Chih-kai, a small squirrel and aid to one of the four pirate lords of the otters, ran up to his mistress, chittering wildly until a thwack of her strong tail sent him rolling backwards into a bush. Shih Ching grit her teeth and stared intently into the water below her for a moment. Silence passed as Chih-kai slowly made his way out of the bush. And then, like lightning, the elder's silver-clawed paw shot out and swiped a large fish from the water and turned, pouncing on it as it flopped on the bank. She crushed the thing's neck beneath her paws and glared at her aid.
"Do not interrupt my concentration again, Hsu. I might hit harder," she said as he slowly walked back up to her. Her face broke into a small smile and she tilted her head at him, whiskers rising slightly. "Now, what did you want to tell me?"

The water rippled somewhat nearby the other otter and her lackey and three pronged horns slowly slid out from under the glossy surface. A dark body could be seen swimming just below the waters edge, the water distorting his full image, but you could tell he was moving by his tail whipping the water about. Finally his head slid out of the water, his eyes narrowed as he continued to glide in the water.

Chih-kai chittered out his report on her territory and she nodded as she scrapped the scales from the fish. "I'm rather disappointed in the otters here. None of them seem to be very talented in the art of battle," she sighed, stretching out one paw, her claws flashing in a patch of sunlight among the shade. What she really meant was how the lack of superior warriors, namely demons like herself, was saddening. She was of the bias that demons were superior because they were built to fight, with more pronounced claws, horns and tusks, and the sharp spines on their fins.
Shih's companion shrugged and moved his paws in an "I wish I could help, Mistress" kind of gesture. She merely shook her head and sat, nibbling on a bit of her kill. Chih-kai plucked a tufted plant stalk, plopped down near his mistress, and nibbled quietly on the end.

Cornelius stopped his swimming when he noticed movement near the brush on shore. He turned himself to see who it was and narrowed his eyes further. It couldn't be....could it? He dived under to swim closer and get a better look. He popped his head out again, not even trying to hide his presence because he was so big and pretty much so frightening he scared of most enemies.

Shih's ears picked up a noise and her head turned towards the water. Her eyes narrowed a bit, squinting at the figure in the water before turning her somewhat near-sighted vision back to her lunch. "Come out of the water, child. It is unwise to sneak up on your elders," she said before cutting off another piece and taking it into her mouth. She wasn't sure exactly what this otter was, all she could tell was that he was a he and that he was slightly smaller than she.

He glared lightly before swimming to the shore and climbing out. His claws dug into the mud and gravel and he didn't bother shaking off, just letting the water drip off him as he stalked closer.
A look of shock was on his face for a second before his usually, angry look was back on his face. ".....who are you? I know of no other demonic otters in this territory." he growled, his tail smacking the wet ground for a few moments.

Shih raised her chin slightly in a silent gesture of authority and she smiled a bit. "I was scouting the area, to see how much land I could add onto my own territory. If this area belongs to you, I will take heed of the boundary," she replied, doing her best to ignore his insolent attitude. Chih-kai chittered angrily at the demonic adult, but his mistress held up a paw, silencing him.
"Pay the faux-paux no heed. I doubt he knows any better. I am Mistress Ching, Lord of the Pacific territory. And this is my aid, Chih-kai Hsu," she introduced, inclining her head ever so slightly.

Cornelius' eyes fell on the little squirrel and the look of 'you look like a tasty snack' entered his eyes, a cruel smirk going on his face. He then turned his attention to the slightly bigger adult, growing quiet, fidgeting his paws a bit, "....I have no territory, I am just passing through, like I always am."
He raised an eyebrow when she introduced herself as a pirate lord and he had to wonder if she knew of his father and mother. Thinking of them hurt, and so he pushed the thoughts away, though he was truthful in his answer, "I am Cornelius Barbossa-Swann, youngest child to Hector Barbossa and Elizabeth Swann." he said.

"Ah, you must be their youngest. I know your father well. Good sense of style and honor," Shih paused there, smiling a little sardonically and shaking her head before continuing, "But bad manners. I see now where you get your attitude."
The elder demon curled her tail around Chih-kai and drew him up near her hip. "I was surprised to hear Barbossa had a child of our affiliation. You must take after your mother. Hector didn't strike me to have the... power enough to father a horned-one," she continued, thoughtfully tapping one claw on the half-eaten fish.

Cornelius snorted at her when she said that, sitting himself down heavily, tapping his claws agains the ground, "...mother said it might be because father was once one of the undead...that is why I was the one born a monster." he growled, his eyes narrowing at nothing inparticular.

Shih Ching, an otter known among those that knew her reputation as having a rather aloof and collected, looked at the young otter as if he had just insulted her. And, in truth, he had. For he had just called probably the most vain otter in the entire Oasis a monster.
"You must be joking," she replied, her shock evident in her voice. "Of course, you suffer from bad manners, but that cannot be helped, having your father. And do not tell me that you feel you are a monster because you were born different from your siblings. You, young Cornelius, were born far more gifted than your brother and sister. Do you not realize this?" she asked, straightening a bit more in pride of the manner of otter she was. Her small companion nodded his head furiously, agreeing completely.

He ignored her calling him rude because he was just that, rude and he honestly didn't care how his manners were perceived. It was just the way he was. But her words actually made him pause and he blinked at the Elder Demon, a small frown on his face.
"Gifted? What do you mean by....gifted? Is it because I was born much bigger then them and I can scare off predators?" he asked, quite curious to what she meant. It wasn't everday he ran into another Demonic, an Elder at that.

"You think it a common thing for an otter to put fear into the hearts of those that would prey on you?" Shih asked, giving him a knowing look. She smiled and slowly shook her head. "Look at yourself in the water, really look. Do you not see the strength, the ferocity that is housed within yourself? Our kind was bred to rise above the others, to defend, to fight. You and your family think the reason you were born special was because of your father's past," she paused there, nodding at the bank for him to look, really look, at himself. "I do not think so. Your brother and sister, they received your parents' collective sense of style, their cunning, your father's silver tongue. But you, Cornelius Barbossa-Swann, received something just as valuable."
Here she arched her tail up, holding the spines as far apart as possible and raised a paw, silver claws dappled in red from the fish she had caught. "You were gifted their collective power, their strength. The superior hunting and fighting qualities of two pirate lords," she finished her little speech with a proud smile at her breed as well as her status.

Cornelius drew back a little and clicked his claws, his rounded ears folding back against his head. When she told him to go to the water and look at his reflection, he was tempted to snap at her, not liking to look at himself if he could help it.
But something in the way she seemed to speak pushed him to turn and stalk his way toward the waters edge. He stood and looked down, at first, frowning at what he saw, having always hated the horns that sprouted from his head. But as he continued to listen, his ears perked back up and his eyes grew a little wider. It was if he was seeing himself for the first time.
Yes he was a big otter, bigger then most, save for the Elders, and he was strong, he had to be to protect his family. No, he didn't have the fancy looking cloths or hats his other family had, but the markings he bore seemed to let others know he wasn't to be trifled with. He never gave much thought as to what he might have gained from being the offspring of a pirate lord and pirate king.
He was quiet after she was done speaking, his finned tail slapping against the ground a few times, "....but what am I to do with it? Hunting and fishing can only do so much for me..." he growled out.

Shih nodded, satisfied that he now saw his worth. "Do what you wish. Claim a territory, start a family, the world is yours for the taking. You could even return with me to my territory," she added and surveyed the claws on one paw. "I am in need of warriors to help protect the boarders and those living within. If you want, I could even train you to make better use of the assets you were born with, such as the spines on your fins. Those can come in handy, you know," she finished and listened for a moment as Chih-kai chattered something up at her. "Mmm, yes. We are in need of strong warriors."
