With the arrival of the Jupiter class battleship in late AD 3917, the OUTO had been making swift progress in the Rimworlds. Much of the HPA fleet was destroyed by the end of 3918. The end of the war is in sight.
It is January 20th, 3919. The Jupiter class battleship, Valhalla's Prow, sits at dock in orbit over the planet Minerva III, receiving repairs after a pitched battle 2 weeks previously. It's battle group and sister ship are several days away, scouring the sector of the last known HPA fleet sighting.
At approximately 0500 hours, the space station picks up a massive group of ships closing in from the edge of the system. The last remnants of the HPA fleet had banded together and evaded detection to carry out a daring mission: to capture the Prow while it's guard was down. The ship, only 60% operational, had no propulsion and vastly reduced armaments. The hull plating was still heavily damaged, and armor was low.
The crew rushes to arms, pitching the vessel against overwhelming odds in defense of the station. For over 2 hours, it fights gallantly against the attackers, disabling 13 ships. By 0800 hours, however, the station has been taken by HPA marines. The soldiers begin to board the Prow, bringing the fight to the inside of the ship, as well.
It's munitions exhausted and enemies closing in on the bridge, the captain gives his final order: to engage a power core overload and cause the ship to self-destruct. He addresses the crew one final time, commending them for their bravery. His final communication is sent on a low wavelength to Terran Naval Command on Earth, arriving there 2 days later. The core overload is engaged, and at 0807 the ship goes down with all hands. The enormous blast destroys 20 HPA vessels, and leaves scorches on the surface of the planet itself.
For their bravery and valor, the entire crew is awarded the Navy Cross, the highest medal of the Terran Navy. The commendations awarded make the crew of Valhalla's Prow the most decorated crew in history. The debris field over Minerva III is declared a military graveyard, and declared a no-fly-zone both out of respect for the dead and because of the dangerous munitions still floating about. To many Terrans, Minerva III is now known as Valhalla, a solemn reminder of the bravery and sorrow of mankind... and the might of the Jupiter warship.
