-- AIM Rp between Vinuka and Jambazi'ekundu ((Kisoni & DFA))

When she stopped running, she was back in the main children's den--a low pit in the middle of a circular main chamber of the Termite Castle. Orange light filtered in from holes near the top of the three story chamber, painting pictures upon the rugged floor beneath.

The children were out at this hour, and that left Vinuka alone in what was her little 'realm' within the Outlands community. Their nanny threw herself down in the middle of the pit, managing to look graceful even as she did it, and attempted to stifle her mewls and tears. He wasn't worth this! He wasn't!

As it was, however, Vinuka wasn't to remain alone for long; Jambazi, whom was known for sticking to herself rather than with the other children, padded her way into the den. After all, she figured she would have been able to get some peace and quiet, enough to meditate, ponder, or perhaps even paint the walls of the den with red mud she'd found earlier.

Imagine her surprise when rather than findding herself alone in the chamber, she encountered the Nanny. The scent of salty tears reached her nostrils, as did... the prisoner's scent, mingled somewhat with Vinuka's.

Now, though the small female wasn't particularly social, she did very much like their nanny; Vinuka respected Bazi's space when she needed it and was nothing short of extremely kind to her. Where she did not always fit along with the other cubs, she always felt at home around the nanny, even if it was just sitting to the side.

Rather than talk, Bazi approached the adult female almost silently, and slowly lowered her head to grace the tip of her skulled nose to her nanny's, "Vinuka? It hurts, doesn't it?" such strange words for a child (well, this was not correct - she was hardly a child, and growing steadily... no matter the fact she did still look much too small for her age).

Much to her consternation, Vinuka yelped at the touch and skull that greeted her when she turned to face it. Jambazi was so silent at times it was.... spooky. As much as she liked the independent child (teenager, really, or very near to), there were times when she scared Vinuka... just a little.

That wasn't something the adult was ready to admit or show, however. Among other reasons, it likely would hurt Jambazi's feelings to know she was feared or considered "creepy" in the slightest. "O-oh... Bazi, dear.."

The orange lioness rose to a sitting position and turned her head to wipe the tears away with one paw. "I.. ah.. I suppose it does, somewhat." She frowned, unable to quite figure out what the child meant by that, or how she would know if it was what it sounded like. "But nothing you need to worry your head over. Can I help you, dear?"

Had Vinuka been able to take a peek within Bazi's mind, however, she'd have found that her fears of hurting the child's feelings were not worth noting. Bazi wouldn't have been offended, nor would she have stopped liking the nanny either, for that matter. Her mind worked in a diferent, perhaps slightly more simplistic way, in such cases; if Bazi liked something, it had nothing to do with if she was liked back, or not.

"Hmmmmm?" it was a smal, soft sound as she child lowered herself to the ground, pressing her head against the adult's legs once Vi rose up to a sitting position, "At least..." she said suddenly, eeriely calm, "He's still here, with you..." her head lifted towards the openings in the ceiling, almost as if she were looking through the curiously despite her words, "He's not here, with me. He left."

Not surprisingly, Bazi had not answered the question Vinuka had placed, at least not at first. slowly, however, she turned her skulled head towards the nanny and seemed almost confused, "No, unless you can call for the gods."

The nanny blinked at her charge, trying not to feel frustrated along with her confusion. What on earth was Bazi talking about? Or did she even want to know? After a moment's consideration, Vinuka wasn't really sure she wanted to. Actually, it was probably a very good idea not to know.

She shook her head with a sign, "I cannot. I'm only a nanny. I've heard tell that you might be able to, though."

Vinuka gave Bazi a slight smile, "Or your niece. The others say you two are very special."

"Hmmmm...." it was almost a hum, as if she were pondering something, "They don't like him, you know. Sarafina, and Sukari. Nuka too. They don't like God. They said he was up to something," a pause, "Maybe they were right, because he's gone," a small shrug followed as she removed her head from Vinuka's legs, a small smile tugging at her maw, "You're special too," and then her eyes narrowed under her skull, "Him too. The one went to see... I saw it, when I went to visit him. Saw it in the fire, too."

"They didn't seem like the God worshiping sorts, no," Vinuka shook her head, "Though they're good people. They're probably right to be suspcious of something so powerful, it could easily turn on them."

Somehow she thought she was missing something there, but she wasn't certain what. "Yes he... is. You shouldn't go there, Bazi. It isn't safe."

"He was weak, and could not move," her nose wiggled under her skull, "Even if he could have, he wouldn't have," a small sound was released, as if she were pondering something, "He stinks of denial, and guilt, amongst other things... pity, there's potential for good there. It's a pity he's lost in dark."

As if Bazi herself was one to talk? As if the outlanders themselves were ones to talk? Alas, there was some common sense within the strange, cryptic talk the child offered, even if it was hidden somewhere, "You know, they say there is never dark without light. Likewise, there is never light without dark. They are two sides of the same surface. I've always liked the dark. It's cold, and a bit threatening, but it's also strangely nice; it's protective."

A pause before she turned to blink up innocently at her nanny, then she tilted her head and smiled faintly under the skull, "I love you. I love my sister, and Sukari. I love Nuka, and the others. I loved God too though. I wonder if he left because he hates me," after a pause she seemed to ponder something "Do they hate you? Kibaya," she said, "And the other. I didn't get the other's name. He didn't talk."

Vinuka's eyes widened a little. The girl had found out this much? That was... unusual, to say the least. Somehow aware that her mouth was gaping she closed it with a snap and swallowed thickly.

"Well... We all love you too, Bazi. There.. is a lot to love." A lot that was very, very difficult at times like this one, when the young girl acted so... abnormally. Yet Vinuka was able to do it, and raised a paw to give the girl an affectionate stroke down her back. "I'm certain God does not hate you. Its rather difficult to hate one such as you.........."

After a minute she added less willingly, "his name is Chrnobog."

Of course, Vinuka shouldn't have been all too surprised; Jambazi was strange, indeed, no one could have denied that fact. However, she was also extremely sharp... intelligent like no other cub from her litter, without a doubt, what she'd lost in body weight and frame, she'd gained in mind power.

"Love..." she said as Vinuka spoke, "I wonder," there was a pause, as if she truly WERE pondering over that single word, "I wonder what love is... what it means. What it means to be in love. Who decides whom we love and why? Do we get to chose? I wonder... why love, if it's painful?" she leaned in to Vinuka's paw, arching her back as it passed over her circular patterns, "Hmmm... maybe so, maybe not."

As the name came, she seemed to ponder it, "Ah," she nodded, as if it all made sense, "Fitting they would have diferent names. Everything should have a name. You can't call 'tree' a 'flower'."

"You could, but you should confuse both tree and flower, did you." Vinuka smiled with a chuckle. She felt a little better for not concentrating on the problem. The confusion, too, help in its own... odd sort of way. The female shook her head. "If you ask me, Love is a combination."

After waiting a second, staring off into one of the 'windows' high above, she continued in a distant voice, "You fall in love for unguessable reasons. You can't choose that you fell in love with someone... but you can choose to act upon it or not. Many times who your heart chooses cannot agree with whom your head chooses.... and until they both agree, its best to forget your love. Love is wonderful, but love that causes nothing but pain isn't worth it."

"Maybe, maybe," she seemed content with the answer, regardless her words, and nodded her petite head, pleased to be having a conversation she could gain some knowledge out of. When she conversed with the other cubs, they were rarely if ever able to keep up... but that had more to do with Bazi's twists and turns in logic than anything else, "A combination?" an ear perked at this idea.

"So," she drawled, as if pondering the words as they went along, "Whom your mind loves, can be diferent from whom your heart loves? Wouldn't that be like falling in love with an idea, rather than a soul, if the mind is the one that picks?" another pause as she frowned, "How do you know if the love you picked is right or wrong? What IS right or wrong? Who's to say what is right and wrong? Can we dictate? Can we blame someone for leaving...? Can we blame for doing something we deem wrong, if they do not deem it so?"

It was was if she were tackling both Chrno's subject and God's in the same tirade of questions. It could be looked in either way, really. Perhaps done on purpose, or perhaps not... it was hard to say.

Vinuka's eyes narrowed, "Not necessarily picking an ideal, Bazi." There was a sigh, then she shook her head, "Hearts are.... blind to many things, and they're not always things that people should be blind to.

"For instance," She faced the 'cub', thinking it alright to speak plainly to her so long as she did not become too graphic, "There are many romantic relationships that are abusive ones. The abused partner's heart loves the abuser, and so blinds the abused to the physical and mental pains brought upon them by their loved one. Though the mind might rebell against this, it is often trapped because the heart is strong enough to sway it into danger."

She tilted her head as she was spoken to, however, despite the slow blink behind the skull, there was a sly, eerie gleam in them. It signaled the intelligence that only Sarafina seemed to posees within the pride. A strange, twisted sort of logic.... it was plain to see as she regarded Vinuka, "Ah..." a pause, "However, I think that a mind in love, would love an ideal... an ideal person that might, or might not exhist. Being abused is wrong, indeed... and it is good for the mind to rebel against it."

The child seemed to take this in and tapped her maw with a claw, then reached up to take the skull off her head, settling it on the floor beside her, as if the conversation at hand demanded she not wear a mask, "I don't know. There are times one can not help something. There are times one thinks one is right... and it turns out one is wrong," she turned soulful eyes at Vinuka, "I'm not telling you to give him... them, a chance," now that her skull was taken off her head, she seemed to have switched in the way she spoke; she talked fluildly, without twists or turns, bluntly, without the element of confusion to mask the hidden meaning in the words, "Second chances are fairy tale things. They do not exhist in these lands... however, you might want to find out 'why' .... 'it' happened. You might want to figure it out, if only to dispell the fear that grips you. You might want to know about everything before taking a decision," a paw lifted to to place itself upon Vinuka's chest, "The heart is selfish, but it isn't always wrong in what it wants."

Vinuka looked down at that paw, then bent to lick the girl's cheek in a motherly sort of way. "You're young, Bazi... it doesn't make you wrong all the time, but there are many things you still don't know. Should I try and find out? Yes, likely, but there are many dangers to doing that which wouldn't involve just me. This won't be resolved shortly, quickly or simply."

The female smiled, "but thank you, though, for trying. Maybe you should try something similar with that God of yours." She had a feeling it was... someone she'd known. Another child that had already left the lands, perhaps.

"I would..." she paused and placed her paws on her skull, "But like I said; he left before I could talk to him. I do think he hates me, for something I did. I wish i knew what," turning to face Vinuka, she offered the adult lioness what was perhaps the first sad, wistful smile the child had shown anyone. It was nostalgic, as if she'd already let go, abandoned it and decided it was okay to go on.

And then, slowly, she reached and placed the skull back over her features; it fit perfectly, as if it truly was it's place to be there, and should never be taken off, "It was God's father that gave me this skull," she told the Nanny, the traces of the smile still lingering even under the mask, "I don't need something simple; I'm okay with it not being simple. There is never any rush, is there?" then, almost as if deciding the nanny needed some time to herself, she nuzzled her paile legs once, and turns to pad away.

She stopped at the entrance of the den and looked over her shoulder at Vinuka, just briefly, "The others won't come for a while still," she told her, and then left; as if hinting that she'd keep the other cubs entertained for a while yet, so that Nanny could pull herself together.

Vinuka watched the child go, remaining silent all the while. Such a strange, strange little girl... Of course, Awatupe'Viwanja was a strange place. Perhaps she should ask one of the adults about this 'God' person. It seemed worriesome that a girl so young would already have these sorts of troubles; but Vinuka had to think again that this place was far from what she'd consider normal. Pleasant, yes, but not... normal.

WIth a sigh, she laid herself back down and settled her chin upon her paws. At least she could get some rest before her duties came clamboring for attention.
