I was just reading `dagon's post about her brother having an Alice in Wonderland sleeve and it got me wondering.. How do your families feel about your mods? I know with mine, it started off with them kinda being into it. My parents are.. well.. here's a picture: (mind you, that WAS Halloween, but I never would have known if they didn't tell me. Sans... the eye-patch of course.) That just shows you that they're not quite the average parents. Just to give you an idea of what I'm working with, here. They were the ones to take me to get my first piercing(my center lip) when I was 17, so they accepted it to SOME degree. But now... they just kinda.. meh. I don't know about my brother, but everyone else in my family is just kinda wtf to everything I do these days. I told my parents about my flesh pull and that was a debacle. They told me they never wanted to even hear about anything else like that that I did. That they didn't care. It kinda hurt, honestly, seeing as how important these things are to me and it sucks that my parents now think it's "unchristian" and "pagan" of me. I'd like to reason with them and tell them that pretty much every body modification originated in "pagan" cultures, but they just wouldn't listen so I don't try. That being said, they don't mind my tattoos for the most part. My mom hates that they're Giger, though. "He's.. just.. so satanic, Cassie. I don't know what you're thinking". She also thinks I ruined my life because I got a tattoo on my chest. "You'll never get a good job, now, you know". *coughihaveajobcough* Needless to say, it's a push-pull with them about body mods. There are some that they would freak out if I got and I don't know if it would even be worth it because of the trouble it would cause at home. Such as tongue-splitting. My sister thinks that I "look weird enough" and my mom is just appalled by the procedures. Seems like the more into this I get, the less they understand or want to understand. Makes it harder that they're across the country, I suppose. I could go on about this all day soooo What about you guys? What does your family think of the things you do or want to do?

Hey, another Cassie xd
Anyway. Well, no one in my family other than my father knows what I have or want to get, and even he doesn't know half the things I want to get. But, as far as mods in general go, they're against them. STRONGLY against them, I might add. Considering what all I intend to get once I move out, it's a very good thing I'm not too attached to my family. They hate modifications so much, I'm quite likely to get completely disowned if they even find out I have what I do right now, let alone happen to see me once I have any amount of work done.
It's unfortunate, but right now that sort of stuff seems to be the norm. I just hope it improves soon.

My parents used to be completely against it, but after getting my fourth or fifth tattoo, they accepted those, and the piercings. They have kind of given up on trying to tell me not to get tattooed or pierced. I can still tell my dad doesn't like them, but he doesn't want to fight with me, so he doesn't say anything.
They are both totally against anything more serious. My mom especially hates scarification and told me that if I ever do a pull or suspension, that I just shouldn't tell her. Hahaha.
Unfortunately for her, I'm doing a pull this summer and I plan to suspend, get scars on my chest and face, and get my tongue split eventually. In general, I think they're still in the initial shock phase for the more heavy mods, and the more I expose them to the idea, the more they will get used to it, just like the tattoos and piercings.

My parents hate all my facial piercings, i.e. my eyebrow ones.
My mom found out I got my tongue pierced and she doesn't mind. She doesn't mind the ear piercings, or the n****e piercings, or the tattoo.
But she, and the rest of my family, has some big problem with things that "show" or look "not normal."
My dad just doesn't like me doing anything. He doesn't even like me dying my hair, or even keeping it short. O.o
Oh well. I told them a long time ago I wouldn't do anything seriously stupid, and it's my body.
So there you go.

My mom is pretty cool with a lot of my piercings. She took me to get my cartledge done twice on one ear; then my second holes; all on my tenth birthday! >_< I got my nose done when I was 12. Bellybutton when I was 15. And everything else once I was 16; she didn't really like my snakebites; but she knew that she had to accept it. After a while she actually got used to them and didn't really mind them. >_< The only ones that she really didn't like were my sternum (WHICH LEFT A MASSIVE SCAR IN MY CHEST); and my septum! XD She just wants me to make sure that I am getting then done by a professional; I know how to take care of them; and that I know that they are going to leave scars. She's just scared that for my 18th birthday I'm going to get a really stupid tattoo on my chest or something. XD

My mom's pretty cool with the piercings, she's encouraged me to get most of them. My dad doesn't say much about them, I get the occasional comment of 'you've ruined your face', but that'll be about it.
My boyfriends family, on the other hand, hate them and give me a fair amount of disapproving looks for them. I hate to think what they'd say if i got my ink done. It's strange, considering their youngest son has scarification, which they like and my boyf has his ears stretched.

My brother had some piercings before me, but I got tattooed before him. I'm more into mods in general than him, though.
My dad hates them all. A lot. And is on my a** about it all the time. But at least now he doesn't get as angry. At least, not until I split my tongue or something, which is why I'll be decent enough to wait until I move out to do that.
My mom doesn't like me getting facial stuff. She doesn't really care about the other things. And she was really scared for my LIFE when I did my suspensions. lol I felt bad. ._."

My mother hated it when I got my lip pierced. She hates everything about bodymodifications and thinks I am ruining my body.... but then she even hates it when I get a new haircut o.O When she found out I got my back tattooed, she fainted. Literally. And then said it was utterly disgusting. I guess she also has a problem with things that look "not normal".
My dad doesn't like it too much but he doesn't mind me having my body modified. At least he understands that I am responsible enough to take care of myself. He knows I wouldn't do anything stupid.

i guess we're all in a similar boat, huh? my parents tried so far as to forbid mods in their house, and tried to reinforce this when i started piercing myself in junior high. when i was thirteen i came home with a tattoo and they gave up. my mother voices her complaints every once in a blue moon (she's from japan, and a bit of a traditionalist), and my father worries and vents every day. uuuugh. when i did my suspension, he told me to make sure my mother never found out, and told me i was a freak.
my sister thinks that, as far and piercing and suspension goes, i'm better at taking pain than her, and she gets a kick out of it sometimes. i think she's lying - she's played rugby for years and i'm pretty certain has experienced more pain through that than anything i've ever gone through. and although it seems she would never get one, she adores tattoos. so long as they're pretty or meaningful or funny, she gets a total kick out of them.
i feel so bad for my boyfriend, however, whose family is starting to pull away from him and his father won't talk to him due to his mods, which are a bit heavier but by no means unhideable. they think it means he's mentally unstable and self-loathing, when that isn't the case at all. and he gets quite upset over the way they've been acting.

I've been pretty lucky when it comes to family. My dad's parents don't know about my piercings or scars but that's fine, my father doesn't think they could handle it with the age/generation gap (WW2 vet and housewife). My mom's mom thinks my piercings are pretty and my scars are "lovely." My parents accepted that body modification is a huge part of my life and has been that way for the last nine or ten years. I'm pretty sure as long as I don't come home with crappy work or some sort of profanity etched on my forehead, they'll be fine.

My parents are kinda hippies, and my step dad is a "biker"... so they had a few tattoos. My mom remarried when I was young and when I was about 14 my older brother opened his own shop (which is the one still open now!), and my other brother (his twin), apprenticed with him and wound up opening his own place last year. My dad (biological), was pretty apprehensive at first until he saw how clean everything was and equated it to his mom being upset about his only tattoo and long hair... so he warmed up to it. Anyways, my family can't exactly say anything since I am mostly the light weight rolleyes
Oh and I have gotten a second job... so I might be dropping out of the "biz". There are just too many shops around here and most piercers charge next to nothing so it is hard to train customers that you get what you pay for. I just bought a house so I need to be able to live too! I am sure I will never fully quit, and it does make me sad to think about it crying

D: That IS sad. It's pretty hard to not be able to make a living doing what you love. Especially when hacks are under-cutting you and people don't know any better. I really hope things work out for you and you're able to continue doing what you love!

My mom is totally ok with all my mods, but my dad... Well he's totally different. He keeps complaining about my piercings and my hair. I don't even want to know what he'll say when I get my first tattoo... He's very old-fashioned when it comes to appearance... He thinks I'd look so much better with normal hair and no piercings but one pair of earrings. Well talk2hand I ain't taking anything off. I'm getting more exclaim

I didn't really see my dad much when I was getting into mods, but my mom has always been pretty cool about it. She didn't really like it when I got my tongue pierced, but that was short lived after I got bored with gauging it.
She cried when I got my first tattoo when I was 18, but I think it was more about me growing up and being my own person. Since she hasn't minded.
Oh, my ears. She hates them, but doesnt care much. I put my fingers in them and random knick-knacks when I visit. It grosses her out, but she just laughs and makes fun of me about my grand children swinging from them later.
Uhm, the sleeve surprised her, but she thinks it's awesome. sweatdrop
My dad is just glad I turned out semi-normal after having a rather "strange" adolescence, before I got into this s**t.
