Well, what did people think?

Let's hear it, but keep out of the shadows...
PostPosted: Sat May 31, 2008 1:57 pm

Thankfully, that wasn't as scary as I was expecting. I think I'll be able to sleep properly tonight.

Aside from that, it was AWESOME.
Personally, I think the little girl is the library in some way, and she sort of retreated inside herself when it was attacked. And did something very strange to all the people in an attempt to save them.
...But I might be completely wrong. I like that you can't predict Steven Moffat episodes. Some of them you can tell who's going to die from the start.

It wasn't really scary as such...it was just really disturbing. Ghosting, faces on...library thingies (I didn't expect Donna to appear like that, so when I saw it I let out a good "EEEEK"), skeletons in suits , shadows that eat people, little girls...this episode gave me the heebie-jeebies something awful. I loved it.

Personally this episode didn't really scare me as much as make me ask about a 1000 questions! I wanna know who that woman is. She made some strange references. She mentioned things about Martha and Donna in a weird way... Possibly Rose if I didn't pick up on it. She said "spoilers" which is most obviously a Donna thing. She also said in the preview for next week "I'd trust that man to the end of the universe. And actually... we've been" He went there with Martha and Jack. Am I totally missing who she is... is it obvious?

We also know she knows him as this Doctor. She said "snap" and that made me chuckle.

As far as the little girl goes... I think the library had a consciousness or something and part of it is alive? I think her world is some sort of security program or something. Perhaps I'm mistaken but... her actions control very... odd things like flying books.

The shadows indeed ARE scary, but just not to me. I mean... things you can't see are scarier than things you can. In my personal opinion.

The ghosting made me wanna cry...

Awesome, as usual from Steve Moffat.

Wasn't too scary, but I did enjoy the Doctors little quips towards Donna. rofl
I'm so curious about the professor though. D:

This episode was just so brilliant! but I have so many questions! I mean that woman with the TARDIS book, I mean she knew him and the whole time line wibbly wobbly stuff makes sense, but what doesnt is why she was logging his life? almost like a therapest or something. I can't wait to see what happens next.

It was very god, but way more obvious than I thought it would be. What happened to Donna was easy to guess, as to all the others who've been "saved". However, I loved the little girl and the weirdess and lol'd a lot at the dead guy wandering about with shadows inside his suit.
The Riversong woman is really annoying. Just bloody tell us! >:U

There is something very strange about the place where she is. It definitely looks like she's inside the computer systems somehow. The Doctor was looking in at her.
So yeah. I think she's the library. Hence the flying books, the messages with the security camera, and the thing with the phone.
And from the trailer it looks like her Dad is evil. So I think he's keeping her there somehow. I mean, the Doctor said he's never seen such a big infestation before. It seems like there should be something behind it.

I totally agree that it brought out a lot of questions into the open, and yes Moffat is absolutely awesome with his storylines. The little "TARDIS" looking book, now what of that? Please tell me that y'all noticed that it resembled the doors of the TARDIS and that the "spoilers" were more insight into the Doctor's life? Also if his "daughter" from the previous episode does show up again, maybe she has something to do with the Riversong thing....or from a totally different tangent....Riversong is his daughter from...DONNA?>>>???? LOL either way it makes for excellent blog fodder teehee. I hope more info will be revealed next week, I can hardly wait!!!

Side note: The futuristic suits the archaeologists were wearing looked like space suits.... and that one guy was named Dave. . . as in, "I'm so sorry Dave" .... rofl rofl rofl
...speculation that the girl's mind is some kind of computer-ish program or something...

Yaaaay! About freaking time they gave a good 2001 reference! (apart from the SJA finale, which made me fangirl)

What I'm most annoyed about is a) how jealous Donna looked when River and the Doctor were talking, and b) WHY can they not find a different century than 51st?? Surely when you have all of time to play with, you can find a century with numbers other than 5 and 1 in OCCASIONALLY??? Unless River and Jack are in some way linked. That'd be quite cool.

Ceribri - your Torchwood/Innuendo Squad icon in your sig is great. xD I have a really similar one, and one for CSI Cardiff... <3

Also, the whole end of the universe comment - what IS that about?? Is River a female form of Jack?? xDD if so, how funny would that be.

Maybe Jack had lived as a guy for so long he got bored and had a sex change and much plastic surgery.

I mostly like this story. Like Moffat's previous Who stories, there's a bit of mystery as to what's going on, so it's fun to see if you can figure it out before things get revealed.

From what we've seen so far, it looks like the 4022 people in the library were 'saved' in some sort of electronic format like Donna (rather than being eaten by the shadow piranha). Presumably, they can all be restored along with Donna. I'm guessing the little girl is either one of the 4022, or a personification of the central computer itself.

As for River Song, everything seems to point to her being a future ex-girlfriend (or maybe a daughter... maybe even a future incarnation of the Doctor's daughter from last episode???), since she was special enough to him to get a sonic screwdriver. Then again, ex-companions of the 4th Doctor all got a complimentary K-9, so maybe he just hands out screwdrivers all the time in the future. Anyway, I'm interested in seeing if it'll be the obvious, or Moffat's going to throw us a curveball.

My main annoyance with this episode was the ghosting thing. The scene with the airhead ghosting went on a bit too long for me. And the skeleton in an astronaut suit that goes around saying 'who turned out the lights' over and over again strikes me as being silly more than anything else. It just doesn't have the same effect as 'are you my mummy?'

On the plus side, I'm still enjoying the Ten/Donna odd-couple routine. It's definitely a nice change of pace from Rose and Martha.

I enjoyed this episode and can't wait to see what happens next. The attacks on the characters were a bit predicable (and I was just waiting for the skull to bang forward in the helmet for Proper Dave).

I think that they will save Donna and the others who were "saved". And it seems obvious that River Song is a companion of the Doctor's, but not necessarily this Doctor.

In some ways this episode was like a Who version of The Matrix...
Therapist says: The real world is a lie!

Please save Donna, Doctor! ;_; Er... I mean, unsave her. I loved her reactions for through whole thing.

Maybe it's just because this is also the 51st century but River shot the door with the same kind of device that Jack used in The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances.

Another thing I don't understand is how River would know the Doctor as "very old" in the future, because if it was a long way in the future it is likely he would have regenerated. My prediction is that it will turn out to be another "time paradox," if it isn't already XP
