The forest was still and quiet expet for the rustle of the leaves and the chirping of birds. The sun floated brightly in the middle of the light blue sky as a few clouds explored the land above.
The lone red female krept through the tall grass of the meadow. She was stalking a bug she had found half an hour ago. Any other Ulaya might have become bored with such a game long ago, but not Kara. She still found the little Grasshopper interesting and fun to play with.
"There there. Just sit still little Grasshopper."
Creeping closer, she lifted her in a pouncing stance. She eyed the area she thought the bug was hiding. With a count of three the female shot herself in to the area.
"Eeeeh~ You're mine now!"

Usually Sobie would be found resting in the shade of a large tree, but by chance he lay in the tall grass this day and was sleeping, the warmth of the sun had lured him out of the shadows and he had wanted just a quiet lounging. In his sleep his ears twitched he thought he heard a child-like voice, it could be Pooka, the little ulaya he had been given guardianship of, but no, said his sleepy mind. She was grown now, and she still spoke in lies. The sun was bright and he didn't want to open his eyes to it yet, but slowly his head was raised and he blinked at the red ulaya as she bound towards him, he was in no fit state to move out of her way.

Kara's sky blue eyes opened wide as she spotted a brownish male in her falling path. Gasping, she tried to stop herself, or at least try to avoid the collision. Snapping her eyes shut the red female felt the hard impact of the ground.
Kara, stood on shaky legs as she looked over at the male and saw on her lower half had fallen on him.
"I'm REALLY sorry Mister! I didn't mean come flying at you. Honest, really I didn't!"
She looked at the still male with panicked and regretful eyes hoping he wouldn't hurt her or yell.

Sobie had never been one to quickly anger, and this was not the first time that a playful youth had leapt on him.
"Quite alright," he half yawned, he was fully awake now, "You are not hurt, either, I hope?" He stood and held a paw to her if she needed assistance in standing. He was concerned because she shook so, but at least she is polite, he thought and gave her a small smile, Pooka wouldn't have stopped to say her sorries.

A smile spread on Kara's face as her eyes lit up with relief and excitment. She quickly accepted the male's paw as she steadied herself.
"I'm alright. Thanks for asking. This isn't the first time I have gotten myself in to an acceident. I sort of have a thing with always running in to others when I am playing. I know I should be more careful, but who can really pay attention when they are having so much fun?"
Kara giggled to herself.

When she was steady, he slowly set his paw to the ground again.
He was amused by her playful nature, but raising Pooka brought the chide to his lips, "I think it would be wise for you to learn to pay a bit more attention, there are unfortunately other Ulaya that would not be so forgiving," he sounded fatherly and no unkind. "Gods and mortals alike that have tempers, they wouldn't blink before harming someone that crossed them in so carefree a manner." His face held a smile as he spoke, it was only out of concern.

A look of confusion and bewilderment appeared on Kara's face, yet she still held a look of amusement.
"There are actually Ulaya like that out there? I have never run in to someone like that before. I have heard stories from others I have met about them running in to such Ulaya, but I never really believed them."
Kara let out a laugh as she thought about the idea of such Ulaya roaming around.
"I'll try to be more careful then. I wouldn't really like to run across someone with such a bad temper, but if I have never run in to such a Ulaya before, then I wonder what my chances are of ever running in to one.."
She smiled as she looked at the smiling male.
"You know, this reminds me of what my father once told me, well he really isn't my father, but still. He said I am like a hidden treasure untouched and untainted by time nor the world or those around me. I'm not sure what it really means, but it sounds wise enough."

Sobie sighed softly, "That one should even have to be wary of others... Indeed there are. But I suppose if you haven't yet, you may never. I hope not."
He nodded and thought that over, the heat of the day was getting to him now making it uncomfortable to be standing in the sun. "I'd like to get out of the sun, if you would like to join me?" He gestured to a nearby tree.
"It sounds very wise, and I didn't give that warning, hoping that you would go from our meeting and be fearful of others, but I am like he is, I raised a little girl who was not mine by birth, she is grown now, and much like you, still kind and sweet and innocent. Not bad qualities for a young lady to have." He spoke as he walked, sure that she would follow and finished, settling in the shade.

"Aw," Kara happily and quickly trotted after the male after he started to walk off. "That is very sweet of you. I never knew my family and still don't. I don't even remember my childhood, but it doesn't bother me. I met a kind male who took me in as his own and raised me well. I owe a lot to him."
Spotting the shade she quickly jumped under the tree and settled on her back with a happy kitten like purr. Grinning, she looked back up.
"Your 'daughter' she sounds like a nice lady. I'm sure she must be grateful to you too, even if I don't really know it as a fact, but I can guess from my own experience. It isn't the best thing, being alone with no one by your side. Do you know that feeling?"

"I'm sure he does not view it as you -owe- him anything, just remember to visit him, and let him know that you are doing well, I am sure that that would be enough in his eyes." Sobie nodded, thinking that if her adoptive father was anything like himself, that would be how he felt, he still held the smile on his face, polite as always.
"Pooka? I suppose one could call her a 'nice young lady,' unfortunately she has the bad habit of not always saying thing as they truly are," This was Sobie's nice way of saying that Pooka lied, a lot, but in truth, the lies were not malicious, it was just her unique way of speaking.
He chuckled lightly, "I wish that I could! Do not misunderstand me, I do not mind the occasional company, I enjoy it, but I have the responsibility of three others, my 'family' so even if I wanted time alone, they find me with their problems," he added, "I don't really mind them actually. Keeps life interesting."

Kara looked up at the branches of the trees as they swayed lightly with a passing breeze.
"Well," Kara whispered. "I have no idea where my father is. I sort of ran off and for some reason I never went back. There was nothing wrong going on between us, but I guess something kept telling me to leave on my own for once."
She turned back on to her feet with her eyes staring down at her paws. Kara had never really thought of her father since she left that day.
"It would have been nice to say something before I left though. I said I would be back later, but I never went back."

This news was a bit appalling to Sobie. "Why not? I mean, if there was no strife between you, I'm sure he misses you a great deal, you can still do all the things you want to and be connected with your kin. Did you not just say that you feel you owe him a great deal?" He shakes his head and tries to calm himself. "Ah, I'm sorry dear, you do not have to listen to me, it just seems that, well, I sure he would miss you, do you not miss him?"

Smalls tears collected in Kara's eyes as she looked away.
"Of course I miss him! He is my father after all and I care about him so much. I know what I did was wrong and hurt him a lot. He was probably paniced or thought he did something wrong. I would go visit him or something, but I don't know where he is anymore and I don't exactly know anyone who might know where he is."
Kara's ears dropped as she looked down at her paws.

Sobie gets up and moves to her side.
"I'm sorry, Kara, I did not mean to upet you, forgive this old man's quick tongue." He pat her on the back, then curled on the ground nearby.
"Well. The way I see it, if it's important to you, you'll find a way, you can look where you knew he was last. Ask people, give a good description of him, and hope for the best. Yes, our lands are very large, but there are also lots of Ulaya, and some can fly. Another of the dear little ones that I care for, Kimihiro, he's made friends with a Draco'ula, can you even believe that? I'd always thought that they were, well, just stories. So you see, anything is possible." Sobie was trying to comfort her as best he knew. Though maybe he was rambling on a little, he wasn't good with tears.

Kara gave a faint smile as she tried to dry her tears.
"It's ok. Maybe someday I will find him if I don't run in to him first. Like you said anything is possible."
As her tears dried Kara jumped up and smiled as Sobie with an excited grin.
"Hey! Have you ever flushed out the butterflies in the meadow before!? It's really really fun and with all their colors it is amazing!"
