Next tuesday, I have an audition for an a-capella choir I have been wanting to join for two years - I just never had the courage to face the audition to apply earlier. So now, I am extremely nervous. Does anyone have any tips? I know I have to sing from score, clap a few rythms and reapeat tricky sequences of notes. And i can do those things slightly well if no-one is listening - but I nave no idea if I can do those things when I know people are listening to judge me, as I have only done an audition once before when I was 8 (which was, of course, not nearly as difficult as this one). And a while ago, they called to ask me if I could come fifteen minutes earlier, because there were so many sopranos. eek sweatdrop I know that even if i don't get in, I have an experience to take with me - but I do so want to get in! Do you have advice for me?

Relax! That's the biggest thing. If you know what song you'll be singing, practice it till you can sing it in your sleep so you won't be worried about that. And for the actual audition, just try your best to relax, focus on your breathing, and do the best you can.

have fun with what you are doing. dont worry what other people would think. learn and practice the material and just keep thinking positive.

Thanks for all the advice. It really helped me, especially the "focus on your breathing" part (allthough I did forget to do that halfway through) I got through the beginning alright, but then I had to sight read... I am normally not so good at this, but yesterday I was true rubbish. Then my nerves got the better of me. I blacked out while repeating notes - Which is usually what I am good at. Well, never mind.. I'll try again in a year or two. some of the members of the chorus told me they didn't get through the first time they auditioned. There is still hope! wink

Glad to hear your not giving up! Sometimes auditions suck, that's the life of a performer. But you know where you had problems, and you can work on them, and you'll be wonderful next time! smile

Like you said- even if you don't get in, you'll get the experience. If you want to decrease the anxiety, convince yourself that you really don't care about getting in. If you don't care what the judges think, you have nothing to be afraid of.

Hire a hypnotist to convince you it doesn't matter smile

I wish I had nerves to do that. I didn't audition for my choir.. even though it is audition choir. My teacher knew me slightly and knew my old choir teacher and just let me in when he heard I was good... Now I'm scared because I am expected to try for solos and do solo and ensamble and all kinds of stuff that I litterally can't do.
