  The sun was high in the sky and it's hot rays were beating down on anything and everything it could. Slowly and steadily the sun was setting, but not soon enough for Azzan. Azzan loved the day, truly he did, but dawn and dusk were his favorites. Azzan stood in silence in an open field, grazing on sweet grass as he waited for dawn to come. He was alone, or so he thought.

Layla could care less what time it was as long as she was away from her stupid annoying sister. Abeni was just sooo perfect and daddy loved her sooo much. It sickened her. Layla was much too old to be in the care of that uppity brown noser.
But no matter. She had wandered far from the forest, her "home," and found herself in an open clearing with only one darkening shape on it.

Azzan paused. He heard nothing, felt nothing, yet he knew something was different. He brought up his head from the ground, ripping up the few strands of grass with his movements. He searched his surroundings to see a mare not too far away. What was she doing here? She didn't seem like the type that liked to bee in the open planes. "Uh... Hello?" Azzan called as he swallowed his mouthful.

A voice? An unfamiliar voice. The suspiscion and uncertainty that would send the red flags flying for most only strengthened Layla's desire to talk to this stranger. Danger was her middle name.
"Hello there, stranger. What brings you to these parts?"

"I live in these parts," Azzan said. "Though the same question could be asked of you." Azzan had to admit, he did not travel far from his home often, yet this was the first time he had met someone else so close to it. He was curious. "Who are you?"

"I see. And yes, it could." She wasn't quite sure where exactly here was and could not come up with a rational reason to be there. She got closer to him, but not to close. She wanted to see him better. Right away, his colors amazed her and his concentrated stripes reminded Layla of herself. Her curiosity peaked, she suddenly became determined to know more about this mysterious stranger. "I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours."

It was a fair trade, his name for hers, but why wasn't she giving it willingly? He had no reason not to tell her, but her saying basically that she wouldn't tell until he did made him not want to. "Well then..." He smirked, not knowing exactly why he didn't just give his name. "I guess we both will never know who the other is."

She grinned. "It seems so, but in the world these days a girl can never be to careful now, can she? I mean what with al these skinwalkers popping up and such. Who knows who'll get the curse next. Before you know it, mister handsome-from-the-clearing becomes mister oh-my-god-don't-eat-me." Her story sounded good in her head, but she was unsure of how he'd respond to it. She hoped he'd take the bait.
