i'm trapped in a burning building

I've been eyeballing a Traben John Moyer Signature Havoc 5S lately, and I was wondering if anyone has any experiences with Traben instruments.

I've always played Fender, so I'm used to quality, even if its predictable and somewhat boring quality. The big bridges on the Traben basses attracted me originally, and their claims of bigger tone.

Anyways. Before I drop $950 on a Havoc, I stopped by Guitar Center to check out some Traben's and see for myself. The only one they had was a 5S Array, which at $450 is their budget-bass.

It sounded awful, no life in the notes at all. I could feel the seams in the wood and everything just seemed really cheap fitting.

I ran a couple other basses thru the same Ampeg half stack and they all sounded fine, except this thing. I know its had a hard life being a demo instrument, but the craftsmanship was inexcusable.

Anyways. Anybody have any experiences with Traben? I'm wondering if I just got a bad bass. I know on the cheaper models of any brand you gotta pay attention to the quality. Even Fender has knocked out a few Squier lemons in their time.

I recorded some tracks with one once.. an original... i believe Gibson bought them out a few years back and the quality just isn't the same... this is just what the producer told me when i recorded with his... the one i used was very warm tho... i liked it but it wasnt my fav...

Don't think Gibson owns them. But they're nice basses for the price. And have a great meaty sound to them.

I never really cared for them. The big bridge thing doesn't seem like it would make a huge difference other then adding an astetic quality. From what I can tell they are similar to most other basses in the price range. Though I think that with most brands, you can bet that the cheapest is going to be bad no matter what.
I've got a thing for shecter personally, they have some really nice basses at really nice prices.
Traben just has never really been any thing I cared about though thoug. I would say if you are willing to drop 950 on a bass look around more just in case. (they seem like they would be a fender with a custom bridge to me personally similar wood and such.)

I love my Fender, it sounds fabulous and feels perfect to me.

I just bought the bass I fell for on sight, and it turned out to be a solid instrument.

Only issue is, I hate how many people have Fender basses. My kid sister plays a Strat and that bugs me too. I gotta be an oddball.

Too bad I can't afford a PRS bass..

Look on ebay, there are some good deals. I just got a stiletto elit and a behringer V amp for 400 bucks. Oh and a hard shell case as well. Speaking of schecter they are prity similar to fender in the neck area, and not a lot of people play them, from what I've hurd most of the stilettos are prity good for just about any thing.
I'm sure if you are down with Traben though you can find one on ebay for a good price.
Ibanez makes some nice stuff just go to the local music store and mess around with some things that catch your eye. Fender basses in my opion are choosen because it is safe, and trusted. I personally think that fender basses are kind of lacking in features, and some in sound as well, but my brother has a fender american standard jazz and it is very nice.

The neck is what makes me love the Jazz so much. That's also why I'm worried about getting a 5-string, I need that extra low end but the necks are fatter... I have big hands but the slim neck is more comfortable.

You could all ways go with a BEAD tuning if you need extra low end, if you are looking for a new bass, go for BEAD on that one, and keep your other in standard maybe... I had a five stringe for a while, I found that the low B was too much, and usually kept it in tenor EADGC, but I've got my 4 string now that's better for me personally.

Just because a lot of people have the same brand bass as you, it shouldn't make you like it less. Never be ashamed of any of your instruments. Anyone worth acknowledging will see what you're playing and beyond what you're playing it on, punk bitches that think good gear = talent aren't worth my time. Check this out (posted it before but it's worth posting again): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy3V2Tl4g3s&feature=related, a $700 bass through a $200 amp, and do you think anyone cares what he's playing it on when they hear it? That's not to say there aren't bad instruments, God knows I've seen plenty, but anyone that knows even the bare minimum about setting up an instrument can make a bad one playable. Sorry, kind of went off on a tangent there, but I love all my instruments, from my Squier to my Ibanez (my Fender too), they all serve a different purpose.

But on the other end of the spectrum, I'm also a huge believer in the you should get what you pay for and "bang for your buck" philosophies, and PRS basses just aren't up to snuff compared to other basses in the price range, of course they're very decent instruments (for $5,000 they ******** better be), but somehow their amazing guitar work didn't translate over to their basses.
