I was in the 6th grade when I bought my first How to Draw Manga book. It really helped improve my skills for faces and bodies. I also have some about animals and cars. But, you do need to be careful on which book or series you buy since some of them are useless.

I want to give you a sample of her work just so you know why I didn't want her to take out this book. I SWEAR ON MY HONOR that this is a picture she drew in the summer before freshman year of highschool. (She wrote my name up top, so I had to edit it out by cropping; that's what the little curve-ting is above the head, right next to it, on the left. I also removed her name, which is why the black squiggly line is there to the bottom-right). HERE

I told a friend of mine to go into anime since it seemed more her style. We went into the library and found the HIDEOUS book that had horrible drawings (I swear, they looked like rectangles with circular faces and flat arms. No body part was drawn correctly, not even the feet). I told er not to take it out since it was horrible, but she took it out anyway, and she still can't draw. I actually think she draws worse.

I'd warn you what the name of the book is, but I've since moved from the middle school to the high school, and the library in the high school has better librarians, I guess.

But good books are practically everywhere. You just have to look through them and determine if it's quality art with good instructions.

Now, to humiliate myself because I feel I've humiliated her. HERE is a quick sketch of another one of my accounts to test my coloring abilities on this computer. Tragic, isn't it? whee I smile when I look at that picture. Then I cry remembering that I drew it... crying
