Personality: Grave is never one for long conversations, due to his quiet demeanor. In fact, you'll be lucky to get a few words out of him at all, for its usually Eurkna that does the talking for him. Despite this, he is fairly compassionate to those in need, and will gladly lend his horn to those who may need it. Also, he's very protective of those he keeps close to him if they're threatened in any way, fighting near the death if it means keeping them safe. One of his greatest qualities is loyalty, he'll never betray a comrade even if it means putting himself into danger.

Location: Yisi is his most frequent haunt, and anywhere with an abundance of water.

Grave's Tree is located in the Western Quadrant

The Tree

Graves tree is fairly normal when it comes to the trunk, for its bark is a light tan in color with only a redish color towards the base and the sturdy limbs of the trunk. Unlike the trunk, its large, spherical leaves are a mixture of reds and blacks year around. All around it is a healthy tree with very little in the way of interesting features.

Greatest Strength

By far Grave's greatest strength is neither physical nor mental, its spiritual. His immense loyalty to any one individual, group, ideal, or moral will drive him to continue even after many other nequus would have fallen or given up. Until his body physically refuses to move, the last lungful of breath is drawn, and his heart finally stops Grave will never giveup; never betray that of which he has sworn to uphold and protect. Thus, his greatest attribute is persistance.

Greatest Weakness

Grave's undoing would surely be that of his body. If not properly hydrated the skin forms deep chasms and cracks that are painful, and if severe enough make 'chipping' his flesh off very easily. I say chipping, because of brittle, dry texture his skin aquires when his fluids have not been replaced.

Hobbies/Activities

Grave doesn't have much in the way of entertaining himself, but when the need arises and he's feeling somewhat bored he'll often turn to Eurkna for some banter between them. This can be in the form of teasing one another, dares thrown out for either of them to pick up, or just plain listening to the Caris' explanations of the world around them; as Grave finds her overly emphasized way of looking at life amusing.

Likes

  • A peaceful world, even if he knows that's too much to ask for.
  • Staying near rivers, lakes, ponds, or other bodies of drinkable water.
  • Keeping his friends close so he can protect them if the need arises.
  • Those willing to accept him as is: quiet, passive, a noteable threat.
  • Calm days with little to do but reflect on his life or lack there of.

Dislikes

  • Threats to his friends or family, foes getting away with murder.
  • Hot, arid regions or seasons with very little moisture as he tends to dry out.
  • Betrayal by everyone and anyone to many degrees.
  • Harming someone close to him either physically, mentally, or emtionally.
  • Failure on his end of the bargain. It is unacceptable.

This pertains to his unique need to replace fluids and keep himself hydrated lest his flesh becomes so brittle it cracks and breaks off.

Level Zero: Grave is perfectly rehydrated and in top condition. He can do anything any Nequus could do without worry of harming himself through any range of movements or activities.

Level One: Cracks are visable around his muzzle and lips, but appear to be deeper at the very corners. This makes grazing, smiling, biting, and opening his mouth mildly painful.

Level Two: Coupled with the earlier symptom, his skin has become very dry and rough all over his body, flaking slightly in places if it comes into contact with another object but not too badly. This makes his limbs stiff to move, and normal range of movement is more difficult than it should be.

Level Three: Shallow cracks have formed along his neck, on his legs, and across his underbelly. Movement is fairly painful now as every step only widens each crack that has formed and creates more.

Level Four: The cracks have become deep and many inbetween, peeling away chunks of flesh if it comes into contact with anything else. It is very painful for Grave to move at this point, although not impossible. A level four immobility usually only happens when he's been careless or hasn't replaced his fluids in over a week.

"I have no desire to keep my past identy a secret, but very few, if any, will ever truly know who I use to be; what shaped my life into what it is now. I give you the story of a stallion named Brandon. Brandon Heat."

My life was a shamble, raised by myself for myself, I had no parents or adults to look after me. And the few adults I approached were ill-indentioned to a lone colt, I remember vividly the times I was chased away or beaten for getting too close to a particular herd or solitary individual. However something changed when I met Harry, he was a guy I could look up to. Charismatic, that's what he was. He didn't seem to mind my quiet nature, and I didn't have to talk for him to understand; we were best friends even as colts.

Needless to say we grew up together, us and some of our other friends: which included Bob. We were living life for all it was worth then, causing trouble, stealing what we could, and fighting off our rivals. Even then I fought, and I won, and I bled for my friends. In every right we were gang of misguided Nequus cast aside as colts. And then there was Maria. I knew Maria even then and I felt close to her, but even she could not escape my ability to be silent, I don't know if she minded but she called me shy. I cared for her deeply, as both a friend and something more.

However these days came to a close as our life caught up with us, my friends were killed, all but me, Harry, and Bob survived. Our gang no more, us three joined the herd that had dealt the death blow; Millennion, headed by the top stallion 'Big Daddy'. No body knew his real name, but we were part of his family now. It was the largest herd around, powerful, whose influence swept throughout and exterminated many of the smaller herds within the area. Maria was there, apparently a part of the herd all along, and I guess I was happy with this. I certainly wasn't against it. As part of my stay in the herd I was trained by the highly ranked Bear Walken in the art of death, known as a Sweeper, an assassin.

I did many killings during that time, no matter the breed, no matter the race, they fell to the edge of my horn or the solid knock of my hooves. For this reason, for this sin I had commited, I refused Maria and ultimately she grew close to 'Big Daddy'. I could not blame her, I had driven her away, I had only but to be happy for the life she could make for herself. And that's when things delved into chaos.

I knew it was happening, I knew but I did not acknowledge it, Harry, my best friend Harry, was plotting against the herd. Plotting against 'Big Daddy' a stallion I had come to accept with open heart. I did not want to see this for what it was, but I had to confront him for betraying the herd. It was my duty to kill him, to off him, to protect what had become dear to me. My horn lay across his neck as I caught him off-guard, a single jerk upward and it would bury itself into his flesh... but: I could not. Harry was my friend, my best friend.

My weakness cost me my life. In my hesitance Harry's own horn, for he was Ichsa, pierced my flesh over and over in his greivous outrage, for it must have seemed as I had been the one to betray him. Many times I felt the sting as he pierced me, with every strike more painful than the last until finally the last blow came to my eye. I remember little after that, if anything at all; but the most painful part was the end of our friendship.

"I do not know if I praise or curse this part of my life, but here is the story of the stallion I have become today. The tale of a dead man from his lips."

My life should have ended when Harry was finished with me, but fate did not choose that path for my life. I do not remember this, but later was told of it by the good shaman himself. Tokioka, one of Millennion's healers found and 'healed' me from within my last breath of life. I do not know how he did it, for Tokioka was not the greatest of shamans. Brillant in mind, yes, but his abilities were inferior to many of the nequus healers within the herd's grasp. Because of this, one aspect of my body was poorly repaired, my ability to retain liquids for any prolonged periods of time.

I was brought back for one purpose, he told me, to take down the herd that had been my demise. However, I was no longer Brandon Heat, I had become Beyond the Grave.

I do not wish to waste my breath on details so I'll present you with the facts alone. Harry killed Maria in hopes of completely severing any continuation of 'Big Daddy's' bloodline, and now he was after their daughter Mika. I fought many foes that had once been my friend in my past life, and each time they fell to the persistance of my horn. Bob, Ballardbird, Bear Walken, and Bunji were amongst them. All had been my friends, but duty would not allow me to spare them. Then there was Harry. Bloody Harry he was called nowadays. Corrupt, power-hungry, the downfall of Millennion who had to be stopped at all costs. I was not Brandon any more. I was Grave. Grave could kill his once old friend.

Our battle was long, our bodies mortally wounded, but in the end I proved to be the better fighter and Harry too fell to my horn. I'd like to think that in some other lifetime we're still friends, that he's waiting for me when my life has finally drawn to a close and I meet my demise.

Now free to live her life, I pushed Mika away, like her mother, I had sinned too greatly to ever deserve such companionship.

(1) Protect Eurkna until she feels ready to move on or leave him for whatever reason.

"I accept and desire her companionship, as we seem to work together faily well. She speaks for me, and thus saves me the trouble of dealing with grumpy Nequus; and I protect her from when her mouth gets on the wrong side of ill-tempered beasts. However I am not selfish enough to wish her by my side forever, if she was to ever 'out grow' me I'd be happy to let her leave and live her life. After all, I am not a stallion who deserves such a companion as her."

(2) Redefine life as he knows it.

"All my life I've known to live is to survive, and to survive I must fight to protect my claim. After that killing was a means of protection, of loyalty. Does that mean I must kill to show my loyalty? I'd like to have this question answered at some point."

The adventures of Grave and all his wanderings will bring him. Although compared to his old way of life, such wanderings are subdued compared to the missions of assassination he use to carry out for the Millennion herd.

Never Betray - 'A trip to Yisi, a place where I happen to frequent, happens to be the meeting grounds for a bone-clad Aeri stallion. Interesting fellow, wouldn't mind meeting him again.'

Hey there, you want to hear about my past? Well, okay, I guess I can tell you.

Not much about my early childhood is important, I stayed with my mother and she taught me what I needed to know to survive. Hunting, running, fighting; the basics any Caris needs to know. I enjoyed my time with her and my other littermates, but when I grew older I started to get restless. Finally I decided to leave the protection of my mother and siblings to find bigger, better things in this world.

Keep in mind D'ob is a big place for a Caris, and so I didn't have to travel out of the valley in order to find my own little hunting territory. However, little did I know that it was already inhabited by a pack of 5-strong. Heh, yeah, I started to question whether or not leaving my mom had been such a good idea or not. I tried to avoid them whenever I could, taking the long way home to my shallow den, skirting their frequently used trails, anything so as not to meet up with them.

Well, that didn't last long. Eventually I met up with the group's leader, which she called an 'Alpha'. I dunno why they decided to give him this title. She asked me to join them, no bloodshed, no fuss. I would have gladly accepted only I opened my big mouth and questioned her title. I think after that we had a sort of falling out, I can still see the disgusted look that twisted her maw into a sneer.

Things continued like this. They told me stuff, what things were, what I needed to do, how to get it done, and I continued to question everything they said. I was curious, and I wanted an explanation, simple as that. Finally, the 'alpha' and her little group snapped. I didn't mean to be annoying, I just wanted to know what was going on.

They charged me with an impossible mission; return to them with the horn of a Reya or they would kill me. I'm just a Caris. They knew I wouldn't succeed.

Right, so I had two choices: somehow get a Reya horn, or return empty handed and be killed. Neither of which I was too happy about. Where and how was I going to get a Nequus' horn? A Reya no less! They were huge and scary! Not quite as big as Aeri, but they certainly look like the scariest of Nequus. Needless to say, I was very depressed and desperate.

The thought of just running away came to mind, but I was young and frightened and believed they would find me if I ran. I wandered aimlessly, hoping that I wouldn't come across any Reya anytime soon, for I was certain at least one of the pack members must have been keeping an eye on me. Then again, I was rather paranoid, so who knows. Unfortunatly my luck was terrible, and I happened upon a lone Reya. The only good thing? He was laying down on his side and looked like he was asleep. Maybe I could do this.

The closer I got to the sleeping giant I began to see the large scars that adorned his body, deep, dark scars that sent shivers down my spine. He must have been some sort of fighter, or maybe he was just really unlucky in life. I wasn't certain, but maybe he was already dead, and then I would just have too *irk* take the horn. I approached, as silently as I could, but as soon as I was withing pouncing distance his eyes opened! Oh goodness I yelped like a young pup and went racing away with my tails between my legs! But where was I to go? He looked back and he wasn't chasing me, in fact his eyes were closed again. So, being the desperate Caris I was I approached him again, only this time I charged in hoping I could get there before he had the chance to move and thus squash me.

Unfortunatly it didn't quite go down as planned. I stopped short of my charge when his head suddenly jerked upwards, and I froze when I felt that very same horn lay flat against the side of my neck. He could have killed me if he wanted to, that I know for sure, and I'm not sure why he didn't. The Reya was silent, he did not say a word, but his eerie yellow eyes locked on mine and did not look away. I was scared, very scared, not only because he had a horn across my neck but because of this whole situation. I had failed, I would die either way. I don't know why I did this but I spilled all the information on what happened, why I tried to attack him, and what would happen if I didn't get his horn.

Surprisingly; he said he'd help me. I wasn't sure what that entailed, he wouldn't tell me. He just left on his own and came back a little while later. I wasn't certain but I thought I saw blood on his hown, but it was difficult to tell since it had that stripe going down the middle. After that we were on the move, well he was on the move, I tagged along at his side and he kept looking anxiously back at me, so I figured he wanted me to there.

I still don't know exactly what it is Grave did, but we've never visited D'ob since. I like to think that he simply scared them off, that all. He wouldn't hurt anyone... I think. Maybe. Well, honestly I'm not certain with the way he laid that horn across my neck, but I tell myself it was just because I tried to attack him.

Now I travel with Grave, where he goes, I go, end of story. I have no clue how I can even begin to repay him for cheating me out of death, but I figure if I stick around long enough I'll think of something. Asides from that fact, I thoroughly enjoy our time together. He's big, strong, and my gosh he doesn't care if I talk for ever and ever! Isn't that wonderful?

As of right now, I have no intention on leaving his side. When that day comes though, I think I'll be sad to lose his company. Hopefully it'll be a time when I can be mature about it...

She may travel devotedly with Grave, but Eurkna is by no means attatched to his hip. She may have adventures of her own, and those adventures will be recorded here.

Never Betray 'We stumbled upon an interesting Aeri, and I learned many things about the pros and cons of his bones. Heh, I think I'll stick with Grave...'
