So, right after watching The Lost Kingdom yesterday [Which was an above average movie for me] I went to the mall to play some video games, right. Almost every week I spend an average of $15 and play for about 4-6 hours until my back starts hurting. It hurts less now because I'm used to it and also I'm working out a little; Playing DDR didn't help the cause. xd
I play at the arcade and practice video games A LOT, as well as my brother who is without a doubt better than me in some aspects. [And is able to spot the broken parts of ANY game he spots] The thing is, I'm getting the urge to go again today.
Now I'm asking if I should not go today, because I'd rather be practicing some other games [Maplestory, KoF 2002, Magical Drop, or otherwise] but on the other hand, Soul Calibur 4 is in the arcade now, along the the usual KoF Neowave/Atomiswave, T5DR, and DDR, and it might get fixed at any time. [The staff bought the thing with a broken monitor, was what I was told. {They also might get a new MvC2 machine, which was for some unknown good forsaken reason was taken out, crazy...}]
This was more a self-thought thread, but I thought I might just type this to just do so. I don't know what I'm doing. I could've just typed this in my journal if I wanted to reflect on this. Why am I here? Ah well, I typed all this, might as well post it...

...Beeeeeecause video games are basically my life. Seriously, though, I just love video games. Some of you know how much. To an extent, maybe, but the point remains.

I get what you mean; I'm rather the video game enthusiast myself as well.
But an arcade gamer? Maybe it's just because I live in a small town, but the arcade gamer is quite rare. All you see or hear of nowadays are PC and Console gamers, my own personal specialty being the the latter.
I do have that unique love for arcade games though. I mostly prefer games like Do Donpachi and Aero Fighters, but I don't know the name of the genre. I also REALLY love Virtual On. While other of my friends were highly enjoying the virtual on styled minigame on Xenosaga ep 1, I couldn't help but feel extremely disappointed from the lack of arcade feel.
I think I want to play more fighters though, maybe not just at arcades. Brawl has opened my eyes to Melee competitively, which is opening my eyes to other fighters. You know when SC4 gets released on console and what consoles for?

I think I want to play more fighters though, maybe not just at arcades. Brawl has opened my eyes to Melee competitively, which is opening my eyes to other fighters. You know when SC4 gets released on console and what consoles for? I do all three of those at the same time. Arcade is basically console though, as many of the fighting arcade games are converted from/to consoles. [Rejoices at the slight fact that our mall might get another MvC2 machine so I can get owned by the mnstreetfighters. xp] PC games though, I'm a bit short on money, and my labtop can't play the shooters. Otherwise, I'd be playing Zombie on CS or CoD, much less Audition. [Tried and failed.] Sometimes, I play the arcade games as well, like Silent Scope, House of the Dead, and mostly shooters. I would TRY racers like Initial D and Maximum Tune, but I can't spend the time and money to play those games while practicing other games. [As much as I like multi-tasking] As for SC4, it MIGHT come out for all consoles, but that's just my theory. I think you can check sites like GameFAQs. Well, this site is the ONLY one I look on for the basic help on a game; I don't like any other site for some odd reason. [Even though all the boards are pretty...ugly.] No arcade version... rolleyes I WOULD play Brawl, but I'm practicing other games and don't really get the time for it. My brother's friend has the game, but I can't go over to his house because I'm allergic to cats. Even then, I would lose memory of the techniques in the game due to the intervals of time I pass if I were to play Brawl. [No wavedashing means people who practiced that on Melee are screwed.]

Brawl's technique is a joke. Seriously. You don't got anything to worry about. Supposively a "hard" technique to do now is a short hop and lag without lag, which is only hard if you don't immediately press the attack that will work with it. Really, if you can't do that, then you're just proving how bad you were at Melee. The only other difficult things, off the top of my head are zap jumping, and glide tossing with Lucas. But, isn't it a little ironic that you are allergic to cats?
PC gaming has always been a turnoff to me. Owning first a 98 then upgrading to a Vista has kept me from playing PC games, but I might try to get a flashdrive so I can play some Spore. As long as I can play Spore, I think the money will be worth it.
Gamefaqs is my main universal gaming site, but after joining smashboards (lol, smashfandom), I've noticed myself going there less and less. I'll check it out later I guess.
I'm unfortunate with arcades, since we recently lost our own town's mini arcade that was at the waterslides, and now since Metrotown's Playdium being removed, I no longer have a nice place to play my favourite arcade games. Yeah yeah, I know any lurking Vancouverites, there's a new arcade there, and while I did find Do Donpachi there once, I never saw it there on my last visit, and that was the only game that interested me. :/
I really don't view Arcade as a console. Arcade is a different feeling. A gun, a wheel and peddles, a joystick and buttons; there's really nothing like the feeling of playing an arcade games. Some things are just not the same.
What consoles do you have anyway?

Yeah, I kind of heard about the new stuff from my brother. [He used to play a mean Jigglypuff and Marth on Melee. Forgot who he played on Brawl...] Short hop, safe lag...Hyper Magnetic Tempest...xp
For the cat thing, I don't think I USED to be allergic to cats. I mean, I remember being around a cousin's cat all the time. Nowadays....SICKNESS!!!
Meh, I don't know what I was saying by arcade is it's own console, or whatever, but it definitely has [as you said] a different feeling. [Especially when playing against certain players on a sit-down MvC2 cabinet...Geez...All the mashing that rocked the machine. And the guy was able to pull through...]
I only own a Ps2. Yeah. Didn't upgrade yet, or multi-console. Usually I get enough experience when I visit different relative's houses on occasion. [Rainbow Six Vegas 2, most likely.] I and my brother still don't think there are enough worthy games to get the new systems. [Although if I had the money, I'd get a 360, a real internet connection, and a copy of Rainbow Six. Specifically. I think my brother would agree, but we're too busy being fanboys of our own desires. xp ]

Eh, I choose not to be an Arcade Gamer namely because it's big of a money sink. sweatdrop And everyone in my area that is an Arcade Gamer is usually into Initial D. And whenever I play I get a challenge and get my butt handed to me because I'm in the second, third zone and they've beaten the game twice. sweatdrop
BUT if I have money and am bored and with friends, then yeah I'll do some Street Fighter or Soul Caliber or Melty Blood. Not much else, though. Terrible at DDR.

@Druki- I think that's probably why I play the games I do. It's not even really possible for games like Aero Fighters to be competitive, so I can hone my skills and help others get good, and while Virtual On is sorta a fighter, it's usually alone in it's corner, so I can play to my hearts content. Nice to blow that steam, but the whole "losing quarters" can sometimes upset it.
@MonJ- If it's any consolation, my Wii broke. I'm going to get it fixed early june, around a time of a Melee/Brawl tournament. So for now I'm stuck with my memory cardless PS2 and a Gamecube, not always the most fun combonation.
Sitdown? At an arcade? Ha! Stools aren't for me. I love standing while playing them, racers are obviously an exception. Only others that I really play sitting down are those RPGs like Golden Axe or Gauntlet (which is terrible for having a timer, wtf!) that take awhile to play through.
@ks- I find it nice that I found someone who may be as much as a gamer-geek as myself without being too much of a fanboy/fangirl.

ks: These comments are vaguely familiar....
Druki: If the owner/manager isn't a douche, then being an arcade gamer shouldn't be so bad for your wallet.
Oh pika, Melty Blood? MELTY BLOOD?!?!?! *Shudders* Ah well, better than nothing.
Mercain: Stools aren't for you, but they are for people like me who play MvC2. Well, they really weren't neccessary, but having TWO SITDOWN MvC2 cabinets are legendary. And like above, our manager happens to suck. Like, really. Every owner/manager that we get makes the arcade worser than the previous one. MAYBE, just MAYBE, that "SC3" machine will work. [A Soul Calibur 3 cabinet with a Soul Calibur 2 game. question A staff worker showed me] For some reason, they got it with a broken monitor, but hey, it's better than nothing, right? Might be fixed by the end of this week, but with the manager looking at it... [Just rumors about his background, though]
P.S: King of Fighters machine MIGHT [by a stroke of luck for me] become an MvC2 machine! Cabinet however... confused

Don't flame me for this, but I've actually never played, nor seen much on, MvC2. :/ It's one of the things I've always heard of a lot, and wanted to try, but yeah. Supposively though tiers are super important in that game though, gotta be like, Cable, Storm, Magneto and a few others or you get rocked.
By the way, what do you mean by "cabinet"? I'm kinda lost with the arcade terminology.
@ks- Shush, you. Type lots words too. Embrace your inner gamer!

Ks: Words are food for the soul. :halo'd monk:
Mercain: I guess MvC2 is only for the truly devoted, like WoW. But to a less extent. Still played regardless of it's retroness because of the "secrets" still hidden in the game. [Along with bugs, "glitches", and confusing mechanism due to the crossover of charaters; some glitches ARE banned though. MvC2 is a serious competitive game, among one of the best still today]
You don't necessarily need to choose Cable, Storm, and Magneto; these guys are just common names. Plus, the team kind of sucks compared to MSS [Magneto, Storm, Setenel. MSP {Psylocke} is out now. xp }] A majority of the characters are supposedly "not good", but they're just not played as much because no one really practices them. [That, or the character is just plain bad to choose.] I haven't played in a while, but I usually choose Gambit, Juggarnaut, and Captain Commando, if not Omega Red, Silver Samurai, and Jin. Otherwise I choose everyone, even team Low Tier. pirate
Cabinet means the arcade machine itself, but not the game. The game is [I think] called the "system", because its what makes the game work, thus, the system. Cabinets can be big, small, short, tall, and wide. [Wide, in the case of games like House of the Dead, Time Crisis, etc.]
Our mall had an TWO EXTREMELY RARE ONE OF A KIND SITDOWN CABINETS FOR MvC2!!! [Not ranting at you, but rather the manager who took out the arcade] You don't find those anywhere in the U.S anymore, much less the world. It's just as rare as trying to find the Ps2 copy of MvC2. If you do, then props and can I come to play? [XboX ver. is just not going to cut it for competitive play] However, the staff could find no more parts to repair the continually breaking joysticks/buttons, so they had to give it away. Rumor says that it went to another mall, but that would be bad. Mind you, the competitive players who mashed and even made a ruckus at times were NOT responsible for breaking the machines.
P.S, used a lot of paren... xp
