WWE SmackDown! Not To Air Next Friday
Date Added: September 02, 2005
Story By: Ben Johnson
According to several press releases issued Friday, all six networks (CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, WB and UPN) will air "Shelter From The Storm: A Concert For The Gulf Coast." The hourlong, commercial-free special will attempt to draw donations for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Unless WWE prepares a one-hour edition of Friday Night SmackDown, there is no way UPN could air the show on Friday night. Specific plans for the show are not yet known, however, as UPN''s press release made no mention of preemptions.

Interestingly enough, there are plenty of opportunities for UPN to air SmackDown. Because its fall schedule - other than the WWE show - does not kick off until 9/19, UPN can theoretically air the first "Friday" edition of SmackDown! on Thursday the 8th or Thursday the 15th, in addition to many other timeslots.

Expect a further update regarding this story shortly.

I vote that SmackDown should go to USA when WWE''s contract with UPN Expires.

I would love nothing more than Smackdown to move to the Usa network, because many states don't get UPN, including Montana specifically.

Damn.

And I feel sorry for you guys who don't have it. I'd die if I missed seeing Benoit wrestle.

No worries, Smackdown is still going to be shown on Friday. It will just be an abridged version. Which could be good actually, since they spend way too much time screwing around with hype and talking anyway. Now they'll have to get straight to the matches without delays. Could be a good thing...we'll have to wait and see.

I just hope SmackDown! doesn't get cancelled. I'm really looking forward to the new Friday edition.

Smackdown does need to leave UPN, man. It would be better if they moved to USA. That would be another cool thing. TNA going to Spike is cool!!
