Weeks past, though time didn't matter anymore. Dain lost track of the day almost as soon as he had left.

He remembered nothing, cared about nothing. All that mattered was that he kept moving. His tank never ran out of gas, it ran on a system of hydrogen fuels cells and a clever solar power to recycle the water made from the reaction.

He kept going at a constant speed, only stopping to eat, and hardly ever resting. The half-blood didn't know where he was going, just that he was and had to.

He only felt two emotions throughout that time, sorrow and rage. Rage at himself, sorrow at what he had done.

The first place he visited was New York, New York, though that was only for a short time and didn't really matter. He had been hoping to find a bunch of Hydras, but they had all been disappointing and easily defeated by the Athenian warrior.

He had conversed with his mother for a short time, she trying to talk sense into him, but he wouldn't hear any of it. So she discussed what the ramifications on Olympus as to what happened. In short the Oracle had been right, the gods where torn and the "Great Olympus Rift" had been formed.

Right now he was fighting a sphinx in a small valley on a bridge, one that had insulted his intellect by asking him a series of trivia questions anyone could answer.

The creature leaped at him, but it was to predictable and a simple stab caught the beast in the heart and it exploded into yellowish dust. "Why are they so easy.." he asked himself. But what he was really asking was, "Why can't I just die!"

It was raining and thunder clad the sky, it had been like this sense Clear had died, Dain thought it fitting. He took shelter under a tree on the other side of the bridge that night and fell asleep, his sword nearby. He hoped something would come after him in his sleep.

What he didn't notice was the layer of vines that grew around his body, covering him like a blanket.

He dreamed of her that night. He dreamed of her memory and everything that made her so great. He dreamed of her eyes that were like seas of green fire, always determined, always pushing him to be the best he could be. He dreamed of her lips and how he loved to tease her. Dain dreamed of Clear and he felt like he was in heaven, the woman he loved was back and would never leave him.

But it was for naught, he awoke. He could feel her lips on his still, like he had just kissed her and then she had been ripped away from him. He felt like he had tasted paradise and then the door had been slammed in his face.

Dain stood, not really noticing the recent plant growth in the area and walked over to his bike and check his supplies. "I should be able to survive for about another week without resupplying..." he said to himself, not really knowing why. The son of Athena didn't notice but there was allot more food in his bag than should have been, mainly fruits and vegetables.

He currently had a 12 gauge shotgun mounted to the side his bike, he had stolen it from a gun shop in NYC and his .9 mm Magnum was loaded with celestial bronze rounds he had gotten from Drake the year before when he had left to safeguard Clear.

Shrugging, he closed his bag back up and shoved it back into the storage compartment behind the seat and mounted the bike. He took off almost instantly after putting his helmet, becoming a red, blue and bronze colored streak on the road. He was heading south again.

Three cops tried to chase him down that day, but he had lost them in a traffic jam and they gave up, not really wanting to get into a war with a guy that obliviously knew his way around on a motorbike and how to deal with them.

It was night when Dain realized where he had been going and the thought of actually going to where he was going scared him shitless, but he knew he had to.

So he rode into Clear's hometown, Charleston, Virgina.

It took him a while but Dain found his way around to Clear's house. He had prayed to the gods that had so forsaken him(in his opinion) that Mr. Rivers wasn't at home. No such luck, this was going to be awkweird.

Knocking on the door took all his inner strength and when Mr. Rivers opened the door Dain thought he would die then and there, facing that shocked and yet kind smile. He didn't deserve that smile, or that kindness.

"Dain? What camp kick you out?" he looked around and a frown formed, "And wheres Clear?"

The Athenian visibly winced at the name of the woman that he loved, and killed. "We... have to talk," Dain said with eyes closed and head down.

And so Dain told him what he knew, how and why Clear had dead, and how her death had been predicted by the Oracle. The worst part was that the older man just closed his eyes and nodded, listening to the story. He asked a question that killed Dain all over again on the inside, he hadn't even thought about it alot.

"And the baby?" he asked, calm and watching Dain to see his reaction to it.

He winced and closed his eyes from the internal struggle and pain, "Dead..."

Charles Rivers nodded said, "You can stay here tonight if you need to."

Dain was blindsided by the offer, he had expected rage, anger, sorrow, heck he had expect Clear's father to kill him. Instead, he was helping him. "What!?" Dain nearly yelled.

"You look tired, hungry, and ready to kill yourself. I'll be damned if I let you leave and go get yourself killed by whatever is out there. At least without helping you rest and eat. You can go out get kill yourself tomorrow, for now we eat and rest," he replied before getting up to get some food from the kitchen.

"But... I killed your daughter!" Dain replied, utterly confused.

"She was bound to die someday, she was a demigod Dain."

Those words seemed to sober Dain up a bit.

He stayed there for the rest of the night, though he didn't speak. Dain just thought, eat and slept on the couch before leaving the next morning. He had spent a short time in Clear's room but left quickly, not having the strength to bask in her glory for to long.

Now he turned southwest, where he heard a certain Teumessian Fox was wrecking havoc in Tennessee.

Stand beside or step aside,

Dain had gotten more than just a meal from Mr. Rivers, the man had given Dain a few boxes of celestial bronze shotgun shells, and they worked fabulously. He had already killed three cyclopes that had charge after him all at once, morons.

But the real gift had been his words, they had helped him, if only for a short time. His dreams were still haunted by what he wanted most but could not attain. So he still hunted, looking for what he knew wasn't there.

Dain currently was riding down the highway, maxing out the speedometer at near 250 mph, he knew he was going faster. What he was chasing could never be captured, it was so decreed by fate, by Atropos. He was chasing the Teumessian Fox. Dain was never one to give a ******** about fate, especially Atropos who was probably torturing Clear's soul as he chased down this damned fox.

It was always a meter or two away from him, throwing traffic aside with its large bulk with ease. He looked down at his fuel gauge, damn... The high speeds are burning up energy to fast for it to be recycled properly.

They took a turn down to a dirt road the went off the highway and towards a small town, "********.. its probably gana do some damage if I let it keep this up..." he said to himself, not really knowing why he had gained that habit.

Then he saw a young girl being chased by a large dog. She had jet black that had other colors died into it for effect, and looked like she was used to running and doing other such activities because she was giving the dog a good race, but it was gaining. The girl wore black jeans and a really colorful shirt and colorful bracelets on her arms.

Dain recognized the dog and he smiled, there was a way to kill two birds with one stone. Dain pulled out the shotgun and aimed it at the dog.

He fired but missed and the creature was able to catch the girl in the leg. She screamed and pulled a dagger out from a hidden sheath and stabbed the dog's muzzle, making it let go.

Dain fired again, this time catching both the dog's and the girl's attention. The dog then saw the fox and old rivalry took place from there. The dog that caught everything it chased and the fox that could never be caught both turned to stone as the magical and fatal paradox took hold on reality.

"Your lucky you survived," Dain said as he pulled his helmet off after driving up to the injured girl, "That was Laelaps, the dog that catches everything it chases."

Get on the Front lines!

She glared coldly, ripping her arm away from him, "I know who that was." Her voice was thick with anger, "I could've gotten rid of that beast myself." She rolled her eyes, keeping weight off her injured leg, she'd gotten worse the past few years.

Looking up at him, an apologetic smile crossed her lips, "I'm sorry. I'm being rude. It's just, I've been trying to kill that damn dog for weeks. All I had to do was summon that Teumessian Fox." She brushed herself off, "I'm guessing you're a half-blood yourself?" that was rhetorical, she knew he was.

Limping, she made it the short distance to the road and picked up her Suzuki, the bike a bit dented from having hit the ground earlier too harshly. She ignored the pain of the three punctures in her leg and the broken fibula and threw her injured leg over the bike, mounting it. Her helmet was gone, she'd have to buy a new one, again. "C'mon, we can have formal introductions in town." Then she started her bike and tore off down the dirt road, passing the stone animals without a look back.

Dain smiled through it all, she reminded him of his older sister Abbi. Of course she had run off with the enemy but hey.

Shrugging, Dain put his helmet back on and started up his bike. He nearly laughed because of what she was riding, a crotch rocket, he hadn't seen one of them in years.

The Athenian warrior followed close behind, keeping a close watch over the girl's injured leg.

She stopped now. They'd ridden into town and how stopped in the town square, which was hardly considered a town square with how small it was. Only a few people roamed the streets as climbed off her bike, kicking down the kickstand. As before, she had to limp to get up the short amount of stairs and into a small building with a sign that read, "Dr. Robert Harley M.D". She glanced over her shoulder and nodded her head for him to follow, "It's my uncle's, we can talk while he fixes my leg."

Dain nodded as he got off the bike and took the keys out of the ignition. Sure it was a nice town, but the bike was even nicer. He brought the helmet in with him, just because he wanted to and asked the girl as she limped, "Sure you don't need any help?'

"I'm fine." She smiled as she jumped up on the ocunter, it was closed today, it being a Sunday and all. nothing was open but Church and a small general store down the street. "Uncle Rob?" She called into the back, and then returned her eyes to the mysterious guy, "I'm Tyler. What a welcome to Martyrsville, Tennessee, huh?" She didn't sound remotely like she was from Tennessee, if anything, from the East Coast, maybe Virginia.

She had the same accent as Clear, Dain noticed with a wince. Still, he wasn't going to let that stop him from meeting a new family member. Dain considered what his next move, should he start a new life and go by an alias or maybe should he just go by his real name.

He decided to go by an alias... for now, "Names Douglas," he said with a smile and then a question popped into his head, "Marytrsville? What this town got a history of dieing for what it believes in?"
PostPosted: Mon May 26, 2008 2:04 pm

Tyler eyed him suspiciously for a few moments before answering his question, "You could say that. It was back during Salem. Witches would proclaim themselves, then killed for being what they were. They were the martyrs, and cosidering that it was the entire city council that was burned at the stake, they changed the name from Hudsonville to Martyrsville."

"What've you gotten yourself into this time, Tyler?" His voice was rough and filled with stress, but the accent thick Tenesseen, that was for sure. The tall balding man stepped through a door and smiled at the two.

"Uncle Rob, this is Douglas. He helped me put my bike back together a little bit ago. I hit a pothole and flipped. He was kind enough to stop and help out." Tyler smiled at her uncle and then Dain, "But my bike pinned my leg into barbed wire, and I think I broke something."

"Well, let's see." Rob rolled up her pantleg to the knee, examining the holes and bruising. "I think it's just that fibula you broke. No cast needed, just gotta relax for a few weeks. But those punctures are gonna need stitched. Lord almighty, girl, did you spin your leg around on the barbs to get the holes that big?" He then returned to the back of the small building.

"My uncle is mortal, so he doesn't see things like we do. Nor does anyone else in this town." Tyler looked up at Dain, smiling, "So don't mention stuff like monsters or gods around them. Unless you're talking about the Lord. They're big about him."

Rob reappeared with a hooked needle and thick thread and some gauze and hydrogen peroxide. "I didn't even bother with the painkillers this time, I knew you'd refuse them anyway." He said jokingly as he pulled a chair up to level himself with Tyler's leg. He threaded the needle quickly and then poked her, she winced in response, and then he continued to stitch up the three holes in her lower left leg.

Dain grinned at the older man's comment, "Heh, painkillers? Don't see the point in them myself, all they do is dull your mind and slow your reaction time." and that split secound can mean the diffrence between life and death, Dain's thoughts finished where his mouth couldn't.

He wish he hadn't left his Ipod back at camp, but they wouldn't be able to reach him otherwise.the note he had left had been addressed to Clear, but the meaning had been directed to everyone.

If you need me, just call.

"Me neither. I gotta have a clear head if I'm gonna get that GED." She smiled, then winced as he started to stitch up another one of the holes. He cleaned the blood from her leg as he stitched and sprayed each puncture with an icy Saline wash before he stitched it, and again after. Then after he'd stitch it he'd place a gauze pad over it and tape that down. By the time he'd finished, he'd left her with twenty-seven stitches and three large gauze pads on her calf.

"Alright, Tyler. I knew you'd hurt yourself on that damn bike one day." Rob shook his head as he stood and walked back into the back room, "You're free to leave. Be careful though!"

"Thanks, Uncle Rob!" Tyler jumped from the counter, grimacing as her feet met the tile, "Ouch, bad idea."

"Forget about that broken fibula? Take care of that, Tyler, don't be jumping around or running for awhile." He poked his head out the door and smiled at the two, "I'll see you at dinner?"

Tyler rolled down her pant leg as she smiled at her uncle, "Yea, I might bring Douglas too." She waved as she duced out the door, "Bye, Uncle Rob!" Then she was back on her bike.

Dain hadn't really made plans to eat dinner with them, but then again he was running low on supplies. He hadn't really used much of the ambrosia, but he was running short on Nectar Dain doubted they had any of that sweet stuff. Still, it would be good to get some real food.

Dain walked up to his own bike and said, "Well he seems nice. So tell me, how did you figure it out?"
PostPosted: Mon May 26, 2008 8:32 pm

"Uncle Rob is amazing." Tyler grinned, refraining from starting her bike, "My mother told me. Athena had decided I should know what I am before I was killed. So she told me. Now it's easier to explain the weird happenings around here."

She looked puzzled for a few moments, "Even if she hadn't spoken to me, but I knew about this world, I would've guessed I was the daughter of Athena. My IQ ranked at nearly 230 when I last tested a few weeks ago. I'm a genius, but I'm lazy. I dropped out after dad died and moved here with Uncle Rob and Aunt Helen. They take care of me, and I don't let the monsters destroy this little town."

Then Tyler started her Suzuki, smiling at Dain, "But I would've stayed back in Virginia if Athena had never told me about this, that Laelops would try and destroy this town. That's the main reason I came here. Else I would've moved in with one of my old friends and her dad, instead of Rob and Helen." Her smile faded slightly, "I haven't heard from her in a few weeks, she usually calls me. I hope shes alright, shes just not one to forget about me." Then her smile brightened again, "But I'm sure she's fine, she's a strong girl." A giggle pressed her lips, "So, Douglas," She stressed his name, "Tell me why I can't know your real name."

Dain took a double take of Tyler when she announced her parent so casually, and then when she just blasted through his alias, "I'm not in good terms with our mother... Or any god for that matter. So, I don't like to same my first name. Names have power," Dain then reached in his bag pulled out a Ziplock bag with a yellow square in it.

"Thats ambrosia, food of the gods. It'll heal that fibula right up, tastes good to. I got some nectar here as well but I'm saving that for when I'm to injured to chew," then he zipped his bag back up and asked, "So where we gana go before dinner? Go hunt down a few Hell hounds? Make sure the Big Z hasn't unfroze or fox and dog pals, or maybe look for a Micky D's and fight a hydra over a cheeseburger that isn't even how you ordered it. Life as a half-blood sure is grand, ain't it?"
