I'm not fat. I'm not fat. I'm not fat. I'm not fat.
Amanae was chanting to herself again, repeating the same sentance over and over in her mind as she marched right past a name-brand clothings store. She could never go into the damn places, due to her, ahem, ample waist line. Really, she wasn't fat. She just wasn't exactly a size 9* either.
Decided quickly that clothes shopping wasn't her 'thing,' Amanae walked into a shoe shop instead. A full wallet and nothing to spend it on? Pshah, yeah right. Not when you're a woman in her early twenties with a self-image problem.
*in australia, size 9 in TEENY. Most normal weighted people wear 12-14. Dunno how it is in USAland XD

"Archie!" Francine was in awe. Awe. She had never seen so many pretty shoes in her life, mostly due to the fact that until a year ago she hadn't needed to wear them. Danon - the human that both she and Archie had once been bonded to - had been a Guy with a capital G, and not inclined to spend time shoe-shopping, and Francine had been... a puppet. No need for shoes, really. Archie had worn a pair when he had possessed his puppet body, but he hadn't had a choice. His little red sneakers had been sewn to his feet.
"Franny! What?"
The child-who-was-not-a-child looked up. She rolled her eyes at Archie's mocking reply for the briefest of moments before her regularly scheduled smile reappeared. "They're so pretty! All the shoes!"
"If I'd known you would be so happy to see them I would've brought you here sooner," Archie said. He reached out a hand and grabbed the nearest shoe he could reach. It was bright red and slightly fuzzy, a glaring contrast to the blue bits on his skin. "Hey, look! Elmo!"

Although she hated to be an evesdropper, Amanae couldn't help but over hear the pair that had entered the shop. Glancing up over the boots she had been debating on buying, she saw freckles. Well, actually, what she thought was freckles, as not only were they in small, random clusters, they were BLUE.
Looking back down at her shoes quickly, hoping she hadn't been noticed rudely staring, Amanae made herself busy examining a new pair of shoes. Maybe he had a disease or something?

"Elmo's a tool," Franny declared, once again breaking out of her fairy princess persona for a long moment. Perhaps living with a bunch of crass aliens and a former satyr had finally taken its toll.
"An adorable tool, at least." Archie waved the fuzzy shoe dangerously close to Francine's face and chanted, "Franny and Elmo sitting in a tree" over and over until she squealed with a combination of laughter and mock-hatred. She spun on her heel and stepped forward, almost knocking into Amanae and her shoes.
"Oh! I'm so sorry!" Francine said, eyes wide with shock and embarrassment. She swiftly turned to face her father-brother-granddad and hissed, "Look what you made me do!"
"I didn't!" Archie approached as well, gently pulling Francine away from the near-collision. The girl looked like she wanted to brush Amanae off, straighten her clothes and do her hair, and that would just be awkward. "Sorry about that," Archie said, slapping the Elmo shoe back on a shelf with his free hand. "I probably shouldn't touch the shoes."
"Those are nice!" Franny said, raising a finger to point at the pair Amanae had been looking at.

Amanae looked a little flustered, but admittedly no worse for the wear. "No, it's okay," She smiled, trying not to stare too hard at the marks, now made more obvious up close.
"Oh, yes," Amanae laughed, nodding a little. She was so polite when she met someone new. If Akira had been here, she knew for certain the meeting would be much less...formal. Even with a near collision.

"Yes, lovely," Archie agreed monotonously, no longer really paying attention. "We should go." He looked around for the exit, having gotten all disoriented after the ruckus he had inadvertantly been the cause of. His tail flailed into view from where it had been discreetly hiding behind him and thwapped at Francine's arm. It wasn't as dextrous as other tails Archie had come across, but it usually got its message across clearly enough. Franny batted at it with her other hand.
"Are you going to buy those?" she asked Amanae. "You should. I'm Francine, by the way."

Amanae was managing to stay quite calm, up close with the blue things (which she had now identified to be furry. HOLY CRAP was he dying??) but when she noticed the man's tail, it was over. Completely and utterly over. Okay, so she'd delt with ghost apparating in her house, nightmarish visions caused by the ghost, and one or two encounters with less-than-normal gaians. But holy s**t.
Holy s**t on a goddamn stick.
This guy had a TAIL.
Amanae bit her tongue, desperately trying not to point and scream or gag or anything else obnoxious. She managed to make an odd noise, and keep her eyes focused on the tail in question. "You...I..." She coughed out, attempting to keep the conversation rolling nicely.
((Amanae is a VERY sheltered Gaian. She doesn't see winged, tailed, funny colored kids, talking animals or babies that come out of eggs. No normal Gaia stuff. She lives on the edge of town, where people don't have "pets" XD))

"What's wrong?" Francine asked in a voice soft with a sort of pageant-finalist concern. To someone who didn't know her it might have seemed fake, but that was just the way she was.
Archie turned back to look at Franny and the sputtering young woman. His brows were furrowed with a mixture of shock and confusion. "What did you do to her?" he asked. "I turn around for a second and..." Archie's voice faded away as he followed Amanae's gaze to his tail, the tip of which was still resting against Francine's forearm. What had Dartsmoore said about some guy chopping off her tail and hair as trophies to hang on his wall? Archie's eyes widened, now definitely more on the side of shock rather than any other emotion. "You can't have it!" He took a step back and bundled his tail in his arms, petting at the tufted end and looking altogether ridiculous. "Franny!" he whispered urgently.

"H-have it?" Amanae spluttered. "N-no, I'm just...not terribly used to seeing...I mean, not meaning to be rude but...and your SKIN!" She blurted the last bit out unintentionaly. It wasn't in her nature to be so up front. Confronted with an awfuly...'unique' situation, though, caused her to become a blithering idiot. It wasn't intentional, really.

"Oh." Another strange combination of emotions, this time relief and disappointment, played over Archie's features. He dropped his tail and it swung back behind him, twining around his ankle. "Um... don't be afraid or anything. I'm not from around here. Originally." He looked to Francine for help with an explanation, but she simply shrugged. "I used to look more humany, without the blue and the tail, I mean." Archie was actually quite proud of his fuzzy skin and extra appendage. They were badges of honor, earned as a result of living through some very tough times. "Franny's from the same place I am, actually. She might look normal now, but that's just because she hasn't changed yet." There was a bit of a pout in Archie's tone. Afraid of his tail, was she? Peh.
"Yes, we were sent here from another planet," Franny added softly. "You really have never seen anyone with weird parts near where you live?" Somehow she couldn't imagine walking around outside at all without coming across someone who looked a little odd when compared with your average person. Now that she thought about it though, this neighborhood had seemed very oddity-light. Maybe they had wandered into a human part of town.

Amanae stared vacantly at the two for a moment, slowly deciphering what they'd said. "You're...so, you're aliens?" She said, voice barely a whisper. It was a difficult thing to believe, but even in a neighbourhood so far away from the raging lunacy of most things, rumours did spread. Amanae had heard of aliens crash landing here and there, mostly from Akira's girlfriend, who lived a little closer to the epicenter of wild-looking gaians.
She shook her head, "I haven't...there's this little glowey white kid that's claimed a room in my house, but he's a ghost, and...he's the weirdest thing I've seen...so far."

"Yeah, aliens!" Franny said with a happy nod. She liked being termed as such, even though the only slightly odd characteristic she currently possessed was a rather orange head of hair. "From all over! We land here as babies, even though we didn't used to be."
Archie's hand on her shoulder stopped Franny from saying anything more. It was one thing to tell this woman they were from another planet and quite another to reveal that they had been criminals there. All Francine had done to get here was stand idly by while her bond had hit his third strike, but Archie had actually done something that was illegal on Gaia too. Not the best first impression.
"A ghost?" Francine might have been diverted from her original topic of discussion, but that didn't mean she was done talking. "Like on Ghosthunters?"

"Land as...babies?" Amanae closed her eyes and waited for her brain to understand. Alright. Wait...there. "So...do you, like, go back in time or...something like that?" Her mind screamed in protest at the logic of everything she'd been taught as a child being torn apart, but she quietly ignored it, and kept talking.
"Uh, kind of. I mean he does only come out at night..." She grumbled a little at this, remembering the many occasions she'd been woken late at night by the bumbling little moon spirit.

"Not really," Archie said. "I'm not totally sure how it happens. No one ever bothered to explain anything." The Council had been less than forthcoming about... everything when they had been around, choosing instead to drop old items nearly too useless to pawn from the sky, the sale of which earned Archie enough money to continue living and doling the former criminals out to whoever wanted them. Now that they didn't land in his yard, and Archie actually had a life and money of his own, he felt exponentially less obligated to find them homes, only seeking out landings when he wasn't otherwise occupied. "We usually end up in different bodies than we used to have. Some of us change a lot."
"We should get a ghost," Francine said under her breath, at a loss for what she could add to the conversation.

Amanae touched a finger to her lip and contemplated. And contemplated. And contemplated some more. "So...who decides who looks after all these babies crashing around the place? They can't just...survive on their own, can they?" A slight look of concern crossed her face, before she realized she was talking about ALIENS here. Gross, freaky, not-of-this world aliens. In fact, she didn't even know these aliens existed aside from the man in front of her, and a rumor or two.
Still, somewhere deep inside, she was concerned.
