03. About/Rules/OOC UpdatesAboutThis is the Journal and Home Base for Wu Xia St. Clair, a camper at Murmuring Pines Psychic Academyand a character role-played by Apathetic Nonchalance. Wu Xia is a hyperactive twelve-year-old martial artist who can levitate, and the MP camp is her parents' last hope for either calming her down or providing her an outlet; these pages will document her adventures at Psychic Summer Camp.
Rules 1. No posting here without Apathetic's permission, or if you're Camp staff of course. :3 2. If you're not affiliated with Murmuring Pines, you shouldn't be posting here anyway. 3. If you do post, stay in character at all times, and obey the ToS for both Gaia and the shop. 4. If you need to get in contact with Apathetic, the PM system is available. 5. Find a wire-fu movie. Watch it. Act it out with friends. Wu Xia would want it that way. <3

Bio Wu Xia St. Clair was born to two parents who couldn't have been much more different: Gabriel, her father, was a daydreaming historian, and her mother Mei Lian was a popular star of martial-arts movies. They met on the scene of a movie in France, Gabriel's hometown and the setting for Mei Lian's latest film, and the two fell in love despite their vast differences, marrying in time for Gabriel to pack up for the US when Mei Lian's career demanded another move. Between her mother's films and her father's lecturing circuit Wu Xia grew up constantly on the move, spending comparatively little time at home in the south of France and most of her life on the road, hopping across the world from hemisphere to hemisphere. Because of this, she was exposed to a variety of cultures and acquired a number of skills, including becoming multilingual; however, the constant moving meant that her schooling was taken care of by private tutors and her father, so her interaction with others her age was limited and Wu Xia grew up as willful as her mother but twice as hyper.
In an effort to teach their easily-distracted daughter discipline, Mei Lian began to instruct the girl in basic martial arts when she was six; while Wu Xia managed to grasp most of the basics, the finer points of her mother's T'ai Qi Quan escaped the energetic child, who found it hard enough just sitting still and being quiet while Mei Lian explained. However, realizing that her daughter had talent (and that while she practiced, she wasn't running all over Creation and falling out of trees), Mei Lian enlisted the aid of one of her film-trainers who also ran a dojo teaching Tiger-style Kung Fu, a more bombastic and energetic style which Wu Xia took to with a passion. She was soon clamoring to enter tournaments and test herself against others, which grew into a vast competitive streak. Although she was a bright and bubbly personality, she remained somewhat 'lacking' in many social graces: Although polite enough, she was somewhat emotionally insensitive, and what she would brush off could reduce other children to tears. Proud of their talented little girl, however, neither Gabriel nor Mei Lian thought this was much of a problem and allowed her to indulge herself (within reason, of course).
When Wu Xia was nine, she came running in from the fields - they were in Tuscany at the time - to show her parents "something awesome": Dragging them outside and babbling something about 'bouncing' at incredible speeds, Wu Xia pulled them to her favorite play-area, a tumble of rocks and slopes surrounding a tall tree. Climbing into its branches, she explained that she'd been doing just that when she slipped and fell; anticipating what would happen next in her re-creation, her terrified parents were already partway up the tree-trunk when Wu Xia jumped from the branches and bounced, just as she'd said, several feet from the grassy ground. Open-mouthed, Mei Lian and Gabriel just stared as Wu Xia vaulted upwards as though she'd hit a trampoline, apparently having the time of her life as she somersaulted through the air. When she came down again, before she had the chance to 'bounce up,' Mei Lian plucked her daughter out of mid-air and told her to never, ever do something like that again without warning her or father. Wu Xia shrugged, admitting with downcast eyes that she hadn't been able to pull off two jumps in a row, and Gabriel had the first of the many minor panic-attacks to come.
At first, no-one in the family had much of any idea what to do about Wu Xia's 'skill,' except for the natural instinct to keep it quiet; Wu Xia was forbidden to try and do such a thing around anyone else, and her parents insisted on taking every precaution when she did. Wu Xia agreed, because even she recognized the potential danger, and she didn't have a guarantee that she would bounce; sometimes she simply fell, or hit the ground hard, and a number of minor injuries occurred, twisted or sprained ankles, many bruises, and even a fracture or two, which never managed to daunt Wu Xia's fearless demeanor for long. In many ways, it was a relief when the brochure for Murmuring Pines arrived, because it felt like there was at last somewhere for Wu Xia to learn to control her powers; while Mei Lian had encouraged her daughter to do her best to learn about this odd ability, she had always worried about the dangers and would feel infinitely better if she knew experienced "psychics" were there to watch over Wu Xia. As for Gabriel, his own feelings were much the same; he'd also, unknown to either his wife or his daughter, discarded of a more 'pro-active' brochure that had arrived via mail several months prior, on the basis that he didn't want his little girl attending the equivalent of a psychic boot-camp.
Now, Wu Xia is ready and raring to go: She still doesn't know much about psychics, and it's not like they have home-pages online or anything, but she's made a point of reading everything she can get her hands on... Mostly old comic books. While her parents have cautioned her that they're probably not the whole truth - she knew that already! - they're still pretty similar to her favorite movies, although they replace all the cool martial arts with a lot of cool powers; still, Wu Xia knows that if she just got the chance, it'd be just like living her favorite action flicks in real life! Who hasn't wanted to be a secret agent, or a movie star, right? Wu Xia thinks that she could do both, so she's approaching Murmuring Pines the same way she approaches everything: With overflowing energy and the unflagging will to succeed!

06. FamilyFamily Mei Lian Zhōu, Mother : With dark violet hair just a shade or two lighter than her daughter's, Mei Lian is petite, lithe, and very obviously her daughter's mother. Although she's just as high-spirited as Wu Xia, Mei Lian has calmed with age, most often presenting a polite and cordial manner; professionally, Mei Lian is a well-known actress and stunt-woman in martial-arts films, which display her abilities in a number of mixed styles as well as T'ai Qui Quan. Encouraging her daughter to pursue any and all interests since Wu Xia was very young, Mei Lian wouldn't mind if her daughter followed in her footsteps, and the manifestation of psychic power hasn't fazed Mei Lian at all: The woman sees it as just another talent, no more 'magic' or 'inexplicable' than her own talent for martial arts, and encourages her daughter to hone it and practice it as she would any other skill. Because of her practical approach to life, Mei Lian is often frustrated by her husband's more fanciful outlook, but finds it endearing nonetheless; however, she discourages romanticizing psychic skills, opining that doing so will only make it harder for the child to develop a realistic approach towards improving. Mei Lian is two months pregnant with her second child, and taking a short hiatus from filming at her husband's pleading; a few months ago, Little White Dragon Films released Black Pearl Temple, starring Mei Lian, to favorable reviews.
Gabriel St. Clair, Father : A tall, lean man with sandy blond hair and sky-blue eyes, Gabriel spends most of his time buried in a pile of papers and books; having acquired a number of degrees from a series of accredited universities, Gabriel finally settled down to teach Medieval European History and write a number of books encompassing various aspects on the subject, from types of beer brewed by seagoing Norsemen to martial formations and the rediscovery of architectural techniques during the Dark Ages. Gabriel's specialty is French and British Romances and he's fittingly a romantic at heart, often drifting off into speculations that have nothing to do with the subject at hand, and conversations with him frequently wander into odd tangents. A doting father, Gabriel instilled a love of the dramatic into his daughter from a young age, reading her excerpts from classical literature and pieces of the Grail stories as bedtime tales, and is probably responsible for her eclectic wardrobe-- Gabriel himself is occasionally known to dress as famous literary or historical figures of Europe, usually for one of his famed/infamous lectures, and while usually indulgent of Wu Xia's own quirks, he's prone to over-worrying. Gabriel often serves as a technical adviser to both dramatic and historical film crews and theater troupes, which is how he met Mei Lian: Gabriel was advising on a movie that featured a group of martial artists from a fantasy China who'd been displaced to 16th-century France, and fell head over heels for Mei Lian Zhō, the female lead.
Unnamed Future Brother and/or Sister, Younger Sibling : Wu Xia knows that her mother is currently pregnant, but since Mei Lian is looking forward to it as a 'surprise,' no-one yet knows the gender of the baby, or if it even might be twins. Wu Xia doesn't really care if it's a boy or a girl, although she thinks twins would be neat, and is already looking forward to being a 'big sister.'
Winks, Andalusian Stallion : Although his registered name is Arcadia Ambition, Wu Xia continues to call her horse Winks, a name dating back to when young Wu Xia first met the black stallion as a foal and said "Papa! Papa! He's winking at me!" Patient and somewhat high-spirited, Winks is well-trained and seems to bear his undignified nickname with dignity; he and Wu Xia used to win show-jumping competitions together when Wu Xia still competed, but though he largely resides at their home in France (where there's plenty of room for him), Wu Xia still takes him out riding whenever she can.
Dada, Cairn Terrier : An exact double for the little dog that played Toto in The Wizard of Oz, this puppy was acquired by the Zhōu-St. Clair family after the toddler Wu Xia, after being promised a puppy "if she took care of it," insisted on getting "Toto." The name arose after Wu Xia wanted to give it a similar name, but was reminded that her new puppy would want a name of its own: So, Dada follows a similar naming convention of Toto, and in fact has nothing to do with the anti-cultural art movement of the 1920s. Although her tail is always wagging, Dada doesn't like strangers and can be rather bitey.
Cadbury, Flemish Giant Rabbit : A fawn-colored giant rabbit buck, Cadbury is large, sedate, and very very cuddly; when she was younger, Wu Xia used to use him as a pillow-slash-plush toy, and she still likes hugging him because he's so big and fluffy. As long as he has plenty of fresh veggies and sweet hay, Cadbury doesn't do much besides hop around in his pen and graze; he's normally at the homestead in France, where the neighborhood children keep him company and he patiently tolerates all the preschoolers and kindergarteners trying to pick him up or pull his ears.
Skeets and Jen-Jen, Chinese Robins : Although initially confined to a large cage due to their tendency to fly away, the birds are now allowed to fly around inside buildings and tend to remain in Wu Xia's vicinity, chattering almost more than she does. Brightly-colored and hyperactive, the mated pair are Wu Xia's favorites and come with the family wherever they go; she misses them a lot, and is hoping to find a way to bring them to camp, although her parents convinced her not to take them with her until she knew if they could come.

07. People At CampName/Gender/Role/Appraisal Wu Xia has yet to arrive at camp, and therefore has yet to meet any of the other campers or the counselors, but when she does, they'll go here along with a link to their Journal (if they have one) and how she feels about them. More detailed opinions will be found throughout the rest of the Journal.

10. Snapshots and MemoriesSnapshots
This is where art and other images of Wu Xia's time at Murmuring Pines will go, if and when they appear. Referred to as "snapshots," they'll depict her assorted adventures and daily life, and will likely be coming after she's had some time to get adjusted at camp.
Memories These are short excerpts and/or quotes from the RPs Wu Xia participates in. Whenever they appear, they'll also feature a list of the characters she interacted with and a link to where the full RP can be found.
