Tanz was getting restless. And Shiri didn’t know how to fix it. He tried to give him something to do at work, but he would just sigh and half heartedly color in the new books that he gave them. When Shiri tried to take him to the park Tanz would just stand there and hold his hand until they walked away.

Maybe he was depressed? Shiri thought to himself as they passed a hot dog vender.

It’s been a week since he has talked to any of his new friends, and his uncle is still staying at Otto’s, so Neil hasn’t been home. Monkey was just patched up the other day, so that wasn’t it.

Shiri sighed. He hated it when Tanz was sad. Tanz was the kind of kid that didn’t like to stay down, but this was something big for him to not be happy about music or dancing. They were walking down the street and there was street venders calling out goods and a few performers were juggling and playing some instruments.

Tanz didn’t even blink at them. He just kept his eyes on the ground and his hand clasped tightly with his fathers.

Taking a look around the street they just turned down, Shiri spotted a shop he has never been to. Maybe he could find something there that would cheer his kid up.

Tugging on Tanz hand to get his attention. Shiri only started to speak when they crossed the street and Tanz glanced up at him. “Let’s see what’s in here.” Opening the door to the unknown shop he hoped he could at least get his kid to smile.

Tynan wasn't sure about this. He didn't like bringing Kaydence to work, it didn't seem professional. Tynan was all about being professional. He thought about hiring one or two more part time workers but honestly he couldn't afford it on the store's profits alone (he could technically afford anything but he liked the bussiness being run without his personal money getting involved) and besides, what would he do then? He liked running the store. There wasn't enough paperwork to justify him working somewhere else.

What he needed to do was hire a housekeeper. Someone who was part maid, part cook and part babysiter. Someone who could really take care of Kaydence when he wasn't around. Tynan didn't want anyone who lived in but very close. A real job, but hiring someone like that took time. After all he really wanted to trust them before he put his darling Kaydence under their care.

So until then Kaydence would just have to be at the store with him. She was being good so far, though it was her first time so he didn't expect it to last. She wasn't above making michifef it was just always a mistake. For now she sat in the back with the flute book he bought her and played her scales dillgently. Tynan didn't tell her too but she did it anyway. She wanted to do it that way.

When the door opened Tynan turned and did a quick sigh of relief that it wasn't a girl. He just was horrible with girls, often better in this role but still horrible. For now he plastered on his best 'salesguy' smile and tilted his head a bit. If Kaydence was playing music it would have been a bit nicer but oh well.

"Hello, welcome to Tynan's Sorcery, I'm Tynan. Please look around and ask me if you have any questions." he recited dutifuly, just as dutifuly as Kaydence did her scales. A nessicary requirement to something they love doing.

The scales stopped though as Kaydence glanced up and noticed a boy. She gave a small smile but noticed a hint of melencholy around him. So she put the flute to her lips again. If there was one thing she could do was play something happy. She didn't need the book right now, she just closed her eyes and played.

Kaydence didn't know how she knew so many song, in fact she had no idea how to hum them without her flute but with her flute she could play a million songs or more. She only knew those songs with the flute in hand and didn't think to question such a thing. All she wanted was to brighten a young boy's day.

Shiri was glad to see someone smiling, even if they just wanted to sell him something. He smiled back hesitantly and contemplated introducing himself when blinked to himself. Did the young man just say-

“Sorcery?” Shiri flushed, that was no way to introduce himself. He was taught better then that. “Um-I’m Shiri and I was looking for something to cheer up my son.” Shiri was able to string the sentence together and glance down at his son, but Tanz wasn’t looking at the ground anymore.

Still holding onto his father’s hand, Tanz walked towards the girl who was playing. He kept his mouth shut and tried to stay as quiet as he could. There was only so much he could do when the urge came.

The urge to move, when notes hit him harder then the physical ever could.

Shiri smiled helplessly as he glanced from his kid to the little girl playing and back to the man -Tynan he said, “This is Tanz, and he really likes music.”

Tynan relaxed more when the man showed himself to be so perfectly awkward as well. Maybe it was misery loves company or maybe it's because he knew if he did mess up the man would understand but when Tynan met awkward people he could relax and not be awkward. So his smile was warm as he thought about what he had to cheer up a little boy. Tynan knew of 'happiness' spells but he didn't put much stock in them. Oh he stocked them but would never suggest it.

Magic was a tool, just like a hammer or TV. It wasn't suppose to be the answer to all your problems, just a way to fix some of them, maybe. So Tynan moved out from behind his desk as he tried to think of a spell that might be fun, and easy, for him to do that would have a funny result. Not that Tynan did much magic for amusment, so it made it a little harder.

Kaydence smiled into the flute as she kept on playing. She noticed that her playing the happy song got his attention. She sat a little straighter when he watched her but she didn't change anything else. Shy little Kaydence didn't know the word stage fright. Music was to be listened too, how could she be afraid of share it?

Tynan smiled though when...Shiri right? Well when he said Tranz like music. He went to the back of the store quickly before pulling out a small enchanted music box. Tynan didn't only sell things that would help with spells but things that had magic on them, and this was perfect. The music box played the music in your heart, meaning that it changed everytime you listened. The best part was that the insided changed to match the music.

"I think I have something your son would like then." Tynan admited as he walked back to the front of the store, presenting the almost plain wooden box with the picture of a piano on top. He offered it to the man. "This enchanted music box will play whatever your son wants most to hear, and the inside changes to suit the music." He said and thrusted it forward.

"Good price too. I've had it around forever." Tynan asured him.

Kaydence glanced up as her father tried to sell things. It was fasinating to watch. Even her shy father could sell thing, that made her happy and proud. She kept on playing her flute though, she could tell the boy, Tanz right? She could tell he liked it and there was nothing else Kay liked more than to play beautiful music to people who liked to listen.

When Tynan’s smile turned more genuine Shiri relaxed a bit, if only because he sensed a soul that had as much trouble interacting with people as he did. He might have come in on a whim, but Shiri knew that he would be visiting here more often in the near future. Especially if Tanz got the spark back in his eyes that seems to have gone in the past week.

As Tynan went to the back of the shop Tanz finally let go of his fathers hand, much to the delight of Shiri, that meant that Tanz was finally getting back to his normal self. Wandering towards the girl playing the flute Tanz’s eyes followed the movement of her fingers as she played each note.

Looking around Tanz confirmed that it would be alright to sit down on the floor. Right in front of the girl where she was playing. He shut his eyes and swayed to the music. Hypnotized like he always was when he really felt the piece he was listening to.

Shiri was amazed when Tynan came back and handed a box to him. He wanted to ask how it played music, but isn’t keeping magic a secret half the fun? Smiling at his son, who seemed to be enjoying the song the little girl was playing on her worn flute.

“I would like to take it then.” Shiri held the box to his chest as he rummaged through his back pocket for his wallet. As he asked how much it was Tanz finally opened his mouth for the first time in two days. Shiri almost dropped the music box.

“You have really pretty music.” Tanz told the little girl in front of him in a hushed whisper. He didn’t want to disturb her, but he wanted to make sure she knew that he really liked her music. After his confession Tanz went back to listening with a small on his face.

Kaydence smiled against the flute but didn't stop playing. She'd never stop in the middle of the song. She kept on playing for the boy, pleased that he liked her music. She loved playing for people, she loved knowing someone was listening to her music beyond her and she loved knowing that her music was being enjoyed.

That's why the small girl never got stage fright. She might if she was giving a speach or something similar but she could never be with music. She trusted her own skills that she herself didn't completely understand and she trusted the music. Bad music couldn't embaress her, then again Kaydence didn't believe in bad music, only music for the wrong crowds and she loved all music. It was so powerful. The boy came into the store looking sad and alone. Now he was smiling and slowly dancing along.

That was the power of music. It could heal, it could hurt, it could brighten up a day or help you though a down. there was a song for every mood, every day and she would find any of them and play them for your mood. That's what a musican was suppose to do.

Tynan smiled himself as he brought the box over to the cash register and made the sale. As he said it was very reasonably priced. He stashed away the money and looked to that man.

"Kaydence is very good and very friendly. I wouldn't worry, her and your son should get along just fine." he promised. He knew his daughter, she hadn't disagreed with anyone since she met her. She wasn't the fighting kind, in fact she was very motherly.

When the song finally ended Kaydence let the last note hang in the air for a moment before she let the flute fall into her lap and she smiled at the boy who loved music.

"Hi." she said softly, smiling back at him shyly. "I'm glad you liked the song. I wanted to make you happy." she explained simply, and she did. She made him happy.
