User ImageSharp, serrated teeth ripped through the soft, warm meat, blood trickling down her ruby lips into the dirt. Darkfire had thoroughly enjoyed catching this feast; there was nothing more enthralling than fighting a badger. It was fierce, she'd give it that. But it was no match for her unicorn's horn and her Kalona's determination.
She pulled off a large chunk and began chewing greedily, her emerald eyes keeping a sharp lookout for any other being that tried to take her meal. She hadn't eaten in days; she had preferred to keep well hidden in her cave to wait for the thick, juicy badger to make an appearance. When she saw it again, her hunger got the best of her, and she lunged toward it, severing its spine and killing it after a rather enjoyable tussle. She bore a gash on her cheek, from where it curled around while she had it in her mouth and lashed out with its sharp claws, but she couldn't feel it. The blood had already begun to crust over, a grisly warning for anyone that tried to mess with her.
You're despicable, murmured the unicorn part of her in her head, the horror in the soft voice unmistakable.
You're a disgrace for even listening to that, said the Kalona side, hatred burning like undying embers.
"I don't really care what I am," said the Unikalona mare darkly, using her taloned wings to hold down the carcass as she yanked off another chunk. "Call me names all you want, but without me, neither of you would exist."

Another day has passed but yet the wind mare was still irritated. The flowers annoyed her, thoughts of her family irritated her, and nearly everyone she has come across has angered her even more. Life couldn't get any better. Or so she thought. Perhaps one day she'll find the perfect revenge for her family or for those that have irritated her into oblivion. But for now she needed something to do.

Neva paused in her walk as she finally took a good look around. This was an area she had never seen before. Hopefully none of her family was around. They liked to pop up everywhere she went, or so it seemed. Her ears picked up the sound of someone talking nearby and she snorted in irritation. "Can one never find a place to be alone?" she muttered irritably and hoped to avoid an encounter with the other in the area.

Darkfire's ears swiveled back to pinpoint the location of the voice that floated to her before she even realized that she had heard something. The badger was nearly gone now, the only pieces left being the harsh, tough meat that would be perfect for the little creatures that survived off of it. She enjoyed watching the tiny insects devour the pieces of flesh that she didn't want, enthralled when maggots took their place. The squirming white larvae were her favorite.
Kicking the remains of the carcass into the bushes for safe-keeping, Darkfire began quietly stalking her way through the woods. Her ears were pricked up as high as they would go, taking in every breath she knew came from the thing that spoke. A mare, Soquili, probably younger than she. Darkfire's tail lashed about behind her, scraping along the bark of the trees she passed with an eerie sound that sent chills of excitement up her spine. She folded her wings closer to her body, ready to burst through the foliage to find her prey.
Though the badger was a formidable meal, the Unikalona mare's stomach still grumbled as she smelled the flesh of the other. There was nothing more satisfying than the flesh of one's own kind, a cannibalistic treat.
Darkfire decided for a different plan of attack when she spotted the other mare. Stepping delicately through the bushes, she grinned menacingly.
"What are you doing way out here in my neck of the woods?" she asked in her shockingly smooth voice. Sure, when she was speaking to her Voices or to her doomed prey, her voice was low and gravelly, almost a growl. But, she put on her fake, nearly seductive voice for other Soquili as she attempted to catch them, lulling them into a false sense of security.
Monster! both of her Voices shouted together in her head.

Well apparently one wasn't allowed to be by themselves. Neva snorted in irritation at the other's question. Nor did she bother looking at the other. She lowered her head and nibbled on the grass a few moments before even thinking about answering the question that had been asked her. Raising her head back up she finally turned and looked at the other that has joined her.

"Your neck of the woods? I didn't know your neck was made of trees," Neva said sarcastically as she eyed the horned mare. "As for why I'm here that would be none of your concern." She snorted irritably as she once again turned back to eating the grass and ignoring the horned mare. Perhaps if she kept ignoring it, it'll go away. Fat chance though.

Darkfire let out a chuckle. She remembered once, when that stupid Wind filly that had been obsessed with her wouldn't leave her alone, she laughed like that. It had made the little filly cry and scamper off to find her mother. She had described it as sending an ice cold chill down her spine as she had gotten older, Darkfire tolerating her only because she kept her distance when Darkfire was hungry, and sometimes, helped her corner prey.
What a useless mare, however.
"So you're one for jokes, eh?" Darkfire continued, her emerald eyes glued onto the Wind mare in front of her. She didn't look much like the filly she had scared, but she could see herself tearing her limb from limb, just as she'd imagined doing to the filly all that time ago. A thin smile curled on her lips like poison ivy, her sharp teeth bared. Blood still dripped from her ruby lips, the gash on her cheek limiting her speech just a little. The badger had clawed off a good chunk, but not enough to break all the way through. It got what it deserved. Darkfire stepped closer to the mare, so her face was mere inches from the other's.
"You'd best be on your way," she said darkly, narrowing her eyes. Her unicorn horn was nearly touching the other mare's forehead, and Darkfire kept imagining over and over herself ramming the horn through the mare's skull. But, she held herself back. "Not many come through here to meet me and make it out alive." She inched forward again, the very tip of her horn making contact with the mare's forehead. She didn't press hard, but a few drops of blood trickled out as she pulled away.
"I'll give you to the count of five," Darkfire growled, her lips pulled back in a snarling grin. "I like a challenge. One..."

Neva didn't move once even as the sharp horn pressed against her forehead. Drops of blood trickled down her face and she watched the dark red drops roll down. One particular drop reached down close to her mouth and she let it roll onto the grass she was eating. Pulling her head back up she snorted and glared at the mare with the horn. "A challenge? Why would you want a challenge? But if that's what you want then fine."

Neva walked a few yards away, taking her sweet time about it. Once reaching a spot she lowered her head and nibbled on some more grass. A few seconds later she looked up and snickered. "There. I got on my way and moved. Is this far enough for you?" She smirked as she watched the horned mare's reaction. "Oh and before you try and kill me. Just so you know who your prey's name is. It's Neva."

Darkfire grinned again, a grin that had been described as both alluring and disturbing. "How cute," she said sarcastically. "What a nice name for someone that's about to die."
She took another step closer. Screw counting to five, this mare-- Neva or whatever the hell it was-- wasn't going to play along, and she was hungry now.
"I suppose you'd like to know my name, then?" Darkfire spat. She hung her head lower, glaring up at the mare. Her mane hung in front of her emerald eyes, but she could still see. Her tail thrashed about wildly behind her, her wings spreading out to full capacity. "They whisper stories about me. The herd that lives near here, they use me as a threat to their young," she started quietly, her volume slowly increasing. She began circling the other mare now, her head kept low to be able to strike out at her legs should she try to run. It was always more fun to immobilize them before death. Less of a struggle. "I am the breeze in the trees, the shadow on the moon. I am the stuff of nightmares. I am the Queen of the Wretched, the Bringer of Pain. I am Darkfire." She finished off her introduction with a tremendous growl from deep inside her belly, her eyes still glued to the mare.
"Though you like jokes, I believe you missed the punchline," she said casually in her low, gravelly voice. "This is the part where you run."
You're disgusting, the unicorn side of her wailed.
You're brilliant, said the Kalona side. That side of her loved when she teased prey. Plus, it was just trying to disagree with the unicorn side. Score one for being part Kalona.

"Yay! I'm going to die. Again. Great. Thanks for the story. Now if you don't mind why don't you go back to eating whatever you've killed previously. I'm sure it misses you." Neva moved her wings a shooing motion as she spoke to the mare known as Darkfire. She glared at her lovely 'friend' and waited for her to try to attack. Sure she may not have the horn or even the claws on her wings. But she was stubborn and she wasn't going to let anybody make her go away if she didn't want to. Granted she was a tiny bit nervous but her stubbornness made up for it.

Darkfire's insides were bubbling out of her, her anger growing to new, unprecedented levels. Eh, might as well kill the mare now.
But there was one thing she was wondering first.
"Why aren't you running?" she asked angrily. Her voice was smooth, calm.
Don't engage in some stupid small talk! cried the Kalona side. Kill her!
No, this is good, said the unicorn side. Showing weakness. I like it.
Goddammit! shouted the Kalona side.
Oh, go eat a badger, muttered the unicorn side.
All this time, Darkfire listened to them. This was the first time that they had argued in more than one-word insults, and it was interesting. Was this a new, unexplored development? Or did this happen all the time, and she just ignored it?
It was too interesting to pass up, so Darkfire tried to cover it up. She sniffed at the air slowly, wrinkling her nose and pretending to gag a little.
"You smell rotten," she said after a moment. "Not my kind of taste at all. Wouldn't be worth the effort." She turned to leave, her tail still flicking about behind her. Truthfully, Darkfire really didn't want to waste the effort on the mare; she could hear the injured scream of a bird not too far off, and she didn't need much more large chunks of meat to last her the day. The bird would suffice.
Suddenly, she turned back to the mare, jabbing her horn at her in rapid succession. There was a deep gash in her chest, a long slice down her side, and Darkfire even managed to slice up her legs while she was at it. She stopped after a moment, facing the mare dead on, her eyes serious and her horn dripping blood and hair.
"Tell no one of my mercy," she said darkly. "Or I will hunt you down, and I will kill you, no questions asked." With that, Darkfire turned and steadily made her way through the brush, listening intently to the Voices.
I am so sick of all of this s**t, the unicorn muttered.
Oh, shut up, just because she's not prancing in the flowers doesn't mean she's not part unicorn, said the Kalona dryly. I would've killed the damn mare.
Oh, go curl up and die.
You!
"Well, be glad neither of you control me completely," Darkfire murmured, slightly amused. They were really going at it, and she enjoyed every second of it. "Because then you'd both be dead."

Neva ignored the mare's question about her not running. It was none of the mare's business. She watched the mare turn to leave all while calling her rotten smelling and not worth the effort. The wind mare didn't mind at all at the fact that she was being called such things. Out of nowhere the mare Darkfire attacked her and Neva gasped in pain at the sudden quickness of the mare's horn against her flesh. She was about to fight back when the UniKalona spoke to her once more and left.

"What the heck was that?" Neva muttered as she watched the bloodied mare leave. But for now she was glad for having been spared. Her death wasn't enough to satisfy her hunger for her revenge on her family. Not yet anyways. The now injured wind mare turned and walked away leaving a trail of blood as she left.
