The Oracles by Maximum_Ride_Wings
It all began with an orphanage. It wasn't a magical one, nor a haunted one. It was just an orphanage.
"Oh, yes. All the children are well behaved and adoptable." The orphanage caretaker explained, showing the couple around.
The two were very excited to be there. to finally get the child they've always wanted. One of them, the man, was tall, had light brown hair, and blue eyes. The other one, the woman, was slightly short, had blonde hair in a tight braid that hung to her waist, and brown eyes.
"So, we could pick any child we want, correct?" The woman asked, unable to keep the excitment from her voice.
The orphange may not have been magical or haunted, but it was big. It was a four storied building with a green backyard and acre wide and an acre long. There was a colorful playground, a sandbox, and a shallow swimming pool for the younger children. The building was made out of shiny red bricks. The fence in the front was short and white, like a child's imagination would think of a perfect home. The windows were clean with not a fingerprint on them and every child here had their own room.
One the first story, the front door opened to a large living room with plush carpets, fancy furniture, and toys everywhere. To the far right of the living room was a hallway with two doors on each side and one door at the end. To the far left of the living room was a swinging door that lead to the kitchen.
The kitchen was clean, white, and sparkly. The counters were smooth, the sink was brightly polished, the floor didn't have a crumb on them, and the chefs were kind people.
The first door on the right of the hallway on the far right of the living room lead to the dining room. The chairs had soft red velvet cushions on them. The long table was cherry wood and had colorful placemats for each child. The walls were covered with diffrent shades or red and the floor tiles were a shiny black. The curtains were hanging by the window's side, showing bright sunlight in the room.
The first door on the left lead to a bathroom. The main colors were very light tan and white. The towels hung neatly on the silver towel rack and the bathtub was a pure white. The countertops didn't have a scratch on them and they were smooth with flakes of white and tan meshing together. A vase with diffrent colors of crysanthemums were in the corner of the tan wall and white floor.
The other two doors pushed against the hallway walls lead to bathrooms, the exact replica of the other one, but the door on the end of the hallway opened up to a lone staircase. It was dark, making a few kids think of it scary, and it lead to another door. Through the door was a hallway, bright with the lights hanging on the ceiling. The hallway was long and had 20 doors on each side, all leading to a child's bedroom. At the end of the hallway was another door much like the one downstairs. Each bedroom had two bed, a dresser, a mirror, a closet, a bookcase, and lots of toys. The trinkets, neatness, and color all varied from child to child.
The next floor was the same as the last one. Bedrooms, hallway, and another door leading to a staircase. The staircase that lead to the fourth floor was the same as the last ones. Through the door lead to a very large room with hundreds of desks, a chalkboard, a few bookcases, and a row of computors. The classroom.
As the caretaker showed the couple these things, the woman noticed something on the other side of the room, hidden by a bright curtain. She sneaked away while the caretaker talked with her husband and shoved the curtain aside. It was a door. It wasn't fancy and pretty like all the other doors. It was just wood.
"Uuuh...Mam? You're not allowed in there." The caretaker said, hastily walking towards her.
The woman ignored her and asked, "What's in there?"
"It's not important." The caretaker explained and tried to pry her away, "It's nothing, just come with me please."
The woman shook her off and reached for the brass knob. It turned easily and the door swung open.
Inside was another bedroom. It was diffrent from everything she had seen so far. It was small, dark, and plain. There were no windows and the only thing giving off a faint light was the lamp on the desk, almost burned out. A bunk bed with plain white blankets was pushed against the wall with it's head in the corner. It was only about a two feet away from the dark brown desk, which was pushed against the other side of the wall.
Once again the caretaker desperatly tried to get her away from the door while trying to tell the woman's husband to stay were he was. The woman resisted the pull and looked around the lonley room until something in the shadows caught her gaze.
Two children, twins. One was sitting on the bed while the other one was crouched on the floor, hidden by the darkness. When the first noticed the door opening, they stared. Both the children looked exactly alike. Their hair was darker then the shadows that surrounded them and their eyes were a souless gray. They were small and probably around the age of four. The boy crouched on the floor was covered head to toe in black. He had a black short sleeve tee shirt, black jeans, and black and white converse shoes. The other one was a living rainbow. His shirt was tye-dyed with every bright color known to man. His white pants had globs of colorful paint stained on them and his sneakers had rainbow laces and were colored a neon green and yellow. When their gazes met the ranbow child smiled, but the dark one glared like he was going to kill them.
The caretaker pushed the woman away and slammed the door as fast and loudly as she could. She franticaly took a set a keys out of her pocket and locked the door. "silly me." She said nervousley, "I forgot to lock it this morning."
"Who were those children?" The man asked, coming up from behind.
"Children?" The caretaker replyed more calmly. "I assure you, there are no children in there."
"I saw them!" The woman said, trying to open the door again. "Two of them. They were in there!"
"Mam, You must have been imagining things. That room has been empty and un-used for years. There are no children in there." Against the couple's protests, the cartaker lead them away from the door and back down the hallway.

Well, this is my first story I've posted here so far. I'm actually writing a book on this, and I will add more chapters. I've read the rules and the "how to" thing, but I'm still a little paranoid if I'm doing anything wrong sweatdrop Please let me know if I am and how you like the first chapter so far 3nodding
