Malice was not happy. Not that this was anything new, but today especially, she was in a foul mood. There was sun. There were little children laughing and screaming. There was salty sea air.

She sat huddled in the middle of a beach blanket, under the shade of a large umbrella. Her bathing suit, which was black and white striped, resembled something out of the 1920s. But at the moment swimming was the absolute last thing Malice wanted to do. She was focusing all her energy on staying out of the sun.

Malice hated the beach; hated everything about it. Its smells, the sand, and most especially the sun. It seemed brighter here, like it would burn her no matter how much nasty oily protection her mother had slathered on her skin.

Alelisa excitedly slid across the sandy shore. It was very rare that Marina had taken time out of her busy work schedule to have a day of fun, and Alelisa enjoyed every second of days like these. Although the sun was definitely scathing, the air had a touch of cool in it, and with each breeze came a refreshing burst of energy. Even though she did not like to have contact with other children, she did not want to go on a treasure hunt by herself.

"Being a lone pirate is no fun, no fun at all..." Alelisa quietly whispered to herself.

Sliding over to her mother's bag, she poured out all of its contents. Little sticks that expanded in water which Marina had told her were "not for little girls", veggie chips, a notebook, lipstick, a tiny jar of toothpicks, a compact mirror, and finally, her treasure map. Good thing Marina was asleep, because Alelisa did not want to clean up the resulting mess.

"I'll let her clean it..." Alelisa thought, as she snickered defiantly.

And then, as if by poetic justice, the wind began to blow harshly, blowing the treasure map out of her hands. Alelisa hastily followed it, and watched as it landed on a lump in a beach blanket.

Malice had been on the verge of prodding her mother awake from where she lay snoozing in the sun and demanding to be taken home when a ratty piece of paper landed on her blanket. Curious, she picked it up and examined it carefully, having to turn the paper several times to get it facing the right way, or at least what looked like the right way.

It appeared to be a very crudely drawn map, done with crayon on brown paper that had been burnt on the edges to make t appear old. Looking around, she tried to pinpoint the direction the paper had blown in from, and noticed a girl about her age quickly approaching her blanket.

She folded the map up quickly and neatly into a small square and hid it away, out of sight.

Out of breath and arms aching, Alelisa planted herself in front of Malice and attempted to catch her breath. As she laid on the sand and waited until she could speak again, she examined the girl who was staring back at her. She seemed really nice! Alelisa thought that the young girl's hair was adorable.

As soon as her breath came back to her, she began to speak to the girl. "D-do you... Have my ma.. My map?" Alelisa's inquisitive eyes peered into Malice's. Although she was deathly timid, Alelisa felt that the other girl may have been as shy as she was- thus, it would be easier for them to communicate. She looked at who appeared to be Malice's mother, and then back at Malice.

"How about we do a treasure hunt together?"

[haha you described the map perfectly... xD]

Malice stared openly at the new comer, from a distance she’d though the other girl had been playing some of weird game, rolling in the sand. But now, she could see that instead of legs the girl had a huge blue fish tail. Generally, it took a lot to startle Malice, but this really was something new. After taking a few moments to blatantly stare, she regained her composure.

“I haven’t seen any map.” Malice lied to her formally and coldly. “And were are you going to find treasure in this wasteland?” She spat, angry with the heat and the fact she was stuck in it for the time being.

Alelisa's temporary self-confidence began to dwindle the longer Malice stared at her with what appeared to be disgust. With the matter-of-fact tone Malice used, Alelisa almost instantly began to submit to the other girl.

"Well... Wanna... Wanna help me look for... The map?" Alelisa's eyes began to trail away from Malice's, as if she had wished she had never spoken with her.

“No I don’t want to help you look for your stupid, fake map.” Malice spat. “What’s the matter with you? Do I look like a stupid little kid who wants to be out in the heat and the sun?” The weather was making her even more irritable than normal, luckily she had an easy target to vent her anger on, and she could almost smell the other girl’s submissive fear. Weakling.

No. Stupid. Fake. With each word, Alelisa winced. Why was this girl acting so rotten towards her? Had she acted in a way that had disgusted her? Alelisa's eyes looked towards the ocean longingly.

Perhaps a different approach would please the girl?

"Well, I'm Alelisa... May I ask what your name is?" Alelisa attempted to fake a smile that would give the illusion of self-confidence.

Malice smiled sweetly in return, showing off a gleaming row to prefect teeth in the process.

“Hello, Alelisa.” She said, feigning kindness, “I’m Malice.” Her smile dampened a bi. “Why don’t you have any legs?” Grin. Idiot.

[ooc: and then alelisa asked "And why are you such a b***h?!?!" hahahah jaykay]

"Oh, hello, Mal-" Alelisa's sentence was cut short when Malice continued to speak. Why didn't she have legs? She hadn't really thought about it before. She sat for a moment, pondering the situation.

"Well, I guess they're what makes me... Unique?" Alelisa looked over at Malice once again. "So, are you sure you don't wanna go on a treasure hunt? Or do you wanna play something else...?"

[ooc: hahahahahahah~! XD *cough*]

Malice snorted. Unique? This girl was so dumb she didn’t know the difference between special and crippled.

“No, Alelisa.” Malice told her, her voice filled with disdain for the spineless child. “I do not want to play with you, hunt treasure with you, or even be on this godforsaken beach with you.”

Alelisa winced with each word that fell out of Malice's rotten mouth. This girl had been giving her the most contemptful the entire time that the two had spoken. "D-Do I... Bother you, Malice?"

“Yes. You bother me. This beach bother’s me. The entire damn world bothers me.” Since her mother was asleep, Malice felt no hesitation in using one of the four-letter words she’d picked up. Had Elda been awaked, she wouldn’t have dared, because she knew the one thing that didn’t fly with her mother was swearing.

Still, if felt kinda good to use the forbidden word. She grinned wickedly at Alslisa, seeming to dare her to say something about it.

Alelisa's eyes widened with the d-word falling out of Malice's mouth. "T-that's a very bad word, Malice!!" She had half a mind to wake up the person who appeared to be her mother, but decided against it when she realized how Malice would most likely react. The situation hadn't been going anywhere, it seemed that the two were just exchanging words. How boring!

"But, uhm, that doesn't matter, because you're my friend..." Alelisa winced in preparation of Malice's most-likely horrid response.

“I don’t care if it’s bad, I don’t care about anything.” She growled irritably.

“Friend?” Malice spat angrily. “Who ever said I was friend’s with you? Who asked you to come over here and talk to me?” She crossed her arms over her chest and glared at the other girl. “You’re very stupid if you consider me a friend.”
