Walking through the darkness, Theron gazed at the bright moon. To any other soquili, it would be beautiful but Theron was not just any other soquili. The stallion looked around feeling rather bored. He wanted to fly but he also wanted to stay on the ground. Oh so conflicted... So Theron continued to walk through the woods wondering if there was anybody around this late at night.

He wasn't scared of anything. It would take a lot to spook him and he almost had this bad a** mentality about him. He preferred the nighttime as opposed to the daytime; Theron didn't mind the sunlight but he just liked the darkness. He hadn't met anybody since he had arrived in this area but he had seen others. But... meeting others really wasn't his thing. He preferred to stand back and watch. All of these soquili lived... trivial lives and had no meaning behind their actions. Why did they waste so much energy on living lives such as these? That was something he would never understand about the nature of others.

A mass of dark brown hid itself amongst the darkness, wings carefully folded along its back for perfect composure. The soft breeze of the night blew a rustle in the usually tidy hair of the mare, and a silent sigh escaped into the air. Strong bright green markings stood out on the form despite the veiled light within the night, granting any nearby observer the privilege of preemptive sight.

The brown mare was usually never seen without her secondary self, as others would call it, which took upon the form of a rather small but agile bird of prey. There were no distinct shapes in the sky tonight, and the mare's attention was rather too distracted to be paying attention to the moon's full light at this hour. Reflection was not a trait she found often, but it sought her out, and her once active, brash actions were quelled for the time being.

Little did the brown stranger know she would serve as a possible roadblock to another nearby soul, as her mind was far too beyond the present to concentrate on such little concerns like that; for now, she merely stood still, a fraction of her body shone on by the faint rays of the celestial bodies above.

He paused for a moment and closed his eyes. He wasn't sure why he had come here but he was a wandering soul. He had never stayed in one place for very long. It was a part of his past and his family but he would never reveal that to anybody. Theron was a private soquili and didn't open up to others very well.

Raising a brow, Theron noticed a dark brown mass in the distance. Who was that? The stallion walked towards Thera wondering if the other soquili would be interesting or not. Really, Theron wasn't one for socialization but boredom could drive a soquili to do anything. Theron's personality was difficult to describe because he could change his personality as he pleased. So he probably didn't even know his true colors since he changed them so much and made himself seem so sincere and genuine.

The stallion continued to walk towards Thera. "Hello there. Who might you be?" Tonight, he was more polite then he usually was. Maybe that was because he didn't feel like scaring others away tonight.

Startled by the sudden break of sound in the air, the brown mare turned back and saw the approaching figure of a small stallion, whose upper half was curiously lighter than his lower. She paused uneasily at his calm words as a shiver ran down her body. What kind of stranger would show such manners at this time of night? She shook her head; surely she hadn't spent too much time with her old alicorn companion. Perhaps she had been used to the hidden kindness for so long that she had long forgotten that others displayed the attitude quite boldly.

She took in the stallion's greeting and gave one of her own when she voiced, "Hello yourself..." She eyed him as he got closer, and despite feeling slightly unnerved by the blackness in his eye whites, she thought it no harm in providing a name... after she had gotten his, of course.

"Think the question is who are you," she asked bemusedly, putting a viewable smile on so it wouldn't seem rude. "On nights like these... something like yourself shouldn't be sneaking up to unfocused alicorns like myself trying to get a quick laugh from a scare, you know?" she jested carefully. It didn't seem like smaller flutters could ever get the upper hand of other larger breeds, but one didn't know for sure.

Watching her carefully, Theron wasn't sure what to say next. Being alone for so long, he didn't get much socialization. He softened his voice feeling that his usual harsh voice might scare her away. Was she... a tad jumpy? It seemed like it. But Theron had no ulterior motives. He just wanted to entertain himself. "I go by Theron. Now, may I have the pleasure of having your name?" He kept himself from looking at her skeptically. He could feel that she didn't trust him... Then again, his appearances didn't help him socialize.

"Oh? Was I really sneaking? I apologize." He really wasn't sorry. But it wasn't like he was trying to scare her anyway. "I just happened to be wandering in the area. I hope you don't mind." His eyes seemed glazed with deception. His true personality wasn't like this but he wasn't even sure if he knew what his real personality was. He adjusted to fit each situation and his mood. Others didn't like him for that... Then again, nobody liked to be deceived.

"Though, you should be careful around here. It's dangerous." He warned her almost wanting to scare her a little now that she brought that up.

The slight hesitance from the stallion was caught by the mare; what brought it on was more impenetrable to grasp, however. But as he said his next words, an ear flickered up in some form of recognition.

"Th-Thera? That's my name," the brown alicorn remarked, surprised for a moment. It's a name for girls, too, she thought, and couldn't help but let out a small giggle filter through the air.

"Those of your colors, and those of your..." Thera thought, "...Those of your stature find it quite easy to fit the role of sneaking, yes? And mind I do." She feigned a furrowed look of agitation, stepping towards the odd flutter in an almost swagger. Him saying he hoped she didn't mind seemed a bit too sarcastic for her taste; but wasn't her dear friend filled with a pinch of sarcasm as well, so she should have been used to it already? Her hawk had always been the one to jest around like that as well.

But this was a male, and one who wasn't very impressive to boot--especially in terms of breed, but Thera had never met any flutters, so she wasn't fully aware of their capabilities either. She stopped in front of the stallion just a couple feet away now, and glared.

"Dont you have to worry about going out at night like this, as well? No doubt you could be mistaken for... an actual butterfly. If I recall, those wings do break, and are only able to be mended if someone like me used our strengths, hm?" Her inquisition was more of a curious nature than that of an accusation. "Should put it to the test, in my opinion," she said with an added smirk for a final effect of a tease.

Theron watched her carefully and was surprised that her name was so similar to her's. "I said Theron." He would never appreciate being called Thera and preferred to stay as masculine as possible. Though, he probably would have to get used to most soquili being larger then him except the females of his kind. Being a flutter, he stood much shorter then Thera. He didn't feel at a disadvantage but almost even more confident. He couldn't show any weakness.

"I guess. Well, I didn't mean to sneak so I already said sorry." Theron's voice got a little defensive and his harsh voice almost returned. He paused and stared at her with cold eyes. "What? Really... I doubt soquili around here are that dumb." He paused and glanced at her wings. "Your wings are just as likely to break as mine are. I could test that out for you too." Definitely, the stallion was appreciating what Thera had to say and he had to restrain himself from lashing out at her with verbal abuse.

In the back of her mind, Thera knew Theron had stated his name differently than hers, but she had spoke too sooner than she had realized the fact. It was also too humorous of a chance to pass up, now that she thought about it--though there were many out there with different names, it was curious to pass by one that possibly had the same name as her own, especially if it had been of the opposite gender!

"Theron... I see," she continued, "Thera fits me better anyhow, wouldn't you say? I would make you look a bit lousy. A bit of a pity we can't share the exact same name, though... I might have fancied having a smaller brother." She winked slyly, feeling a little playful as time went on after the two introduced themselves.

Theron's next words sounded guarded, and it seemed as if Thera had hit a soft spot. It was never intentional for her to hit low as far as their race attributes had been, but there were some things in the world that were easy to remark jokingly about, and a smaller male was one of those.

But as Thera was about to speak, Theron had taken action first, locking his eerie gaze into hers. His inner eyes were a dark hollow, and his silver eyes floated like mysterious pools in the deepness of his eyes, which interested the alicorn to a degree. Where there should have been the whites of the eyes simply disappeared. She had been so entranced that she barely grasped his words, but caught the gist of it after she left the eye contact.

"That sounds a little brash, dear Theron," she started, wondering what kind of defensive anger motivated his words. They were a little too bold for her, coming from a flutter, but perhaps it was the light of the moon that influenced this behavior, or the time of night--for weren't butterflies always more active and chipper in the day?

"We both know we are better than that; that type of thing is best suited for those who take in flesh instead of pure nutrients. Unless perhaps, we have ourselves a carnivorous flutter here, eh? Why so unlike your bright, cheerful friends?"

Theron nodded slightly feeling that the name did suit her better. But was she just insulting him? This mare wasn't being exactly polite. "I beg to differ. If we had the same names, you would look pretty lousy next to me." The stallion just stared at her when she mentioned something about a brother, "What?" What the hell was this mare going on about? There wasn't anything pleasing about this mare and if he wasn't incredibly bored, he probably would have walked away by now.

He didn't like it when others mentioned his size because just because he was this small, he definitely didn't act like it. Size shouldn't matter and Theron had learned to just brush it off.

Even Theron wasn't sure why he acted the way he does. Being a happy little flutter never really suited him and he had always been this cold. "No, I think it sounds quite acceptable, Thera." He disliked those flutters that were hyper and everywhere at once. They annoyed him but then again, there were many things that annoyed Theron.

He had thought about eating flesh at some point in his life or another but he knew that his body just wasn't built for that. "Not quite but damned close enough. Don't stereotype everybody. Just because there are a lot of bright, happy flutters doesn't mean all of us are like that."

Thera, looking lousy next to a small, leery-eyed butterfly? Perhaps the butterfly part was true, but beauty on males paled in comparison to that of an elegant lady, which Thera was! However, she took the remark in stride as the original remark was only said in jest. Perhaps stirring anger from the little male wasn't a very good idea--it seemed like an unwise decision to provoke something that can creep around like that, and something that also has the ability to hide itself remarkably well.

Well, what a grump this fellow was. Had Thera not been the conversationalist that she was, she would have followed the simple solution of flying off by now. However, the motivated, intense battle that spurred from the stallion's lips prompted the alike firey mare to retaliate!

"...Close enough?" she asked skeptically; since when did did she ever meet a soquili whose fragile, dainty exterior shelled a harsher, more dangerous side? Or perhaps he was making unfounded claims. It was a bit more puzzling, especially when it opposed her peculiar meeting to a kalona that held more infractions to his kind than anything she'd heard of. Perhaps stereotypes were nonsense after all!

"...Are you half-kalona?" Thera questioned seriously. It didn't scare her if he was, though if Theron possessed the capabilities to deeply wound her, that would be something she'd never be able to live down--her hawk companion would never let a single day go by without the reminder! But something told her that the stallion was more bark than bite, and his lack of offensive limbs and traits other than his mouth gave away his naturally peaceful disposition. "If you are, I severely doubt you'd be able to take a chunk out of me, kind Theron."
