The native home stretched out beneath his hooves, rather before his hooves as a large alabaster and ebony stallion stood upon a tall hill. The wind blew through his mane making it cascade down his neck and softly ripple like water in a pond. It had been a long time since he had seen the homes of the tanned ones, even longer since the day that they cast away his former life for a new. Journeys he had taken and things he had seen, but something all ways called him back here. The paths he had taken always seemed to lead him back... Home.

Shaking his head a little, the large stallion stepped off to the side and cantered down the hill's far side. He sought out the herd, the one he had come to know as his own, for so long he hadn't really seen any who lived within it. Coming to the edge of the grazing lands, his dark eyes searched the herd for someone. He wondered, was she still here? Or had something happened while he was gone? He didn't want to hear of it as he stomped a hoof and stepped around the edge, he still didn't tread into the grazing lands. He was gone so long that it almost seemed unknown to him.

"Shilah," He muttered, his eyes ever watching, ever searching...

The dun painted mare mumbled slightly, though to human ears, it must have merely sounded like muffled whinnies. She felt a shove on her back and she finially woke up, her head springing up off the grass , matted down to the earth from sleeping there all night. Kai Ayashe was still speaking, and Shilah concentrated trying to tune in, though she was still half asleep.

"...And we've got to go down to help them, across the mountains. Look, I know you just pulled an all-nighter, but do me a favor, and keep an ear out for the horses we're leaving behind. Be safe, Shilah."

She snuffled for the carrot she knew Ayashe must've had outstretched for her, which she always bribed the mare with when she went away. Shilah wasn't sure how her human knew that she would do what she asked, much less understand what she was saying. But that was the thing with the Native people. They just had faith in nature. Shilah sighed content, but sleepy as she ate her carrot, then got herself back on her hooves. She kicked off quickly, dashing through the village's center to wake herself up, quickly turning a right where she heard most of the horses grazing. It was almost immediately that a certain scent wriggled it's way to her nose and her memory, a small gasp and one whispered word following. "Apollo."

Apollo had stopped on the far side of the grazing herd, after moving steadily closer was he looked for her, and didn't find her amongst them. Shame, maybe she was elsewhere? That had to be it, looking away from the herd and soon to head off into another direction, his ears swiveled back toward the sounds of thundering hooves, someone else was coming? Head snapping back in the direction away from whence he was heading and toward where the sounds were coming from.

His head raised even higher once he saw what was coming their way. Once the figure had come closer, he knew that figure. He knew those colors, it didn't take him long to canter around the group and close the distance. It was her and she was alright. He had worried..., a lot. The gentle Giant as most called him slowed and the ground beneath his large hooves ceased to shake with every pounding step.

"Shilah." he said again coming closer, stopping just a few feet away from the mare, "I had missed you..."

Oh no, oh no, oh no... she thought as she slowed, though another seemed to pick up her pace as he thundered towards her. Apollo's scent grew stronger, and only his hooves would make such a thunderous sound.... Should I tell him I missed him... or just tell him to leave me alone? she fretted uneasily as he neared, though she forgot what she'd been worried about, and her own name as well, as soon as she heard her name come from his muzzle.

"Really?" she asked in a near whisper, though she quickly recomposed herself, knitting her eyebrows together in their usual glare. "Why? I was an inconvience to you getting back to your old life. How's getting back there going?" she asked as she walked past him, her shoulder brushing his as she went by. It gave her shivers for a moment, but she didn't think he'd turned around just yet, if at all, so she hoped he hadn't seen it. This is so ridiculous, she thought stubbornly, ignoring her heart, beating quickly not from her gallop but from his proximity. I mean, I try to show him that this world isn't so bad, he gets in a 'manly' version of a hissy fit, and then decides that it'd be a good idea to come back to say he missed me? Likely story, anyways. He probably just misses the stash of corn they give us...

Well that was a stab to the soul as he stood frozen as if someone had poured ice water into his veins and tore his heart from his very chest. Eyes fixed to where she had once stood, he had forgotten how he had acted back when he first came to be within these lands. An arrogant fool he had been, but only days of losing something precious to him he would think that anyone would have acted the same. Shaking his head he didn't turn to watch her walk past him, he just remained watching the land before him.

"I was stupid back then, young and stupid. I‘m sure you would have felt the same if you had been removed from all that was familiar and well loved.” His head tilted to one side knocking the ebony bangs away from his eyes. “But I can only hope that you don’t have to experience that. I had missed you while away trying to learn for myself that the freedom isn‘t that bad, I was only hoping that maybe I was missed… Too.”

At this he turned around and moved to head away from Shilah, he felt a tenseness in the air around the small space between them. He thought that maybe learning about his new home would help him to come and love it. That he learned well and loved the new found freedom, but it wasn‘t that nice without the first that put up with his frantic times. Sure losing his tack and stuff was hard, but he had become used to the unburdened life and it seemed that he had come to burden another…

“I‘m sorry Shilah, I will leave you alone, I‘m sure after what happened when I first came here still lies heavily upon your mind hearing my voice again. From all that I had learned and endured to become more accepted within these new found ways, I still haven‘t learned enough.” Sadness crept into his voice as he walked away from her, “I will leave your shadow unburdened by mine. See you around… Sometime again.”

Shilah shifted uneasily, upon hearing this. He feels remorse... that's got to be a first. Not just for him but most everyone. Shilah shook out her mane, trying to think things through before she lost Apollo when all she wanted to do was hold onto him until her heart stopped aching for him.. which would never concievably happen. she turned her face towards his retreating form. "Why do you want to leave me alone?" she asked, a smile in her voice.

For a moment, all she could feel was the tense silence that hung in the air around and between them like static, and then it seemed to be gone. She showed a soft smile and walked slowly in his direction. "The truth is that I've missed you myself. Of course, I did have plenty of distractions, what with my humans bestowing me with various tasks, but none of it preoccupied me long enough to stop me from thinking of you, even if it was only in the dark of night before dreams took me."

Shilah had always spoke the truth, and she couldn't possibly stop that trend now, even with so much at stake... even when she would have much rather kept her mouth shut. He'd already said it, so she shouldn't be this nervous, but she'd never felt the need to spill her heart on the floor, never wanted to risk having to pick up the pieces of her own heart should the stallion not return her feelings. If it had been anyone else... if she could have changed her feelings, would she? Now that things had come so far, she rather doubted it. It had never been hard to keep herself from feeling with anyone other than her human, but while Apollo was away, she felt herself falling, and falling fast.

She reached him, looking up into his face though her pale gray-blue eyes saw nothing. "I never wanted you to leave before, Apollo. I would have followed you to the ends of the earth if this village didn't need me." She stopped for a moment, shook out her mane and smiled, finially turning her face up towards his again. "I know that before you wouldn't have wanted me to come with you, and you wouldn't have wanted to stay here, but I'm hoping that has changed. I mean, I know you haven't yet said that you'd like to stick around this time... but you did say you loved me."
