“Click” Josh lazily pushed the operating button on the polished metal surface next to a pair of rather small elevator doors. It lit up like a soft beacon. He hummed a high and pleasant tune to himself while he waited for the machine to surface and opens its metallic chops for him like a greedy beast ready to consume another helpless sacrifice. If you chose to look at it that way that is... However, Josh was simply meandering and rather bored today. He was preoccupied with tapping his foot on the tiled floor and fidgeting impatiently while waiting for the stainless steel doors to cascade open. The boy had just left one of his friend’s apartments and was rather displeased that their time together had been cut short when his girlfriend arrived at the doorstep. He couldn’t help but feel like the notorious third wheel if he had stayed though. His eyes wandered as he began to ponder what he should do with the rest of his afternoon. Hopefully, the coffee shops weren’t too busy…
“Ding” Josh smiled and was pleased to see that he was the only one in the barren elevator as of now. Josh eagerly bustled into the mirrored box and settled against a railing. The tune he was humming continued to spill from his lips.

"Dude, cut the crap.""I'm not doing anything, relax! I'm just not quite finished with it yet. There's a couple more I wanna fight again.""Again? Ugh... Fine. But if you take longer then a week on those time attacks, I'm gonna kick your a**. I want my Colossus back..."There was a light sound of a raspberry being blown and then a slam of a door. If he messed it up, she wouldn't be lending her games out anymore. She was tired of wanting to play them while they were at other peoples houses and not having access. Anita sighed, pulling her messenger bag over her shoulder. Usually it was packed with a sketchbook or two and some drawing tools, but today it was packed with Nintendo 64 cartridges, Playstation 2 games, and her DS games, complete with said DS. This friend of hers, Theodore, served as her super-gamer-break. When she wasn't at work among the games, and she wasn't at home playing games, then she was here, in this apartment building, playing still more games. He usually got the newer ones, where as she didn't have much money to purchase the new systems, and she liked to stick with the older ones anyway. She took her time walking down the hall, being on one of the higher levels, and finally meandered over to the elevator, pressing the button in with her thumb. Her hands nestled themselves inside her jean pockets and she moved to settle her back against the wall until the familiar ding was presented and the doors opened. This prompted her to start humming old SNES tunes, namely from the original Star Fox game. Upon entering she paid the other in there no mind aside from making eye contact and offering him a friendly smile, but her goal was an exit. Taking note of the floor he had chosen, she pressed the button labeled '1' and watched it glow for a moment. It was then she resumed her previous posture of leaning against the wall, this time with her head back and eyes closed, humming quieter now, but still the same tune. 'Doo. Do do, de doo. Doo. Do do. Do do, de doo. Doo. Do, do do. Doot doot doot do de doo.'

As David the apartment complex's management office, he bowed politely to the elderly Mr. Johnson, finishing his leave with a handsome smile, "Thank you again for your time, sir. I really appreciate you taking time out of your hectic schedule to see me. Please, call me whenever you foresee an opening."
The balding man nodded pleasantly, standing in the doorway of his pitiful office, his feeble but charming wave seeing David off around the corner. The young man flashed one last grin at the senior citizen before turning his head back around and ,whipping his cell phone out of his pocket, immediately began to lose the warm, friendly aura he had previously possessed. Pausing for a minute at the elevator, he dialed the lovely "Susan"'s number and tapped his foot impatiently until a sickeningly sweet "Hellllooo -giggle-" greeting rang throughout his ears. The Prince Charming mask was slipped back on.
"Good afternoon Susan," he purred, satisfied when a flirtatious giggle responded to this simple greeting. Glancing down at his watch, he continued his conversation with the obnoxious woman, intertwining professionalism with intimacy, "Did you still want to meet up this afternoon? -he chuckled softly- You know, I've been dying to see you again."
Another outburst of unattractive squeals and schoolgirl snickers.
"Oh DAVID! It's only been a week!" "Week and a half, dearest," he corrected, and shifting to a concerned tone, "Or..are you too busy to see me? ...'Nother guy I suppose. Much more handsome.. suppose I didn't treat you as a woman should be tr--" "Oh gosh, boy, NO! Please, please, come right up!! I'll be ready in five."
Smirking devilishly, David closed his phone, slid it back into his pocket and then pressed the elevator button lethargically, despite his grin. By the sixth tap of his impatient foot, as if summoned, the elevator doors appeared and slid open with an impressive hissing noise. Entering the steel cage, David barely glanced over its passengers, carefully taking mental notes of his observations: athletic male teenager and innocent but oddly charming young woman. His smile seemed to fade just a bit at the sight of the other male, but something in him reassured him that the two were not together. Pushing his luck as he always does, David then took a position between the two, carefully eyeing the girl to his left.
Simple. Cute. But, *sigh*. The gamer type.

Josh’s auburn eyes flicked up to meet the cozy smile the braided girl presented to him. He flashed her a toothy grin as well but remained firmly planted to the mirrored wall behind him. He seemed more transfixed with his own reflection than with having a conversation. He twirled a strand of his hair idly and repositioned a few wandering tresses back into place. Josh sighed as the elevator churned and jumped signaling it was ready to stop again… of course it wasn’t on the floor that he wanted. Josh didn’t really care about the large man who swaggered into the lackluster metal box or that he cut into the hospitable atmosphere of the elevator like a knife. What did bother him was the fact that the man seemed to be giving the two of them a once over like some slab of meat. Apparently, the girl in the corner was proving more delicious to him because he kept his wolfish gaze fixed on her; as if he was ready to gobble her up at any second.
The elevator door closed sluggishly and it began its decent again. However the walls seemed to rattle a bit more frequently now and Josh couldn’t help but feel a touch of nervousness at the slight turbulence the elevator was falling into. The area around him seemed to creak and the boy could feel panic seep into his stomach at each awkward rattle that fired off next to his ear.

Anita wasn't particularly a fan of elevator's as it was. Despite her dislike for real movement, she much preferred stairs; and this was exactly the reason why.
It had never occurred to her before, but she was always in fear of it. Whenever the elevator began moving she felt like she was on a miniature roller coaster ride--she could feel her insides rise up while the rest of her went down, and it often left her feeling nauseas and shaky. Because of this, she paid even less attention to the newest addition to the elevator and kept her gaze fixed on the glowing buttons, waiting for hers to stop shining and for the doors to open and let her off and out of this place.
But it seemed luck was against her, and the other two unfortunate victims she currently shared space with.
The descent slowed as it became noisier, creaking and scratching along the walls that held it so close. A feeling of dread settled in the very pit of her stomach when she pictured the cables swaying wildly above them, ready to snap and send them plummeting to certain doom. Overhead, the lights began to flicker, and eventually, as the chamber came to a complete stop, they were engulfed in darkness.
"s**t.." there were sounds of shuffling as she tore through her bag, plucking out something small and silver. Flipping it open, a small rectangle of light illuminated her face and she began pointing the cell phone around the elevator as a makeshift flash light.

Shaking. Disturbingly aggressive shaking.
David let out a restrained curse as he felt the floor panels beneath him shake violently, forcing his back against the wall. The eerie sounds of some kind of beast tearing away at the steel walls made the hairs on David's neck stand fearfully, but he tried his best to maintain his composure. ...That is until, the lights went out. And thank god for it. In the darkness, David's horrified face could not be seen and all that could be imagined was this office type of worker cursing profusely in surprise, not horrible, pitiful vulnerability. As the turbulence subsided and the elevator chamber came to a ghastly halt, David winced as the girl beside him drew out her cell phone and the screen's lighting shone directly into his eyes. Looking at the newly lit floor in hopes of adjusting his eyes, he slowly pulled out his own cell phone and searched for Susan's number.
Rinnnngg. Rinnngg-- Click! "Yes? David, where are you?"
"Yeah. So. I'll be running a little late. Let's reschedule for next week, kay?" And lacking the overwhelming courtesy from before, David shut the cell phone before the woman even had time to think. Great. Date canceled. Apartment unavailable. Trapped in an elevator with two strangers.
"If one of you are a murderer in disguise, please, me first," David joked dryly, his frustration simmering but attempting at being fairly maintained.

Josh’s heart nearly leapt from his chest as the elevator tumbled and groaned then finally cut off into an eerie silence. The steel carriage gave off one last growl as it scraped against the outside walls and settled somewhere between the ninth and tenth floors. Josh could also feel his chest tighten and the spasm and thump of the startled organ grow muffled as his veins ran cold. Frantic thoughts began to cross his mind. However, those wearisome notions were put to rest rather quickly as a rather bright LCD screen flashed in his face and made him tense up. The boy’s eyes squinted closed painfully as the two next to him messed with their cell phones. The boy’s slim hand also dug into his own pocket and pulled out a petite orange cell. He flicked it open rather unceremoniously letting the minute rays of light wash over the rest of the elevator and pool in the corners of their cage.
Josh didn’t care much for David’s dry humor but let out a faint chuckle anyway. It was more to calm his own nerves rather than humor the older man.

Well now. Her first full day back in Durem, and this is what happens. What luck she must have. Her mind wandered over several things as she cast the light of her screen over the numerous buttons on the panel, searching helplessly for a dark red one, or a small one near a speaker. There didn't seem to be the latter, so speaking directly with the apartment staff from the elevator wasn't an option unless she was totally blind and missed it by miles--she would need to kill herself later if that was the case, merely out of stupidity.
After a few minutes her light went out, and she cursed vapidly, fumbling with her buttons until one was finally pressed and it lit up again. There was an emergency stop button.. that would serve no purpose, though she was certain the staff got prompted whenever it was pressed, and so she did just that in the hopes of such occurring.
She had opened her mouth to speak as David whipped out his own cell phone, wanting to ask on his signal strength, but shut her lips tightly as he spoke to some one, swiftly closing it after. That was all he was going to do? Cancel a date and then make some "witty" retort?
Ani sighed. This was way too frustrating; trapped in a pitch black elevator with two strange men in a part of the world she hadn't been to in years. Awesome.
"I don't know the Durem emergency number... I'm gonna call my friend, see if he can't let the staff know what's happening.." as she spoke she addressed both of them, and neither of them at the same time; an announcement with no real care whether they paid her any mind or not, but it seemed to be the best plan, and it definitely beat waiting out however long it would take for the higher ups to catch on by themselves.

Josh's shaky laughter made David frown intensely. Sliding onto the ground, arms resting on his prominent knees, David made a small note not to get too close to the boy on his right. The kid seemed to be reacting to the situation the worst, and David had seen one too many psychological thrillers to conclude that wherever frantic teens like this were located, they somehow caused all of the cast to die. Closing his stormy eyes thoughtfully, the young man tried his best to stay calm. Ah. But something else also needed to be taken care of. As he watched his female companion try her luck once again, shifting from the elevator shaft's button panel to her cell phone's, David reached into his own pocket once again and called home. He released an irritated sigh, forced once again to listen to the annoying ringing session necessary for call-making. Finally a click, but unlike before, this female's voice seemed to echo throughout David's hellhole as the usually sweet voice of his younger sister screamed,
"DAVID! I THINK I BROKE YOUR MUG. AGAIN. DO YOU WANT ME TO TRY AND FIX IT OR OR...OH GOSH. I'M SO SO SORRY--" and the exclamation was muffled as the young man clasped the cell phone in a silencing death grip, a dark look across his features. Silence was restored.
"Nami. Nami. Nami. NAMINI NAO," he hissed. "Calm down. I'll fix it lat--I don't care about that right now. Call Henry. Tell him I'll be late. No... Yes. I am alive, just not too happy. Later. --I'll tell you l--Shutupwillyou?!" Both receiver and speaker became quiet and David raised a hand to his temple. Oh, siblings were so frustrating. He flashed both Josh and Anita apologetic smiles before continuing in a tired voice.
"Just..Just call Henry and tell him. No. Not a car accident, elevator entrapment, kay? 'Kay. Bye," he sighed, thankful that one of the stupidest calls in his life was over. Shutting his phone, he slid it back into his pocket and covered his face with his hands, now obviously upset.

Josh rotated his cell over to Ani to aid in her search. Even though David’s face wasn’t illuminated at the moment he could still feel the man’s sharp grey eyes on him. Josh wriggled uncomfortably under the scrutiny of his gaze and took a seat on the ground like his male cohort. However, Josh chose Indian style rather than hugging his knees close; the last thing he needed to do was allow himself to go into a fetal position. He watched as Ani fumbled with the various buttons of the elevator and likewise with the buttons on her cell phone. He would have called his parent as well, but they currently thought he was safely tucked away in his room studying for a calculus test. They really needed to get a safety lock for the boy’s window.
Josh’s ears perked at the mention of a familiar name. He looked through the darkness shrouding David’s face and cooed at him, “Did you say Namini Nao?”

The name, though it obviously held some familiarity to Josh, meant nothing to Ani, and so she turned away from the conversation, holding the cell phone close to her ear and her other hand over the opposite one to keep herself and Theodore from being drowned out in their idle chat.
Ringing was monotonous, and she showed the same frustration as David had when he had been on the receiving end, but to her surprise and growing anger, her friend did not pick up. "If you're not answering 'cause you're playing my game, I'm gonna kill you..." she muttered through her teeth, pulling the phone away in a huff when she heard the pre-recorded voice pick up. Five minutes, then she would call again, but now...
She returned the cell phone to her bag, resting at the top of her collection of cartridges and CD cases, and set it down in the corner near David, plopping herself right beside it with one leg propped up, using her arm on it as a pillow. What was there to do? Wait. That was all they could do, and for now, she wouldn't interrupt them.

David raised his hands away from his face, stretching his arms back into their original position atop his knees. He raised a curious brow in Josh's general, darkened direction but his eyes flashed nothing short of dangerously suspicious. Who was this kid? It didn't seem quiet appropriate to be flat out rude to the boy, for maybe he was a mere classmate of Namini's or maybe he was-- No. David's overprotective mind had already drawn three disastrous profiles to apply to this foreign teenager:
1. He was some kind of stalker. 2. He was a bully. (David briefly remembered the younger years in which his sister was constantly needing rescue. -sigh- They grow up so quickly.) or 3. The boy was a hazardous player-type seeking to claim Namini as his latest piece of "turf."
Whatever option this stranger was, David was not happy that a boy was asking about his sister. Once several, awkward moments of silence had passed though, the Nao brother thought it would be best to sniff around before firmly accusing anyone of anything. Tilting his head backwards against the wall, David shot Josh a haughty look, but kept his voice calm and unsuspecting,
"Yes, Namini happens to be my younger sister. I'm her brother, David. And if I happen to be so bold, may I ask you what your name is and what is your relationship with my sister?--Ah."
Something new drew in David's womanizing attention instead: The resting girl beside him. She seemed bored and somewhat uncomfortable, and so, deciding it was best to just get cozy, David removed his coat and offered it to her. Smiling, he purred, "Here. Just in case you want a blanket or something."

Josh wasn’t even fazed by the inspecting looks David shot at him mainly due to the fact he couldn’t see them. The light on his cell phone had long since faded into nothing leaving the modest space they occupied completely obscured. Josh slowly tucked the phone back away into his pocket. The air was tense around them as he waited for a response from David. The boy’s eyes grew wide in shock as his mind tried to wrap around David’s answer, “Ah, you are her brother. She never mentioned that she had one to me. Umm, I’m Josh and it is a pleasure to meet you David. I guess you could call me her friend, I see her around a bit.” He gave David a cheeky smile even though it probably wasn't seen.
Josh took notice of the girl on the other side of the elevator next. It was even harder to see her and Josh could only pray that his eyes would grow adjusted to the dimness soon. While they were exchanging introductions he decided to go ahead and pull her into the conversation. Hopefully, it would save her from a painful death at the hands of boredom. “So may I ask what you name is miss?” He could already feel himself growing more calm under their current situation. All they could do now was wait and hope that the air didn't run out or something.

Her mind had wandered, not paying attention to the two males in the same space. No, what her mind was on now was getting out, and then getting some food. Only now, that food was impossible to get, did she realize just how hungry she was, as well as the fact that all she had had for breakfast was a couple of donut holes--hardly filling, though exceptionally delicious. It took her a few moments to register that Josh had actually been a dressing her, despite the fact that she was the only 'miss' within current proximity.
"...Hmm? Oh! Sorry. Um. Anita." no last names for these two, and especially not for the older gentleman. Disregarding her newly instated legality, she was quite opposed to fraternizing with older people outside of a family or professional relationship. Quite frankly, it creeped her out. But still, the gesture was appreciated, though she was currently the opposite of cold. The elevator was down right muggy. "Thank you.." Ani patted the coat now near her leg, to let David know what she was giving her gratitude towards.
"Either of y'all been stuck in one of these before?" her annoyed tone was shown more as a slight drawl accompanied her words.
