Somewhere in Africa, the land sings with the song of family. The inhabitants are happy to be there in their home, happy to be alive, and most of all... Happy to have family. Those that live here consider even friends an extension on family. These are the lands of...

[General Information]
The (name) pack consists, literally, of one family(At the beginning, anyway). The alpha, his 'mate', their children, any of the alpha's first litter to follow, their children, the son of the alpha's 'mate', the alpha's sister... And any other relations that might drift into and stay in the lands. Rumor is there's even the odd hyena in the pack, mumming as a dog.
It is a forewarning to any hyenas that enter the lands. Though small, Raka WILL rally the adult dogs to chase it off. He has a deep hatred of them born from one stealing his badger-blinded daughter in the night to enslave her, and sees them simply as vile, filthy brutes. Cushti simply doesn't care, as long as they don't heckle her family.

Originally having settled in the eastern border of the Pridelands, Raka, the current alpha, moved his whole family away from the hyenas of the Graveyard. Currently, the pack is gathering, but where they'll go... Only the voice of others may determine. Raka thinks the coast is a good place, but who knows what his sister or daughter might think. Cushti Bok holds no solid opinion on the matter.

[History]
Once upon a time, a near-reclusive dog and an amnesiac dog met. What was sown were the seeds of what they hoped would be a revival of the reclusive dog's pack, the Kingwa'mbwa. As their four children vanished, though, aside one daughter, hope was lost. The further loss of their mother was a devestating blow to the remaining father and daughter.
But not all hope was lost. Another dog came, singing in much the same way the near-formerly amnesiac dog's departed mate had. With her came new hope, as she brought him from his depression. As well, a group of hares helped his daughter, and soon new life blossomed in the revived pack.
But the pack wouldn't be what it was. Both the patriarch and his new mate opted to combine traditions. He found his sister, and soon things seemed to be under way. Together, they would create a new pack, with the focus on their combined family.

[Ranks and traditions]
As this is a new pack, there are still yet few traditions. What is maintained, though, comes from the combination of the two packs the first alphas came from.
Heart songs* - Born from the traditions of the Kingwa'Mbwa singing, Cushti Bok began to teach her pups about a concept known as a heart song - A song unique to each dog. In early puphood, each dog of the pack is taught about the music rich in half the pack's history, and are encouraged to form their own rythem. As they grow, this rythem may have words added to it. Not all heart songs are the same in form, though. Some dogs may sing, some hum, but all are expected to make some form of music.
Names - Most names tend to be either African in origin(Such as Raka Jiwe'mchanga means "Sand stone spot") or Gypsy/Roma(Cushti Bok means "Good Luck"). Other languages are acceptable, of course, but things of African origin(Including some Arabian) are prefered OOCly.
Naming - When a pup has been deemed to have survived the perils of early life, they are given a name. It is usually significant of what the parents hope its life to be, such as a couple may name their pup something that means 'sure of foot' in hopes of a good hunter, or 'great wisdom' in hopes of a teacher.
Totems** - Upon reaching their juvenile stage, pups are examined by the shaman council and given a totem and marked with the sign of the animal that is their totem. There is no descrimination between genders as far as totems go, so a female may get something like a lion while a male will get a zebra. Each totem has two meanings - A life lesson, and a skill. So a totem may teach a dog to be a good leader, as well as
Passage into adulthood*** - When they reach adulthood and have proven to live up to their totems, a dog of the pack will participate in a ceremony with the shamans and, dipping their paw into a special paint made from a few select plants and things, will place their paw print on a wall of rock set back under an overhang. Once they have done this, the pack will sing in rejoice for and with the individual.
Alpha: (2) - Pretty self explanitory. The rank is dually held by the alpha male and his mate, or in the case of a female heir, she and her mate.
Heir/ess: (1) - The chosen pup of the alphas' litter to take the throne next. OOCly, this is determined via randomising/dice rolling when the pups grow to adolescence, so it can be assumed that ICly they've all been taught about pack ruling.
Duke/Duchess (-) - Default title of the alphas' pups until adolescence, and then held by the sons and daughters that aren't the heir(ess). Should something happen to the heir(ess), the remaining sibblings are OOCly randomised again to determine who will be next in line to take the throne.
Lord/Lady (-) - All offspring of the dukes/duchesses. Unless their royal-born parent takes the throne, there's no further 'high' rank after this.
Teacher (6) - Teachers are the dogs that school young pups. No matter the litter, or even if a pup has a handicap, they are all to be treated equally by the teachers. What the pups are taught is dependent upon the teacher, as each may teach something different. One may teach hunting, another singing, yet another about the stars, and even about listening to the land.
Shaman (3) - A tri-council of dogs, there is no gender specifications for the shamans. Preferably very world-wise, they form the council for the alphas, as well as determine what the future of a pup may be.
Lookout (-) - Lookouts have a very important role in the pack. It is their keen eyes, noses, and/or ears that first see the approach of friend or foe. Their job is to either signal that another dog approaches, or to warn that a larger predator, such as a hyena, draws near.
Head Hunter/ess (2) - A pair of one male and one female to balance, they are the ones that organise hunting parties. They are the two best hunters, exceptional in skill and tracking.
Hunter/ess (-) Default rank of most all adolescents and adults, as well as new members.
Limbo (-) - The temporary rank held by rogues entering the pack. When the owners complete a sufficient number of RPs(Exact number to be determined later), they will be contacted by any one of the pack owners for a formal joining RP.
Youth (-) - Default rank of all pack pups born to either Lords/Ladies and regular pack members.
In the future, as more members join, more ranks will be added smile

** - This is a combination base on Clan of the Cave Bear and Brother Bear(Ahaha, both bear related... XD ). The personality thing is Clan of the Cave Bear, which... I won't reveal anything there beyond the people in it tended to be much like their totems wink The life lesson part is obviously Brother Bear.

If it's a new dog, talk to either Leafe and I, or Nova and I, as they'd need to be the brother or sister or cousin of Raka and Temari, or Cushti Bok and/or her deceased cousin, Adia.
