It was a windy day. If one watched closely they could almost see it as it swept through the trees, rustling the leaves before making it's way down to tickle the flowers. It was a beautiful day as well. The sun was out and the birds were singing. Spring was upon us and summer was right around the corner. The stallion that stood in the clearing was beautiful as well. He was the whitest of white and the blackest of blacks at the same time. His hair curled slightly and blew in the wind.

Upon his face was a skull mask, held in place from the horns that jutted out of his head. Spikes adorned his body and his wings were folded back, two pairs that were nothing alike. One was darker and crimson tipped, almost as if blood stained. He was much like his parents, except he did not feel any pain from the spikes that plagued him.

If any dared take a closer look at the stallion they'd notice one solitary red hoof. That was his favorite. That was the one he used to crush the life out of the animals he came in contact with. In fact, laying beneath that very hoof was the carcass of a mountain lion, recently killed. It had been a decent challenge but it wasn't as fulfilling as it used to be. The stallion was growing tired of killing the same creatures over and over again.

Gabriel was not an ordinary stallion. Even from his extraordinary family, he stood out. He had no emotions. No ambitions. He simply had a desire to kill. To hurt. It was the closest thing he could find to actually enjoying anything out of life. He wasn't depressed, oh no. To be depressed one must feel something. Gabriel felt nothing. He didn't even love his family. As beautiful as he was on the outside, he was twisted, ugly and empty within.

Glitter skipped and darted amongst the flowering bushes and branches of the trees as she made her way to the clearing. She burst out of the wood, tossing her multicolored mane backwards as she raced into the flowers. She slowed to a trot as she noticed another form some distance off. She smiled as she admired the pure white of his body - for certainly it was a male from his stance- and the elegance of his wings. He looked so like an angel even from this distance; she could hardly keep herself from picking up the pace to meet him. She skipped along, the sun dancing off of her like another of the flowers that she waded through.

She gave pause as she neared and her heart began racing. He looked less like an angel and more like Doom Incarnate as she neared. He undoubtedly had seen her, she was close now. There was no sense in running. She smelled blood around him and her stomach churned. What was this? Death disguised as Beauty? Her legs felt unsteady but she set her jaw firmly as she determinedly approached the male. She would show no weakness, despite the sinking dread she was now feeling. What did she get into? The wind began howling ominously through the tree tops as she met his icy gaze. She took a breath to steady herself.

She forced a smile to hide her trepidation. The smell of blood hung in the air despite the breeze and she felt sick. She took another breath. "I am Glitter." Her voice trembled slightly and she hoped he hadn't noticed. "I saw you here among the flowers..." She fidgeted under the gaze of his frigid blue eyes. "I hoped..." Her voice trailed away and she fought the urge to run.

"Heh".

It wasn't a real laugh. More like a sound. A response. Perhaps he was shocked that something like her was stupid enough to approach him. She was full of energy and reminded him of a foal, though she was clearly full grown. Flowers? he turned his head to look around. Ah, there were flowers scattered about. He never noticed such things. He never cared. They were simply there and for the most part, useless.

"You hoped for what?", he asked. If the damn fool was going to start saying something, she might as well finish it. He was not known for his patience. Shaking his head, he stepped off the body that was hidden beneath his hooves and grass. There was no point in staying on the damned thing when it was quite thoroughly dead by now.

It finally donned on him that she was pink. Pink. How the hell did any living creature manage to come out pink? It was unheard of, or at least it had been until now. There were other colors on her that didn't make sense to him either. "Did a rainbow piss you out?," he asked. His voice lacked any emotion to it, even that of general curiosity.

She curled her lip up in disgust as he revealed the bloodied carcass of some hapless creature that he'd utterly destroyed. The smell was overpowering and Glitter took an involuntary step backward. She furrowed her brow as she considered his words, wondering what it was that she had hoped when she first laid eyes on him. What had she thought on first noticing his silhouette among the flowers? This creature was far removed from whatever hopes she might have had when seeing him from afar, this creature that was so obviously dead inside. His lack of emotion startled her, but pity kept her steady.

"I hoped you were something more," she said evenly, her confidence growing. "I saw you and thought you an Angel for a moment, but that moment was fleeting. You are no angel. Just a soulless monster." Her multicolored hair swirled about her in the wind and she flicked her tail absently as she trained her lavender eyes upon the stallion. He hadn't given her a name and she thought vaguely that perhaps a creature without a soul would be without a name as well. The idea brought a smile to her face. "A pity, I must say. I truly feel sorry for you." She knew her words were bold- probably too bold- and she planted her hooves firmly, shifting her weight to better facilitate an escape if the need arose.

She pawed the ground with her front hoof in irritation as he insulted her color. Ah, if only her father were here! He might show this rash stallion a thing or two about the strength that could hide in a pink wrapper. She gritted her teeth, but had no reply for him.

"An angel?, I suppose you would be stupid enough to believe that. One of those halfwits that think something pretty must be nice and something ugly must be evil. Even the cutest animals can be poisonous or deadly. Oh, I'm an angel all right, as far as appearances go. But here you are, a fool pitying someone far more intelligent than you, or at least not lacking in common sense. Indulge me, in what way do you feel sorry for me? Oh, it must be because I don't stop to smell the flowers. Or smile at the sight of a baby fawn learning to walk. I am not like you so I must be less of a creature. I must be something to pity, to feel sorry for? Is that it? Further proof of your ignorance. You wouldn't even be worth my pity, if I could feel such a thing."

Gabriel turned his head to scan the area. It was quiet. The mare really was stupid to come out here all alone. He had been yearning to know what it was like to kill a soquili. "If you had an ounce of sense, you'd turn and leave," he commented. He didn't expect her to go. She probably thought she was on some crusade. Mares like her seldom realized when they were really in danger.

To make it more clear he turned and kicked the mountain lion carcass in her direction.

She ground her hoof into the earth angrily. "I feel sorry for you because for all your words and so-called intelligence, you still will go through life never knowing love or passion. You lack any emotion at all. Tell me, do you enjoy life? Or are you left without satisfaction of any kind? Will you ever know happiness or joy? Or merely emptiness and detachment from the world around you? I pity you because you are empty. I can see that plainly." Her voice was strong and heated, but she gasped and let out a shriek when he kicked the carcass towards her. She jumped back a pace, but set her feet firmly once more. She wouldn't waste her time feeling embarrassed at her weakness.

"How can you declare yourself to be more intelligent than I when I obviously experience life on a different level than you? I know things that you can not possibly know because you are too self-absorbed to feel anything!" She was nearly yelling at him, the growing sense of danger heightening her excitement. Her hooves tapped the ground alternately and she backed away a few more steps, pacing slightly before the intimidating and beautiful stallion. What a waste, she thought, that something so handsome should be so wicked.

Gabriel curled his lip in a mockery of a smile. "You speak of those things as if they are worth feeling. You are full of assumptions today, aren't you? Why would I want to feel love or passion? If I want to rut a mare, I will rut a mare. Love is a waste of everyone's time. Also, why do you think life is meant to be enjoyed? If it was meant to be so enjoyable, why would bad s**t happen to everyone? Have you ever looked around you? Have you ever really looked at all the horrible things that happen to those both innocent as well as guilty? Whatever gave you the idea that life was meant to be enjoyed? You share a common, misguided view of our existence. I do not need your pity for being free from that nonsense."

Gabriel was sure that even if he had feelings, his opinion of life would not change. He was a watcher after all and he took note of the tiniest details, many that were missed by others. "Life is a challenge, nothing more. The strong survive, the weak die. Those, like you, live between the two. Hiding from the things that make them stronger, that makes their life really worth living. They believe in having families and chasing butterflies. They live from what fleeting moments they can enjoy because as far as the big picture goes, their life is worthless. They cling to love, they cling to whatever happiness they can and when they don't have it, they feel like their life has no meaning. You know there's truth in my words. Life can have meaning without those things. Life should have meaning without those things. I don't need nor want your pity. It's misplaced, I assure you."

He wasn't surprised at her personality though, nor the fact that she was one of those type of mares. She certainly looked the part so why shouldn't she act it as well?

"You're wrong," she said evenly. "I hide from nothing. The bad things of the world happen to all without exception. Horrible things happen to make us stronger and add to our spirits. I accept that and have made it my mission in life to aid those not strong enough yet to see these things through alone and I am stronger for it." She stood steadily, her voice once again under control. She thought of her mother, so strong and a beacon of hope to all who need her. Glitter's head was high, her chest out in pride. Family made her stronger, and love was the guiding force in life. To live alone was weakness, as she saw it. The soquili that surrounded her added to and enhanced her own traits, giving her a richer experience of life and support in hard times. How could this be weakness?

"If you are truly free from this "nonsense" then tell me, what is your drive in life? What is your purpose that you feel is so superior to mine? To merely exist? What is the point if you care about nothing? What can you possibly hope to gain? I think you are afraid to feel. Those with feelings of love can be hurt, so you've destroyed any chance of it, isn't that right?" She narrowed her eyes slightly, trying to figure out the imposing stallion. She couldn't believe he really had no emotions at all, but if he had any, he hid them remarkably well. She was playing with fire here, she knew, but she'd placed a decent enough distance between the two that she felt she could escape if the stallion charged. "You're the one hiding from the things that would make you stronger."

"No, I'm not," he replied calmly, "you are in denial. Horrible things happen to kill you. It's impossible to become stronger when you are dead. If you live, maybe there's a possibility that you could learn from it in a way to become strong, but I've seen the majority live the rest of their lives out in fear. I suppose it's easy for you to talk about things. I doubt anything horrible has ever happened to you. I could change that." He turned to face her and swished his tail behind him menacingly. How easy it would be to pierce her with his horns. To crush down on her with his hooves and slash her with the spikes on his legs. To whip her with his spiked tail.

"I have no hopes. I need no reason to exist. If I were afraid to feel, I'd have felt something as a child at least to my mother and father. Something would have happened to instill that fear into me. One does not have a fear without an experience to cause it. No, my little ignorant rainbow, it has never existed in me to begin with. Why is that so hard to believe? Is it easier to believe that I am afraid? That I can be changed? How very unicorn-like of you. You might as well accuse me of being afraid of a kitten or butterfly. Oh, how about the rock behind you? Should I be afraid? Granted, I have never felt anything before that I can remember, I'd imagine that you'd have to have knowledge about something to be able to be afraid of it."

She simply did not get it. He wasn't surprised. She was pretty clueless, after all.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 18, 2008 5:01 pm

She furrowed her brow at him, unsure how to proceed. She couldn't argue that nothing truly horrible had ever happened to her or anyone close to her, but that shouldn't affect her perceptions of the world and why such things happened. His open threat sent a shiver down her spine, but she held her ground. She was terrified of the powerful stallion, but she was more afraid to run. Many predators were more inclined to attack if there was a chase, and armed with that knowledge she set her jaw firmly and looked him square in the eye. She hoped she held his gaze firmly enough that he wouldn't see her shaking.

"There has to be some sort of reason that you don't feel. Maybe you aren't afraid, but something has to be going on inside of you. I can't accept that you have NO feelings. What about desire? Hatred? There has to be something." She didn't know why it should matter to her. This stallion was beyond her help and she knew it, yet stubbornly and rather recklessly she stayed. Her heart raced within her and she was tense, waiting for the moment she would need to escape him. She found the stallion truly repulsive, but the sense of danger here was exhilarating. She was growing to hate him, but was fascinated at the same time. Suddenly, she felt she needed to know who he was. "What is your name?"

He wasn't sure how to take her questions. He had been honest thus far and there was no reason to stop. He took a moment to think them over, clawing at the ground idly as he did so. A forced smile came over him and he walked closer to her and breathed on her neck. He could tell she was scared, nervous or both. "You need not continue to worry on that level, if you had been. I do not feel desire in a sexual way. I never have and I don't expect it to spring up any time soon. The only desire I have ever felt has been the need to know what it's like to kill one of my own kind. Hatred, no. I have a natural dislike for all living things. One would have to do something to become hated. One would have to feel something to be able to hate."

He paused briefly when she asked for his name. How he disliked that question. Disliked to be reminded of the 'legacy' that was handed down to him. An inherited name, one that was meant to have meaning and purpose. It didn't suit him one bit. "I am called Gabriel." He showed no interest in knowing the mares name, though she'd probably offer it anyhow. She seemed the polite sort, heh. As far as he cared, Rainbow suited her just fine.

His smile chilled her to the bone and his breath on her neck caused her to jump. As he spoke her eyes widened in complete fear. He wanted to hurt his own kind..... She trembled uncontrollably and hoped she was not a worthy enough target for his violence. She took a few involuntary steps away from him. Being near him chilled her, even in the bright sun. She felt an unnatural cold creeping around her like death and shook her head against the thoughts. She was being foolish.

"Gabriel..." she repeated. She would know that name for the remainder of her days, she knew it. "I take my leave of you Gabriel. Whatever it is you intend to do with your life is your business. I'm done with it." She forced her voice not to quiver. She tried to sound confident, as though she were merely bored with him and not nearly as terrified as she actually felt. She took a few more backwards steps, back in the direction she had come from, making a mental note to approach others more cautiously.
