Okay, so the subforum is pretty much set up! It still needs prettying up but you may RP as you see fit.

The applications for the high ranks are also open. They'll stay open for a week or two and then the judging will begin. If your character succesfully gets one of the higher roles you will be contacted by PM and an RP will be set up.

There will be no breedings or new members until these higher ranks are taken and the pride settled.

Take your time to read the information available and if there's any questions PM the mule.

First annoucnement is this! There's been an update on ranks. The only ranks now that actually require RPs are as follows:
- Regent
- Magistrate
- General
- Storyteller
And even then, I don't think the council will have to meet that often. The general's only requirement is that he attends the council meetings as these are very important. Other RPs that characters need to do, such as meeting with peers is no lopnger necessary, though it is encouraged. This is to make the role more manageable.
The following roles:
- Guards
- Soldiers
Have no RP requirement, but do need to RP to gain apprentices which enhances their chance of promotion.

The second announcement is on the earthquake. I'll be chatting about this with Mims over the next week and see if the Firekin are going to be involved in this.

The pride is now accepting new members! Remember, all rogues (or ex-traditionalists) need to meet certain criteria to be considered. New members will also be under the 'quaratine' rule for a period of time.

Okay, two announcements for you today!!

Promotions!

Two of the Firekin have now been promoted. Let's welcome Azarax as the new General and Uuo as the Captain of the Guard. Other ranks are still open so if you want to apply send in the form to the mule.

Naming
There has been some confusion over the naming of Firekin. Traditionally, all Firekin have names that have some meaning related to fire, heat or the sun. The only exception to this would be the joining rogues and those rogues who helped in the battle.

This tradition has been continued in the Simo. So, for example:

Kidondo - Means Firewood
Kimeti - Firefly
Uddhava - Sacrificial Fire

If you have a name in mind but aren't sure whether its suitable, send the mule a PM and we'll let you know.

New Members!

We're not just saying this. Deciding was tough. Much harder than we had ever imagined. There were so many good applicants that you made the task almost impossible!! We did, however, finally manage to make a decision. We originally wanted to keep to five more members but the quality of the entrants meant that we had to extend that a little bit. The following rogues are now being accepted into the Pride as 'quarantine' members. (Please read pride information to learn more about what this means). To those who did not succeed we would truly encourage you to try again the next time the pride is accepting rogues. There were so many good entries that we would love to see again in the second round.

The basic criteria is: pelt colour, personality and history, physical flaws will play against your character. You may help increase your chances by applying with single characters, rather than characters that want to join together - unless it is absoloutely necessary.

Those who have been successful must be aware that they cannot yet apply for certs until their character is out of their 'quarantine' period. Quarantine will last for exactly 1 month (starting once the joining rp has been completed). After the month you are required to send in a list of RPs you have gathered in that time. If the RP amount is acceptable then your character will be formally accepted and restrictions will be removed.

Promotion

Kibela has now been promoted to Magistrate! Congratulations!! Magistrates hold a high rank in the pride and though they cannot make any decisions themselves they hold much sway during council meetings and are held in high esteem by all - including the Regents.

New Members

Let's all welcome the two new rogues who have completed their quarantine. Lakeisha and Yin-Li are now full-fledged members! Yin-Li will now take up the rank of Storyteller whilst Lakeisha will be defaulted as huntress unless otherwise stated.

Growths

Looks like all the Firekin cubs are juvies! Congrats on the growths, everyone <3 !! This also means that breeding should open again since the little ones are being apprenticed and aren't so dependant anymore. Watch this space for an announcement on that.

Death on the lands

Ripuka, one of the traditionalists, died on the borders of the lands. No one knows who caused her injuries. Some think it was the Safi, others think it was rogues. In any case, a search party recovered no one at the scene. This information will probably be public knowledge by now so can be used in roleplays.

Quarantine

We still have some characters in quarantine: Ka, Kai, Vanhi, Moja and Mteketezo'roho. As soon as they have been fully accepted, applications for new members should open up again.

New Rank

A new social rank, Historian, has been added.

Historian

Historians are generally intellectual Firekin who seem not to favour the more physical roles in the pride, those who like to sharpen their minds rather than their claws. They are equal to the storytellers and are given a number of important duties - some of which overlaps with the storytellers.

Their main duty is to teach new firekin about the history of the pride, about the time before the divide and after. They strive for facts and maintain as much truth as possible in their accounts of the past. They give lectures to young and old alike. Because of this they are respected members of the group and are often referred to as Keepers of Knowledge. They must learn all aspects of Firekin history and culture so that nothing is forgotten.

To help future generations of Historians remember significant events, the historians record important events by painting images on the stone slabs. These pictures need to be maintained and protected from the harsh desert climate. Events to be recorded can include the births of new lions, the joining of new members, battles won, changes in the council.

And whilst they keep the knowledge, they must also protect it and make sure it is not given lightly to anyone. They must also make sure that none approaches the 'paintings of history' without seeking their permission first.

Our first historian is Karana'Mzaana. Once the population builds a little more and there is a need, slots for further apprenticeships will be available. (or there will be an opportunity for storytellers to change career path and become a historian if they so wish).

The Safi Disbanding

Some of you may be aware that the Safi are going to be disbanding after a meeting that took place between Finar-Si and Kenna. The traditionalists will be heading out to infiltrate other prides in an attempt to grow strong again. Some of the traditionalists, lead by Kenna and her mate Ji, will be approaching the Simo and asking to be accepted into the pride. This will take place in an RP, but the format of how this is done has yet to be decided. There will be more information on this closer to the time.

In any case, the Safi joining will hopefully inspire some new plots and drama for the pride.

New Members

Along with the newcomers from Safi, we can also welcome Mteketezo'roho, owned by Kijani into the ranks of the Firekin. She has now completed her quarantine and is a fully-fledged member. Also, not forgetting Mahakali's six new cubs!

Subforum Updates

The subforum is going to be undergoing some somewhat drastic changes to make things more user friendly for everyone. The memberlist is going to be having an overhaul to make it easier to update and some of the other information is going to be rewritten in the near future. There'll also be some new banners to decorate the information pages.

There'll be a further announcement once everything is updated.

Future Rules and Plotness

Another reason for the rewrite of the subforum is due to some new rules that are going to be implemented very soon. Expect 'oooooooh' changes, plotness and sparklies!

The Merge

Okay, so it's finally happened! All of those who opted for their Safi to accompany Kenna to the Simo lands are now being converted. All adults will be defaulted to hunter/huntress rank for 1 month. After that, you are free to apply for a rank change.

Cubs / juveniles are able to be apprenticed and should do so via the apprenticeship sticky found here. Otherwise, they too, will be defaulted to hunter / huntress when they reach adulthood.

Due to the change in rules for prides with unique lineart, we've made a few changes to enable us to function better as a growing group. Please see below for the two biggest changes of all.

Rogue Joining

Applications are still currently closed for joining rogues. However, when they do open, the process will be very different from the one before. The old rules about quarantine have been forgotten and in its place will be a rogue vs firekin duel. Any rogue that wins his/her duel against the Firekin member will be accepted as a full member of the pride.

For this to work we need firekin members who would be interested in participating to volunteer themselves in the duelling thread found here.

You can read the rules for this duel process in the duelling thread or in the joining thread.

This new duelling system can also be used for Firekin vs Firekin battles and these can be done at any time. Note that Firekin who win 10+ matches will earn themselves a new title! The title is not a rank, but simply a show of the success in duelling.

Rogue joining should be open as soon as all these new ideas have settled and the 'test' period is over. If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask us.

New Ranks

In celebration of the recent events taken place in the lands we've also put together some new ranks, with help from Mims, DFA, Kim and Taj. See below for descriptions:

Lieutenant
RP Requirement: Medium

The Lieutenants act as the second-in-command for the Captain of Offense and the Captain of the Guard. They will apply themselves to helping ease the workload from their superiors by regularly patrolling to check up on the soldiers and guards and taking on small groups for training exercises.

If anything is amiss or not working it is their job to report this to the Captain.

Lieutenants are picked out and promoted from the guards/soldiers by the Captain. Being higher up the rank they are therefore authorised to give orders to the troops. However, these orders will be ones passed down from above and not of their own making.

Lieutenants are more likely to be promoted to Captain later on in their 'career'.

It must be noted that if there is a change of Captain, the Lieutenant could be replaced if the new appointed Captain so wishes. This is due to the need of a close working relationship.

The Lieutenants cannot be applied for in the normal fashion. Instead the current Captains of Guard/Offence will ICly pick a pride member for promotion. After that, the owner of the chosen character can send in an application and - if deemed appropriate - will be promoted to said title.

Water-seekers
RP REQUIREMENT: Low

Becoming a Water-Seeker means having a natural instinct for remembering the lay of the land, ensuring that one does not get lost away from the perimeter of the pride. Knowing weather patterns and natural landmarks is an essential part of traversing the desert safely.

Water-Seekers spend a lot of time away from the pride, scouring the desert for water sources. They are able to collect dew and also cultivate water-holding cacti for emergency supplies. They usually travel in a small group so as to avoid being caught out in the open alone. For the dangers lie not only in the harsh environiment, but also in outside rogues looking to cause trouble.

They need to be survivalists, with strong hearts and minds, able to adapt to their surroundings with ease.

Water-Seekers are available in the traditional route. Ie: throough apprenticeship. However, for this to work, we need some adult Firekin to take up the title and lead on it. Send in application forms if this interests you.

Spy Master
RP REQUIREMENT: High

The Spy Master is perhaps the most interesting and challenging of all roles in the pride. Unlike most, the Spy Master has to be able to function on his own. This means having earned the trust of the Regents in order to do so. The perfect candidate would be good at being secret and subtle with the traits of a guard and a soldier.

A Spy Master not only needs to understand the workings and goings on of the Firekin but must also be familiar with the outside world and its workings as well.

Daily duties would involve checking up on the Watchers - secret spies operating inside of the pride as well as on the outside. He'd also need to familiarise himself with the youngsters, needing to groom any cubs deemed suitable for the task of spying. It would also be a good character trait to have a good memory, to remember where the Watchers are posted - as nothing can be written down in order to preserve secrecy.

He would also serve as a partially diplomatic advisor to the pride.

This post is not yet available as we're hoping to integrate it into a future pride plot. For now the Regents will act as temporary Spy Masters, and assign the title Watcher to a couple of their trusted pride members.

Watchers
RP REQUIREMENT: Low

Watchers are, to put it simply, spies of the Firekin. They can operate inside, keeping an eye on members suspected of breaking rules or plotting crimes. (for example - the newly joined Safi). Alternatively, they can be posted outside of the pride, keeping an eye on neighbours or prides believed to be stirring trouble.

They answer to the Spy Master and obey any orders given by him. They are also hand-picked by him as cubs / juveniles and are taught the ways of secrecy and disguise.

Day-to-day life will have the spies acting out 'false' jobs. They may go about seemingly regular hunting duties, whilst keeping an eye on the members there. They generally stick to the less demanding roles so as not to drain themselves, which means they would rarely be given a position over guard / solder / hunter etc...

Any Watcher who reveals his identity as a spy will be demoted and never be allowed to climb into the ranks.

This rank is available via application at the moment. However, those who came from the Safi pride during the merge are not - currently - allowed to join. This is because the rank was born in order to survey their actions in the pride and make sure they're not up to no good. As we do not yet have a Spy Master, this rank is going to be restricted. However, once a Spy Master is in place, this rank will become more widely available.
