Xerris plodded along at an even pace, pausing every so often to tear up a mouthful of grass here or nibble on a flower there. She had been so excited that, after getting her mother's approval, she'd run off without thinking and only now did it finally occur to her that she hadn't the faintest idea where to begin looking for her father.
But that was alright, she supposed. At least it gave her time to think. She couldn't very well spill the beans about her interest in magic. It didn't make sense to upset him over something that was, at best, very unlikely to happen. So she'd have to be careful about what she said.
"How should I start the conversation?" Xerris wondered aloud, edgily flexing her wings. "I'd feel silly just marching up to him and saying "I'm going to study to be a doctor!' But he's an important member of the herd; I wouldn't want to keep him from his duties by tiptoeing around the subject." Exasperated with her own train of thought, Xerris heaved a dramatic sigh and let her head droop.

It was mid-afternoon for Xla, and he'd just finished talking to the queen about how their rogue friend may have been doing. Niether one knew, and with Mordre gone, it was good Dahak was around, because it seemed the herd needed the magic wielders around after all. Perhaps it made them feel safe; Xla'Lanan didn't know. They were all a bunch of prudes.
Sighing lightly, he ventured down from one of the Queen's more public area, this time thankful for the lack of people out today. It was a nice day and he got to wonderfing where they all were, but he supposed it wasn't that important. There were a lot of things that weren't that way that actually were, though. Many of the smarter Nequus could deduce that and pick, and go on with their lives. Zara seemed to, but there were times when she held her tongue when Xla'Lanan thought it best to speak, and then there was the opposite.
He was just about to change his route to flying when he saw the unmistakeable blue not to far away on the cliffs. It could only have been three people: Undine, Zara, or Xerris, and she was far too small to have been the former two. Frowning, he wondering what she was doing this far out without any accompanyment. She was getting older, so he didn't mind as much as he once would have, but it was still a trifle unnerving.
"Xerris!" he called from across the small divide, hearing his echo bounce back to him from some of the crevices of their home. "What are you doing this far out?"

Xerris jumped at the sound of her name and looked around quickly, searching for its source. At first she didn't realize it was her father calling to her; his voice was so distorted by its own echoes off the mountains. But her baby blues fell on the stallion's form and she immediately recognized his bright coloring.
"Trie!" she shouted back in greeting, lifting a wing to show she'd heard him. "I apologize! I was out looking for you!" she added then took a running leap and managed to catch a strong air current. Lifting into the air a little unsteadily, she gained her balance and, with powerful wing beats she gained some more altitude before she locked her wings and glided toward him.
With a graceful swoop, she plummeted then gently alighted in front of him and grinned, breathing a trifle heavily. That had been her first official flight.
