Like for instance Kerning city reminds me sorta of philadelphia. its not all that bad an area, it just looks it. what real life towns do the maple towns remind you of?

Kerning City is based off the backwater/gangster cities in China.
Showa is based off the Japanese mafia organizations, or yakuza.
The Mushroom Shrine is suburban/traditional Japan.
That's all I can think of at the moment.
