About Taelence
About Senka______________________ Taelence pushed the door of the shop open and stepped out of the pouring rain. She shook herself and watched, guiltily, as droplets fell onto the clean and dry floor. It was just like Mother Nature to play a cruel joke on her; it had been perfectly sunny when she had left the apartment but the moment she had stepped outside it had started raining. Even better she'd locked the door and couldn't get back inside to grab her rain gear.
So she'd run to the shop to call her caretaker, Crimson, to come pick her up and let her back into the apartment.
Tael grumbled under her breath and sauntered up to the counter, where she proceeded to jump up to the counter top sending more water droplets flying. She pushed the phone off the hook and settled down on her belly and pushed the right buttons.
"Crimson? I'm at the shop. Yes I know it's raining. Look, I locked the door to the apartment and can't get back in. Would you come pick me up? Yes, at the shop. Really? Thanks a bunch. Ok, I'll see you then," Taelence hung up the phone. Crimson might take a while and she really had nothing better to do so she began to wash the water from her fur.

Senka walked along the street in her leather rain slicker. Its really coming down. she thought to herself.
Up ahead she saw the shop and decided to hole up in there until the rain lightened up. She pushed open the door and shook the water from her coat and flipped the hood back. Just in front of her she saw Taelence cleaning water out of her fur. The white and orange fox looked more like a drowned rat to the silver female and despite herself she burst into laughter.

Taelence nearly fell off the counter top at the sound of laughter that came out of nowhere. She'd been too absorbed in cleaning her fur that she hadn't even realized that someone had walked through the shop door. She looked around to find the source of the laughter. She caught sight of the silver fox and her hackles went up.
Senka, she thought with a growl. The one fox she really didn't want to see while she was in this state. Tael had been hoping that if someone did come to the shop today it would be Chocolate. A ping of loneliness shot through her body. It was hard being away from her mate, but life just kept them apart sometimes. But she pushed Cho out of her mind and focused back on Senka.
"Oh, stuff it Senka. I'm so not in the mood," she snapped and shook more water out of her fur. She was satisfied to see that some of the water hit Senka, but not enough because the silver fox wore a slicker. If Senka decided to mention Tael's lack of waterproof gear, Tael vowed silently to herself that she'd rip off Senka's slicker and shove her out the door. That would wipe the smug smile off her face.

"I'm really am sorry Tael dear. I didn't really mean it." Senka said walking forward a few steps and gently brushing the water off her face that hit her.
"Were you out shopping and get caught in the rain? I hate when that happens." She asked politely with no hidden undertones. Of course Senka knew her luck. The other female would probably get all huffy and indignant. Senka wasn't really quite sure why she had this effect on other females. It just happened.

Taelence sat there shocked for a moment. Was Senka actually being polite? Tael couldn't imagine Senka as being anything but upfront and, well to be quite honest, down right rude.
Have I been wrong then? Taelence thought. Have I judged her too quickly? Taelence looked back on all the things she'd heard and witnessed that concerned Senka. The odds were stacked against her, but maybe that was because no one understood her. And that led Tael to think about her beloved friend Teles, who was rarely understood.
Taelence felt like a tool immediately. She was a pretty accepting fox most of the time and maybe she'd jumped the gun a little too early. So she shoved aside her irritation, and settled back into the calm she'd felt upon entering the shop.
"Ah, it's ok," she said politely. "I probably shouldn't have snapped at you as I did. But as it was, I'm fair vexed at the weather today and well, as you can imagine, my temper's not the best at the moment."
"It was actually sunny, when I stepped out of my apartment and then the rain started. I accidentally locked myself out and I don't have a key. So I ran the short block here to use the phone. Crimson should be picking me up sometime soon actually," Tael looked at her apologetically. "I got water on you, sorry. Not too much though, I hope?"

"Hardly any." Senka said slightly surprised. Tael hadn't exploded on her, probably the first female not to do something like that in awhile.
"Yes, it was quite lovely this morning. I was out in the garden for a bit and then I discovered I was out of eggs so I ran up here to the market, by then the clouds hard started piling up so I grabbed my slicker as I went out the door." She said.
Senka then looked over her shoulder at the pouring rain. "I wouldn't count on her to be here any time soon...its really coming down out there."

Taelence smiled a bit at Senka's expression.
It seems that we both have misjudged each other, she thought.
"Good," Tael remarked, in hearing that she hadn't sprayed Senka too badly. She looked out the door when Senka mentioned the rain. She frowned and mused. "It looks like you're right. Darn, I wanted to take a hot bath. There's nothing better after a thorough soaking, than a hot bath."
Something struck a cord and she looked puzzled at Senka.
"You garden? I didn't know that,"

Senka nodded. "I don't live with anyone so I try to provide as many vegetables, herbs, and small fruits as I can for myself. It saves me having to buy them. I also have a small flower bed in the front of the den, its not much but I try to keep it neat."
She then sighed. "Not many know I have any hobbies what so ever, besides keeping pretty evidently." she said somewhat spitefully. "I'm sorry...that wasn't directed at you."

Taelence, strangely, believed her.
"I didn't think you did," she said. "I go to the beach a lot, or go on hikes. They're a lot of fun." she eyed Senka, gaging her reaction. "Maybe you'll come sometimes?"
She sighed a bit and grinned a silly grin.
"I groom myself a lot, but only because I want to look good for Chocolate," she tapped out an aimless tune on the counter top with one of her claws. "Even though he's the total type to love the way I look when I've just woken up, there's sleep in my eyes and my fur sticks every which way. But even if he says that's when I'm the most beautiful to him, I still want to look pretty for him. I don't really care what others think of me. But his opinion counts." She looked at Senka, wondering if she understood.

Senka nodded. "I understand. I like to look nice for Gabriel. Especially since he seems to have a bit of a wandering eye specially when it comes to angelics. Although sometimes it would seem that some think I only keep up my appearance to try and snag males." Senka shook her head. "Sorry to disappoint them but I'm a one male kinda female. What would I need a horde of tod's banging on my door at all hours of the day for?"
She then sighed and said. "I like to take walks too, but mostly at night. The day time is always so noise and crowded. I like the solitude and quite of the night. Its very peaceful." Senka said twitching her tail.

Taelence stared at Senka openly.
"Gabriel looks at other females?" she asked astounded. "Chocolate wouldn't dare. How can you put up with that?"
Taelence didn't want to comment on how Senka thought others viewed her, mostly because she was right. Others did think she was the female version of a womanizer. But she was starting to think that the others had it very wrong. Horribly, horribly wrong.
She grinned at Senka's comments about walks.
"That's because you've never walked on a completely deserted beach in the late afternoon. It's a lot more peaceful than you think," she eyed the storm outside. "If it wasn't raining right now, I'd take you and show you. There's a huge stretch of beach, just outside the city that, strangely, no one really knows about. Or if they do, they don't like going there. I often head out to that spot when I need time to think alone. You can't get much more peaceful than that stretch of beach."

Senka grinned evilly. "With patience and constantly reminding him of who he does have at his side."
Senka nodded at Tael's comments about the beach. "That sounds nice. Perhaps you could show me sometime, and I could show you my moon gazing hill on some night with a full moon."

"But...but..." Taelence floundered for words that would sound nicer than what she was thinking and gave up. "That means that there are others he finds prettier than you. He's not totally devoted himself to you or else he wouldn't have to look at any other female. Doesn't that upset you?"
But she smiled when Senka mentioned her own special spot.
"I'd love that," she said honestly.

Senka thought about it for a minute. "Just because he looks doesn't mean he touches. And we have to let the males have their little indulgences. Besides, making him feel guilty for it means extra attention lavished on me." she smiled. "Love is a game, its also war, and when I can I play to win."
Senka nodded. "We'll have to arrange a time thats best for both of some time."

Taelence shook her head in disgust. And then she spoke with blinding honesty.
"Senka, right there is a prime reason as to why others tend not to like you. Love isn't a game, not to those who's hearts are involved. Even if it's to keep Gabriel interested because you do like him, you shouldn't have to...shame him into giving you attention. He should want to give you his undivided attention and the way you talk about it, it certainly sounds like you don't hold his heart. Not entirely anyways. I could never play games with Chocolate; he deserves better than that. Relationships can't be built on games and half-hearted affections, they fall apart too quickly. And I'm sorry, but I just can't understand why you think it's ok to treat a relationship like you are. You'll never hold Gabriel to you if you keep on the way you are," Taelence shook her head again. She did like Senka, she realized. But she didn't like Senka's relationship ethics.
