Akin to an antelope, the young cub lay silently in the long grass. he knew if he remained still others wouldn't see or hear him, his scent washed away, just like the little fawns that lay in their forms and waited for their mothers to come and get them.
It was at times like this that palahala felt safest. Although the antelope herd was quite a distance away, he knew that other youngsters lay silent and if any predators came walking on by the herd would bark the alarm, then all he had to do was hope that he wouldn't be found and eaten.
He dozed fitfully in the mid morning sun, the dew long gone from his downy cub fur, his small wings tucked tightly against his back as he day dreamed of a place, unlike this one, wheer his 'people' could be safe from the fears of predators. He knew of no such place yet he dreamed lovingly of this little garden of eden. Lost in his thoughts he let his ears droop, nothing bad was going to happen today, he was in his garden, watching the beautiful beasts of prey casually wonder through the thick, lush grasses. It was so peaceful, so very peaceful.

A big fan of antelope, even though he wasn't yet big enough to successfully hunt them, Uhaijizi crept along through the grass with a rather cheerful and toothy grin on his face. He was happy to sneak around through the grass, trying to find some antelope to play with, or even better he might find his favorite brother. Palahala liked these kinds of places as much as Uhaijizi, but for very different reasons.
His wings ruffled and his tail swayed enthusiastically, not yet well trained in keeping perfectly calm and well hidden while on the prowl though he certainly seemed to have the basics down much better than most cubs his age.
"Antelope," he murmured, pausing to poke his head up out of the grass to get a better look around, "Hmmm."

The first grunt of one of the antelope alerted Palahala to the fact that there was someone around and stalking. His ears twitched upwards and he listened, he listened to the point of it being paranoia, listening for that quiet step, or a claw upon a rock, a twig under foot. Nothing, only he call off the large prey beasts. What ever was coming, he knew he would find out eventually.
Wide doe like eyes searched around skiting from one blade of grass tot he next waiting for what ever was hunting to pop through the grass and eat him.
He knew it was a little strange to think he was going to be eaten, but he always felt that he looked a little too much like a prey beast, his domain encompassed him. Swallowing hard he started to dither. Oh he hoped it wasn't his brother, he thought he'd managed to escape his brotehr by hiding out here. he got that slowly sinking feeling. His brother was about. he just knew he was going to get pounced!

Uhai kept his head stuck up out of the grass, watching the more anxious of the antelope wander away a bit. He was no real threat to them as he was now, but he was very self-satisfied to know that he still made them uneasy. It'd be worse if he was wander up to any of the smaller beasts, of course. No, he wasn't interested in that right now. He wanted to find Palahala, find something entertaining to do. Why befriend prey beasts when you had something better? A lion, thus more realistic a playmate, who just happened to be related to one of your favorite things to do or play with.
Yes, Palahala was always fun. Especially if no one was around to yell at him for it, everyone else only ruined his fun. And right now, if he wanted to find his brother he would have to try extra hard!
"Hmm!" he thought aloud again, looking around for good places that would make a good hiding spot for his brother. He sniffed the air, though the breeze was light. It gave him a good general idea, though, and he ducked back down to follow his nose and listen for any sounds of Palahala- or anything else- trying to make a run for it.

He lay so silently amongst the long fronds he convinced himself he was invisable. That today his brother woldn't find him in the grass but the sound of his brothers voice so close over head made him twitch. Sighing heavily, he shook his head, that had been the last thing he had acctually wanted to do. He knew now his brother would easily be able to find him and he never knew which way he was coming from.
Returning to stillness he stressed his hearing to the point where he could hear even the smallest of things move, though he knew full well that wouldn't stop Uhai from sneaking up on him and pouncing.
He resigned himself to his fate and closed his eyes counting the seconds as he waited for the sneak attack and the ensuing tourments from his brother.

Ahah! The sigh was more than enough to tip Uhai off as to where exactly he had to go to find exactly what he was looking for. There was no mistaking the voice hidden within the sigh, but to the predatory youth it was easy to overlook the meaning behind the sound. Palahala never really wanted to play with him, but Uhaijizi felt that they always had fun. He personally did, so why not? It's not like Palahala really ever got hurt.
He crept along carefully, not sure if he should go slow or fast. It all depended on if Palahala would try to escape the inevitable or just give in to it. Whichever choice he made, though, Uhai would react accordingly. He would keep sneaking until he found his brother, and if he heard his brother run (or fly) for it then he would follow after him.
Stopping to listen, he was sure that he was almost there. He wriggled excitedly, and pounced forward.
"Gotcha!"

Resigned to his fate palahala waited for his brothers paws to touch his back and the usual voice of celebration and it didn't take long in coming.
His eyes(if at all possible) went wider as the touch of his brothers pounce and the call of joy, he rolled slightly to his side his tiny forehooves attacking the air as he gave a very antelope like bleet in response to his brothers glomping attack.
It took a long moment for him to get his breath back, but once the air flooded back in to his chest he slowly righted himself attempting to get to his feet which was always an episode, he just didn't have the agylity of an antelope and his awquard fore feet caused him trouble in standing. "Hello brother." he sighs heavily, his small ears wriggling as he finally manages to get himself to his four odd feet.

Responding instinctively to the rolling and kicking, Uhai's very cubby claws came out and clung to Palahala in an attempt to start on his 'prey'. Luckily, Uhai had a lot of growing to do before he could too a lot of damage with his paws- and even when that time came, Palahala would get bigger and stronger too. In his own way. Maybe.
Triumphantly, Uhai held onto his brother as he caught his breath- taking the time to do so himself as the rush of the hunt wore off on him. Grinning toothy, he looked at his pale brother and got up so that they both could stand up- but he stood very close.
"Hey, Palahala!" he greeted, cheery despite his brother's obvious displeasure, "I was looking for you, you're pretty predictable you know! All the other critters like you out here."

Raising both brows at his brother he stared at him in silence for a long, seemingly eternal time, his chocolatey brown eyes fixed on the one reletive he feared the most to become a mid morning snack to. Trying to keep calm he spoke in a whispery voice, keeping the stutter out of his voice, just.
"Predictable?" He blinked, he was astounded, was that how he was always found? At this age was he already, predictable? His small pink tongue lapped out over his lips as he considered what he could possibly do to get rid of this obvious flaw. He could think of none off the top of his head, knowing he felt most comfortable amongst his herds.
"Well you know I ejoy spending time with the plains creatures Uhai." He looked seriously at his brother wondering if he was about to get chased until he managed the sanctuary that was home and their parents or if Uhai was happy to simply stand for a while. Who knew? He never could predict what predators would do.

He noticed very quickly how.. disappointed his brother seemed at the comment on being predictable. There were certain elements on his behavior that made him predictable, just as Uhai's constant play fights were undoubtedly becoming very predictable as well. But that didn't matter, Uhai wasn't the most considerate of lions.
"Yeah, and that's why I looked here first," he pointed out with a laugh, swatting at Pala's tail idly, "Do you want to play a game?" He swatted at his brother's very interesting tail again.

Palahala sighed heavily. "Do I have a choice?" He raised a very unhappy brow and twitched his antelope like tail. The downy fluff twitching about. he knew that this movement would only entice his brother to swat more at his unusual appendage, but it was automatic, the moving of his tail away from the aggrivator.
"I guess we can play a game if you like." It was a resigned sort of answer one that spoke reems of wanting to be any where but here playing a game, that would undoubtedly one day end in him being eaten. Or so he had convinced himself any way.

"Of course you have a choice," Uhai disagreed instantly, though he didn't sound very convincing- certainly this response was a reaction to prior lectures about being nice to Pala. At least this way Uhai could pretend he'd given his brother's feelings some thought, it was really a self-preservation tactic. His grin widened when Pala's tail reacted to the swat and Uhai wriggled a bit as he swatted at it again.
He was distracted, though his gaze was very reluctantly taken away from Palahala's tail, when his brother agreed to play a game. Uhai was intent on playing no matter the response, of course, but having his brother's consent would make it all the more fun! He stepped back.
"We can play tag," he suggested, "Or hide and seek- but we kinda already played that, didn't we?"

Tag, he should have guessed really. Tag was just another word for you run, I'll chase, cat and mouse, predator and prey. "I think I'v had enough of hide and seek for one day." He mumbled, doubting if his already fluttering heart could take another surprise attack from his surprisingly sneaky brother.
"I guess we can play tag." He let out a heavy sigh twitching his tail nervously as he prepared to bound away. he guessed that Uhai would be 'IT' after all thats why the game was suggested, he woudl run Uhai would chase.
And maybe, just maybe this time he would escape without being tackled, he felt he was definately getting faster, learning how to twist and turn in an instant to confuse the pursuing predtor. Maybe thistime Uhai would get tired and he would flee off in to the long grass withhis tail high.
Maybe...

Uhai pouted for only a split second when Pala shot down the hide-and-seek idea, though he knew that meant tag was still an option. It wasn't a bad one, more exciting- though it didn't last as long as something like hide and seek. It was still fun, though.
"OK!" he said, ducking down and wriggling in a very excited-kitten manner, "I'll be it, you go!" Uhai wiggled more, watching Pala expectantly. He would be patient enough, let his brother get moving instead of going after him immediately. But he was a cub, after all, and his patience was very limited!

The doe eyed god took a deep breath and puffed out hsis chest, he felt brave, sure that this time he was going to make it away in that great dash for the finishline, and by finishline he meant simply escape.
His small hooves beat the ground just once as he reared and bounded away. he had been learning much from the antelope, from the tompsons, how to dodge and weave, how to move swiftly from left to right, how to turn without acctually slowing.
Unfortunately, he wasn't quite an expert yet, but he was getting there and he just knew this time, this time he would escape the predator.
