soon began to look around at the other foals. They looked normal enough - lots of girls - though one had funny leathery wings. Ouriel snorted gently at the sight of them and ruffled the feathers of his own four wings. He did not understand what Kalonas were, and simply saw the other boy as a competitor in flashiness.

As Ariel paused, he stepped out of his tree-cover and into the clearing with the others, his nose wrinkled. He simply had no response to the violence that Raphael endured. Raynia was told not to see the other. "That's stupid," he muttered ambiguously, folding his wings on his back.

Ariel was quite pleased with the turnout. Why, there was a unicorn, a regular, a kalona and even a usdia! She had heard of the usdias but had never actually seen one before. The little female was the most adorable thing she had ever seen.

"My, my, what a wonderful audience I have here today. I do believe this is the best group of foals I have ever seen. Why, could any of you girls be any more fair? I think not. And you, what a dashing little kalona you are. I bet you could scare away others with just a look. Yes, this is an exceptional audience!" The mare spread out her wings and lowered herself to bow at the kids. "My name is Ariel and what I have for you today is a tragic love story."

The mare folded her wings back and began to tell her story. "Once upon a time there were two foals, Raynia and Raphael. They were from different families and of different races. Raynia was a unicorn and Raphael was a regular. Raynia's parents forbade her to see Raphael for he was considered a lesser race. Her family was very strict. Raynia was told how to act, who she could talk with and was only allowed to play for one hour every day. She was a very sad foal."

"Raphael, however, was raised in a different manner. He was taught to be open to everyone. To treat everyone as if they were his friend. He was playful and never judged others harshly. Though the family wasn't very popular, not the prettiest, they were certainly known for being the nicest. That was how Raynia and Raphael came to meet."

The mare lowered her head to wink at the girls. "Raphael fell in love with Raynia even though they were just foals. He knew that she was the one for him. He saw her playing by herself in a little meadow and was captivated by her beauty and disheartened by her loneliness. Knowing no better, he approached her and asked her to play. Though she knew it was wrong, she accepted on the spot, happy to have a playmate for a few minutes. When she smiled, Raphael's heart skipped a beat. He knew then that he would do anything to see her smile as often as possible."

"They played for a short time but then Raynia's father came to check on her. When he saw her playing with Raphael, he became furious! How dare a daughter of his play with a no-good like that! He ordered Raynia to run home to her mother and she did so without hesitating until she was a safe distance away, crying as she went. The unicorn turned his attention on to the little colt and beat him for the disgrace he had caused to his family. He beat Raphael until the little foal could barely make his way home. What he did not know was that Raynia had stopped in the distance and watched her new friend suffer. She blamed herself for it. She promised herself that she would never talk or play with Raphael again."

Ariel paused momentarily to see how the foals were taking the story so far. The new boy that seemed to join the circle was most interesting. He had multiple wings. Was he of angeni blood?

((Just pretend this was before the last post. XD ))

Darma glanced around at the other foals. One was really really small! Did it leave its basket too early or something? Was that why it was so short? She would have to ask her mother later.

Her attention quickly turned back to Ariel. A small smile on her lips as she listened closely to the story as it began. Not noticing the arrival of the other colt. She was to intregued so far by this tale. But as the older female went farther into it, she started associating herself with some parts of the characters so far. Her heart sunk though as the story reached to a heart breaking scene. "So mean!" She cried out, her ears flicking back. In all honesty, she couldn't understand why Raphael and Raynia couldn't play together. Raynia's father must of been one big meanie to keep them apart like that. Darma herself would have just run away with Raphael if her father ever acted like Raynia's father. Just because he was different...or something like that.

Having turned away from the other girls, Melos looked back toward the two that sat a fair distance away, both boys. What was up with them? Weren't they going to listen as well? Tilting her head to the side she plotted over toward the Kalona and other many winged cold, staring up at them. Her two toned tail twitching behind her as she momentarily forgot about the larger mare that had started her story.

"What's the matter? too scared to join us?" she grinned before turning around and prancing back to sit wide eyed at the story. "Why would a Daddy do that? If he was mine, I would kick back." She nodded sharply, though came to think that her father would possibly hit back to punish her in return. This thought made her shiver.

Ouriel's ears twitched as the one of the smaller foals insulted his person. "No," he hissed. To prove his point, he trotted quickly over to Melos and sat directly beside her. He glanced at her from the corner of his eye, then turned away, gazing determinedly at a spot somewhere to Ariel's left.

"Anyway," he said loudly, "what did Raynia do after that?"

Now the story was getting somewhere! All that talk of love was enough to make him sick. Though he felt sad that Raphael got a beating, it was better than the love mush that was going on before. He'd much rather see that unicorn father get his butt kicked instead. Perhaps this was what his father meant by being open minded. Not judging others based on their race. The last thing he wanted to be like was Raynia's father. While he seemed evil enough, it didn't seem right for a stallion to beat on a little foal. He certainly wouldn't want some stallion beating up on him and when he grew up, he'd never beat on a foal. Only those the same size as him!

Movement caught his attention and he turned to the side. He was no longer the only boy as another joined the group. He had a strange look to him. His eyes were as dark as night and his wings were something Damnation had never before seen. Oh well, at least it was another boy.

When the littlest girl came forth and tried to start up a conversation, the little kalona bunched up his face as if he had eaten something sour. "Too scared to grow?," he quipped back. Girls always weirded him out. At least all but his sister. After a moment though, he found himself answering her real question, "I don't know. My daddy would never do that," he said with pride.

Damnation wouldn't admit it but he was curious to find out what happened with Raynia and Raphael too and turned his attention back towards the mare.

Ariel smiled as some of the foals began to talk amongst themselves and question the story. She liked that the story was making them think. If it could open their minds up a little bit to the prejudices of others, it would be nice. Foals were much more intelligent than most adults gave them credit for.

"Well, days turned into weeks and weeks turned into seasons. In no time, the two had grown into beautiful adults. The two had not spoken to one another since that fateful day, long ago. Oh, Raphael tried. He was not one to take a beating lightly. Every day since he was a foal, he would try to visit Raynia but she would turn him away every time. She refused to have anything to do with him. This saddened Raphael a great deal for his love for her had never wavered. One day, the visits just stopped. Raphael accepted defeat and believed that Raynia had become similar to her father and that all hope was lost."

"What he did not know was that Raynia had always liked Raphael, and when he had grown, her feelings towards him had become more than friendship. She found him to be the most handsome stallion in all the land and when she was alone at home, she would often daydream of running away with him and being his mate. She had stayed away from him because she was scared that her father would only hurt him more, possibly even kill him and the idea of causing Raphael pain was enough to break her own heart."

"It seemed that these two souls were destined to be apart but fate had another plan. That winter, a Kalona moved into the land. Oh, he was black as sin and bigger than any other stallion had ever been. His eyes glowed red and some whispered that at night, the tendrils of his hair would turn into black vipers and they'd grab at your legs and pull you towards the stallion. It was said that he had a fondness for eating the flesh of other soquilis." The mare's eyes went wide with fright as she told the part about the kalona. "His name was Azrael but they dared not whisper it, for saying his name out loud was inviting him to your home for dinner, and you would be the dinner!"

"All the families in the land became frightened of Lord Azrael. He knew it and he made good use of it. Every season he would visit a random family and demand one of their daughters. He'd take that daughter home and sacrifice her to his demon lord. Some say he bathed in the blood of these poor girls and ate out their hearts. One by one, a mare was chosen and killed. It got to the point that a new season brought sadness about the lands instead of joy like it used to."

"The following winter, Azrael made his way to Raynia's home. He spoke with her father and demanded his eldest daughter. The unicorn did not put up a fight. He was too frightened. I suppose fighting a foal is much different than fighting something far bigger and scarier than he was. He ordered his daughter forth and told her to go with the Kalona. Though Raynia did not want to go, she followed without question. Such was her way for she had given up her life long ago, feeling she would never know what it was like to be truly happy. In some ways, she was thankful for the prospect of death."

Ariel paused once more to let the story sink in.

Her little frown deepened a bit more. How could someone just give up like that? If Raphael liked Raynia as much as he did...they should of just run away with each other! Darma wished she could just jump right into the story and tell them to stop being silly and be together. They loved each other, so why not?

The fillies mind was running wild with the story. Putting herself almost in Raynia's place. That kind of love was something most little fillies dreamed about when they grew up. Finding a strong, handsome stallion that loved you back. How nice it was for Raynia.

As soon as Ariel went into the part with the Kalona, she shook lightly. The filly had been told stories about some Kalona and this Kalona seemed to be the embodiment of those stories. But a bit more civilized. "Wheres Raphael? Why doesn't he save her? Meanie head Kalona, leave Raynia alone!" She stomped a tiny hoof. Now she was really getting into it. Perhaps a bit too much.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 04, 2008 10:37 am

An ear had twitched back to the kalona behind her before she turned her head to look back at him. Her eyes narrowed, giving him a somewhat leveled look. Though not speaking she stuck her tongue out at him, before turning back to the story. This was getting fairly interesting, and very scary for the most part and she shimmied a little closer to the group.

"I wouldn't go with the meanie kalona, I would give him a one two and send him back to where he came from." Melos stomped, though she stomped a couple of times infact. "But... I don't get why one would want to eat the heart of another, isn't grass and berries enough?" Head tilting slightly she looked again at the Kalona behind her, "Ain't it?"

She hadn't really seen nor really heard of the breed before and though they were the same as everyone else. Though with bad tempers and glowy eyes and stuffs like that. Were they really 'that' mean to eat another creature? Shivering again she thought how her mother's otter familiar ate clams and fish... That wasn't the same, no this Kalona sounded more dangerous then the fuzz ball back home.
